I'm fairly sure my engagement ring has been delivered in the post today... it's an unbranded box but it's got a postal label on it with "antique diamond ring" and some value details on it.

DP was doing the gardening so I signed for it and have put it in the hallway as I normally would. He doesn't seem to have noticed the label. Do I say something?

(I'm fairly sure it's for me Grin)

A parcel has a label saying antique diamond ring? Really?

Good point. It may as well have had 'steal me' written on it 🤔
A customs label? Hmmm 🧐

Well I wasn't going to placemark but as doing so causes such a ruckus... 😇

bebeboeuf · 16/05/2019 09:38

17 pages and still no update

Thinking the worst here now

sparkleandsunshine · 16/05/2019 10:41

Kind of wondering if the OP is my sister in law 😂 on holiday at exactly the same time and we’re all waiting to see if they get engaged 😂

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 16/05/2019 10:43

Oh I missed the rudeness, what a shame. Hey ho, 'spect I'll live! Grin

I've had this on things shipped from American written on a green customs label where they have to summarise what is in it.

I hadn't picked up on this before but yes I suppose it does seem odd to have this because why would someone buy an antique diamond ring for a proposal from abroad. You'd want to see it and handle it first I'd imagine plus its a big risk to take for a large financial purchase - if you hadn't seen it could be a fake and unless it was sent by secure courier could be nicked on route.

Clumzy · 16/05/2019 12:35

Puppet,

I’ve bought jewellery from America without seeing it before. The reality is that their diamond prices are just much better than the uk! I had a ruby and diamond ring made for about £1500 and then a couple of hundred in customs fees. Of course I had it independently checked and valued for insurance purposes in this country as soon as it arrived and it’s worth over £5000 according to them. I found the jeweller through Etsy. There’s a ton of USA companies that will ship very high end jewellery to the uk

bellajay · 16/05/2019 12:39

@bebeboeuf the worst? What’s that then? Hmm OP has only been on holiday for 48 hours

bebeboeuf · 16/05/2019 13:01

Bellajay that she was mistaken surely Hmm

poundoflard · 16/05/2019 17:51

Well the OPs first post was 20th April and the last was 14th may... so not a prolific poster, expect an update in a couple of weeks after her return.........

TanMateix · 16/05/2019 18:04

She came back to the thread when the holiday was starting, as at the beginning of the thread back in April she said she was expecting her partner to propose during the holiday.

I would say we probably will hear back when she returns in one or two weeks time, especially if she is staying at one of those places were the internet access is abysmal or ridiculously expensive.

Sorry all, I put my phone down for the holiday!

Made an exception to come back and say that I am now engaged GrinGrinGrin

He asked me at Lake Garda today. The ring is a bit too big, but beautiful, and we got a bottle of free champagne from our restaurant. We are now going out to celebrate!

Here's a dodgy tram light photo; better one to follow!

Awww lovely! Congratulations! Did you tell him you saw the parcel?

MulticolourMophead · 17/05/2019 20:25

Congratulations! DD and I think your ring is lovely.

MrsRonaldWeasley · 17/05/2019 20:25

😍

DaisiesAndCompasses · 17/05/2019 20:27

No; I haven't told him. He's so proud that he kept it concealed.

It's a ring we saw shopping on a previous holiday, and I loved. He arranged for the little shop to send it to him. They labelled the customs label pretty honestly! No idea about theft risks etc.

Sorry for causing such stress Blush I had no idea people would start arguing.

I couldn't be more happy this evening. Or more scared about it falling off my finger!
