To want more than 10% off a pair of shoes that have been delivered preworn

I am attaching a photo for opinion.

I bought these sandals online when the store had a 20% off code a few weeks ago. It was a good deal as these sandals aren’t often reduced. Even with 20% off they aren’t cheap sandals (about £60 before code so £48 ish with code). When they arrived there was a fault with them as the stitching was coming away at the edge so I returned for another pair that weren’t faulty. No probs so far.

The next pair have arrived today and they have been obviously worn by someone before. I looked on their website and they are now out of stock in my size. I’ve contacted them and said I’d like a new pair and they have confirmed they are out of stock and have offered me a 10% discount. This would equate to about £5 off.

AIBU to expect more off a pair of used shoes? I really want the shoes and feel that I can grudgingly put up with the fact they have already been worn but would expect more than £5 off for this as surely they can’t resell them at anything near that price to anyone else (unless they keep sending it out to people in the hope someone accepts them).

How much would you expect would be a reasonable discount in this case?

Shock. How much would you pay on eBay? I’ll bet it wouldn’t be 5 quid off the full retail price...

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 20/04/2019 16:23

I would expect a 100% refund, no quibbles

Reastie · 20/04/2019 16:26

100%? Would you really expect to get that? Wow.

I’m glad initial thoughts are that ianbu

Yes, I’d expect a full refund too. Those one’s should not have been put back out for resale.

CheesePuffTheMagicDragon · 20/04/2019 16:28

I'd expect a hefty discount or a refund to be honest! Where did you get them? I got my salties from office and both times their customer service has been fine
I hope you get the outcome you want, I've just bought the same pair for myself! I already have them in tan and brown, I love them Blush the yellow ones look so good with a tan! I want white next...

JacquesHammer · 20/04/2019 16:29

I wouldn’t expect a full refund and be able to keep them.

I would expect a sizeable discount though.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 20/04/2019 16:32

When they say refund, they mean you send them back and get your money back. Not keep the money and the shoes.

Tbh, they look like they've been heavily tried on more than worn out and about.

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 20/04/2019 16:34

If op returns them they’ll be (or certainly should be) dumped anyway, as they’re not in saleable condition. I wouldn’t hold out too much hope, but a full refund wouldn’t be too out of order for the inconvenience

JacquesHammer · 20/04/2019 16:34

Well that’s what I would have assumed. Except the OP was asking about a discount. Hence I wondered if that is what was being suggested.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 20/04/2019 16:36

Oh I'm agreeing with you, but the OP sounded like she thought they meant get full money back and keep them

19lottie82 · 20/04/2019 16:38

I would expect at least 1/3

Reastie · 20/04/2019 16:39

I was only asking after a discount because they were out of stock in my size now. If they were in stock then I’d be asking for a replacement. My preference is for a replacement but since that can’t be done and I really want the shoes I thought I would consider having them for a reduced price given they have been worn and unsalable in their current state. I never expected them to refund me and let me keep them.

Hmm, I’m going to have to word my reply for if they can offer me more money off or else I will return.

I would say along the lines of “in view of the condition I would be grateful for a further discount of x” rather than say “or I will return them” as they will most likely say to do just that.

MidnightBlue00 · 20/04/2019 16:51

I own shops.all be it childrens wear.
Full refund, accept no less. You paid for new shoes, you should recieve new shoes.

Reastie · 20/04/2019 18:01

Have sent them an email, fx for a positive response. I’m not wanting to take the mickey and get something for nothing but I resent paying that much for used shoes!

5% is ridiculous!
I got some new trainers recently that came with a note to try them on indoors and carpeted area as if there are any marks they might not accept returns if one is needed.

That is not a new shoe and you should not be paying a new price for it!

Squiffy01 · 20/04/2019 18:17

Sorry misread. Would still want more than 10% off!

hopeishere · 20/04/2019 21:15

What does the inside sole looks like? The bit your foot actually touches.

Reastie · 21/04/2019 08:16

So they have got back to me. 10% is apparently the maximum they are able to offer Hmm . Gah, I really want the sandals but £43 for preworn shoes? They have offered me 10% off a future order but I don’t usually shop there so that’s useless.

Hope the other side isn’t obviously grubby but I have 4 pairs of these in other colours and can confirm you could wear them a fair bit before it looks worn on the other side. 1 pair I’ve worn at least a dozen times but look new on the inside sole.

I’d be asking for 50% off. That’s so gross they’ve been worn!! And worn out and about, not just on carpet.

Dieu · 21/04/2019 08:20

To me they look scuffed, but not worn outside. The stitching is immaculate Confused If you like them, just keep them.

GuineaPiglet345 · 21/04/2019 08:40

I wouldn’t pay nearly £50 for second hand shoes, I’d rather send them back and pay full price from somewhere else.

hopeishere · 21/04/2019 08:43

Can you wipe that off with a cloth? Or are they actually scuffed?

As an aside are they comfortable??

Saz41 · 21/04/2019 08:46

Have you contacted their head office?

Reastie · 21/04/2019 09:14

Hope if I wiped it with a cloth there would still be scuffs.

Saz I contacted customer services. I’m not sure how to contact head office. I have found a postal address for them so assume I’d need to post a letter? Can’t find email contact other than customer services anywhere.
