To ask for help identifying this coin?

I don't recognise the script so not sure what to Google. Anyone recognise it?

It's a language from the Indian subcontinent, sorry, I can't verify which one.

The script looks like indian but the crest looks like the british seal so possible dated from time when india was under britsh rule

Gwalior is the state, 1/4 anna is the coin. Much older than 1974!

The site I found seems to be saying that a coin showing 1974 would actually be 1917 - any idea what that would be about?

Just worked out that it's the Vikram Savat calendar, so off to Google that some more. Thank you everyone for your help! I love this place - my dad's been puzzling over this coin for ages, but you have it sussed in 20 minutes!
