Shameless post for traffic!

DH has announced he's taking me, for my birthday, to a show, a meal at a fancy Michelin star restaurant and drinks at a 'secret bar' in London.

This is most definitely not a normal night out for us and very much a big luxurious treat that he's saved for.

Wtf do I wear for such a night out? I haven't dressed up for anything for years....Help!

Do I do very dressy, a bit dressy, smart casual, casual

First world problems I know, but it's such a one-off I want to feel good as well as fit in with the crowd...

Sorry, title was meant to read AIBU to ask you to tell me what to wear

That’s so lovely!! I’d probably go medium dressy - if it was me going tomorrow, given the warm weather, probably a summery dress and heels.

pinacollama · 20/04/2019 19:03

Maybe smart cas...sorry very unhelpful

bridgetreilly · 20/04/2019 19:06

I would go somewhere between smart casual and a bit dressy. You'll want to be comfortable, because dinner, a show and drinks is a long time to be wearing shoes that pinch your feet or a waistband that doesn't let you take a deep breath. But it is a special evening, so wear something a bit nicer than normal.

I would pick a nice dress and a sparkly cardigan and your poshest jewellery.

likeridingabike · 20/04/2019 19:07

I'd always rather be slightly overdressed than underdressed but agree comfortable is the way to go, especially shoes.

pointythings · 20/04/2019 19:27

I'd go medium dressy but like PP suggested make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes. Enjoy yourself and have fun glamming up!

My husband just took me to a 2 Michelin star restaurant for my birthday. I wore a jumpsuit and heels but there was a big mix of styles, the couple at the next table were wearing tunic dress/jeans & shirt. But it was in a hotel so maybe more casual than a stand alone restaurant. Just wear something comfortable that you feel good in, and enjoy!

StoneofDestiny · 20/04/2019 19:49

Nice shift dress with spare flat shoes in bag if heels become a pain.

I love jumpsuits but I look hideous in them. I'm too short at 5ft2. I look like a toddler in a romper suit.

But yes to the advice re. spare flat shoes in my bag. Good idea for walks between each venue.

I am 5ft - I had to wear heels or I'd trip over it. I hope I looked glam and not like a geriatric toddler 😂

It was one from &Otherstories, I'll see if I can find a link

TooMinty · 20/04/2019 20:26

Hmm, not sure if that link worked...

BlueSuffragette · 20/04/2019 20:47

Yes agree with others, nice dress and heels with flats in your bag. Gave a fab time Wine

NurseButtercup · 20/04/2019 20:56

You know there aren't any rules anymore, when going out (unless it's stated on the invite etc). But if I was in your shoes, I'd see this is the opportunity to buy that outfit you've seen, but held yourself back because you couldn't think of an occasion when you'd wear it.

I hope you have a lovely time Flowers

ImOnlyHumanAfterall · 21/04/2019 08:40

Toominty thanks, the link worked. Beautiful jumpsuit, really wish I could wear something like that, but I absolutely know, especially with the wide sleeves, that it would look ridiculous on me.

Will look into getting a nice dress. God I've not wore a dress since my wedding day 5 yrs ago!

Order a few things to try on and send back what you don't like - I agree with PP that it's a good opportunity to treat yourself to an outfit you've been coveting 😊

I am your height too. Wedges are our friends.
