To want more than 10% off a pair of shoes that have been delivered preworn

I am attaching a photo for opinion.

I bought these sandals online when the store had a 20% off code a few weeks ago. It was a good deal as these sandals aren’t often reduced. Even with 20% off they aren’t cheap sandals (about £60 before code so £48 ish with code). When they arrived there was a fault with them as the stitching was coming away at the edge so I returned for another pair that weren’t faulty. No probs so far.

The next pair have arrived today and they have been obviously worn by someone before. I looked on their website and they are now out of stock in my size. I’ve contacted them and said I’d like a new pair and they have confirmed they are out of stock and have offered me a 10% discount. This would equate to about £5 off.

AIBU to expect more off a pair of used shoes? I really want the shoes and feel that I can grudgingly put up with the fact they have already been worn but would expect more than £5 off for this as surely they can’t resell them at anything near that price to anyone else (unless they keep sending it out to people in the hope someone accepts them).

How much would you expect would be a reasonable discount in this case?

Maybe the discount is low because the are looking at the original RRP cost? Imo they look well tried on as opposed to worn outside. Is there wear to the bottom of the heel?
They can probably sell them for £40 ish as seconds like the trainer brands do.

Saltwater yellow patent and Mustard are in stock on their website. In size 8.

Send back and get them to send you a new pair.

WhiteDust · 21/04/2019 14:45

Sorry... Dod you say you bought them from another shop?

SumAndSubstance · 21/04/2019 16:47

To be honest, OP, while I completely get where you're coming from, I would ask yourself if you would have bought them if the shop had said "30% off because of scuff marks on the sole. Otherwise, as new". If you would have, keep them. I would!

I don't think the shop is obliged to give you any discount at all, as long as they are prepared to refund them, which I think they are.

Thecoffee · 21/04/2019 16:55

I don't see why people are suggesting public shaming over this. Either keep the discounted shoes or return them for a refund. The shop has made their position very clear.

weshallneversurrender · 21/04/2019 16:56

I work in customer services, and honestly we are also capped at 10% partial refunds for any damaged stock. Beyond that its a case of returning them for a full refund. They will also consider the discount that you have already received. Sorry OP, but even if you went on Twitter or Facebook this would be the case for us. If you are that unhappy with the quality of the shoe that you have received, then definitely return them and await the next discount sale to try again.

Oblomov19 · 21/04/2019 17:13

Do not accept this. 10% is the maximum they can give? Rubbish!

TwistedBiscuit · 21/04/2019 17:22

I’d return them then. I see what a PP is saying about whether you’d have been prepared to pay that price for a pair of scuffed shoes if you knew in advance, but given that the agreement was for a pair of new shoes I think it’s beside the point really. They’ve done an (unintentional, obviously) bait & switch.

Reastie · 23/04/2019 10:11

I’ve written a letter to the head office but I can’t find their address anywhere! Can anyone help? It’s office shoes and I’ve found one head office address at old street, London, and another at Barbican, London. Not sure which one, if either, are correct.

WhiteDust · 23/04/2019 10:41

Tweet them. You WILL get a reply almost straight away. Companies hate tweets complaining.

outpinked · 23/04/2019 10:50

If I’m honest, I wouldn’t be overly fussed provided the insole and exterior of the shoes are fine. The sole is going to look like that after you’ve worn them outside yourself. They have offered an extra 10% discount and you bought them with a 20% discount so really, you’ve got shoes that may have been worn once for 30% less than they usually cost. Pretty good deal if you ask me...

Reastie · 23/04/2019 11:33

I have tweeted, they want to know what the issue is about to give me the right address but if I say it’s a customer services issue surely they’ll just give me customer services address which won’t get me anywhere so not sure how to respond.

FreshAprilStart · 23/04/2019 14:27

Issue is you've been sent a used pair of shoes and you've been hugely inconvenienced and all the emphasis has been put on you to chase and ask for refund and for them to collect. Post a photo! Say you want a new pair or full refund and if they want them they can collect them.

Seriously, be more assertive

Reastie · 23/04/2019 14:48

Ok, I have tweeted with photo. Never done this kind of thing before and don’t really do Twitter.

OP posts:
BarrenFieldofFucks · 23/04/2019 14:49

Honestly? They've told you what they can do. You can return or keep. They only look like someone who has walked around in the shop a few times to me.

FreshAprilStart · 23/04/2019 15:47

I disagree @BarrenFieldofFucks

Op bought new shoes, they sent shoes that someone has clearly worn and not to n a resale able condition. That's outrageous!

Like ordering a meal in a restaurant and getting one someone else has had a nibble off.

Just shouldn't happen.

Full refund, an apology and keep the shoes. 10% offer is ridiculous for the hassle and inappropriate sale of goods.

It isn't eBay where you state only worn a few times. It's a high street retailer!

FreshAprilStart · 23/04/2019 15:57

Gosh, I'm over invested in this now. My final comment.

ASOS have just emailed out a change to their returns policy based on cases like this. Where people over order then wear stuff and return them used for a full refund.

Shoddy for the business but that shouldn't be passed onto a genuine buyer to suck up the consequences.

With that, I'm out and off to get a life Wink

Reastie · 23/04/2019 16:02

Ok, they have got back in touch, they can’t do more than 10% and have offered to arrange collection, I’m going to go with that. At least I won’t have to trek to a collect plus place to post it back to them.

OP posts:
Reastie · 23/04/2019 16:03

Tbh the cost of them having to collect and then I don’t know what they’ll do with the shoes as they can’t sell them I’m not sure why they aren’t offering more off, surely it would make sense.

OP posts:
BarrenFieldofFucks · 23/04/2019 16:19

That's fine, I disagree. A full refund is always available any time someone doesn't think something is up to scratch, the fact the OP still wants them isn't their problem really. They clearly can't look all that worn if the OP still wants them!

fancynancyclancy · 23/04/2019 17:32

Won’t they just sell them on their offcuts site?

Reastie · 23/04/2019 18:14

Offcuts site?

OP posts:
fancynancyclancy · 23/04/2019 18:15

where they sell they tried on, faded display shoes etc for a discount hence why they have a discount cap
