Taking a 12 day old baby on holiday ?

Desperate to get away as feel like I've been exhausted all third trimester, have a 8 year old daughter who would love a holiday, hubby coming along too. I've found an amazing deal in Sardinia, 7 nights at half term, full board and kids club for the 9 year old and golf for hubby. Me and baby could be on the beach all day chilling ! It's a 3.5 hour flight, shall I book it or is baby too young ? What would you do ?!?

Sorry wrong post

fhc27 · 21/04/2019 22:10

C section pain and risk of infection aside, I wouldn’t suggest taking a baby on a plane, in a pool or to the beach until they’d had their 8 week jabs.

Antonin · 21/04/2019 22:15

I hope you find somewhere for a relaxing break after the birth OP and thoroughly enjoy your trip in October

kazwelch · 21/04/2019 22:18

I wouldn't as it would be too soon after the birth. I would book it later if you can.

collectingcpd · 21/04/2019 22:20

HRTWT......but if you are taking about the Mark Warner resort don’t go. The accommodation is old and tired and the food is absolutely hideous. It won’t be a holiday, it will be an expensive trip.

daffydowndilys · 21/04/2019 22:30

Surely it's not a great idea to take such a young baby to a baking hot beach?

3luckystars · 21/04/2019 22:32

Ryanair are not 'prone to delays'

They have the newest planes and are always playing trumpets things for being early or on time.

They are very efficient. I accept they are a bus in the sky and are not luxury, but I just wanted to post in their defence.

That's all.

But please post back after having the baby so we can laugh at how crackers you were, in a friendly way. (I thought I was going to write a book and also invent something on maternity leave)

Best wishes to you and again I am glad you changed your mind!

My poor sister in law had sepsis after her planned csection and was very poorly for over a week. I can’t imagine taking a baby that young abroad without the safety net of being near doctors etc

HyacynthBucket · 21/04/2019 22:37

Am sure I read somewhere that very young babies should not go in aircraft - something to do with the air pressure affecting them. Its tempting, but I would wait until your baby is quite a bit older.

3luckystars · 21/04/2019 22:39

Tempting is a melted Easter egg.

Not this.

Jencottage · 21/04/2019 23:04

We aren't going anymore ! Well we hopefully will be, but in October now. It's the forte village, not mark warner. Still suffering from cabin fever and itchy (swollen) feet but am treating this now with excessive amounts of chocolate, garden air and sleep. DS soon here and I'll be a bit more mobile soon.. Really appreciated the collective mumsnet reality check regarding possible health issues. First (emergency) CS went so smoothly and DD was an amazing baby, but who knows what will happen this time round. Thanks everyone 🙏🏻 !!

Yes / why not? Sounds lovely. People in Sardinia have babies too.

TigerTooth · 21/04/2019 23:16

Oops /

Courts1988 · 21/04/2019 23:18

The baby won’t even be vaccinated and you want to take it on a plane? Not all c sections are alike just because you’ve had one before doesn’t mean recovery will be the same

spreadingchestnuttree · 22/04/2019 00:12

Just read your update. Sounds a fab holiday and will be even more so in October. Smile

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/04/2019 07:26

October sounds much more realistic.

What does your DH do that can get you a birth certificate and passport within 11 days?

Unihorn · 22/04/2019 07:32

I know you're no longer going now but just wanted to add that my second planned section following my first emergency one was a world away in terms of recovery. I was up and walking fine within a couple of hours and discharged within 24 hours. There was almost no pain compared to the first and I felt perfectly fine within two weeks.

CharlotteLV · 22/04/2019 07:45

I took a 6-week-old for a three-stop trip round the US (booked before she was born), and it was fine. I was completely absorbed in the baby, but it was nice to be doing that somewhere different, and to share the new baby more with partner and 2.5-yr-old. It meant I had to miss the Gibson factory tour in Memphis, due to it being feed time, but that just made me determined to go back one day!

Lieneke · 22/04/2019 08:23

Bonkers! No insurance company will insure you after abdominal surgery, you can not fly until 8-12 weeks post op before any company will cover you. Imagine having a blood cloth from flying or a bleed and ending up in intensive care, EHIC or insurance won’t cover. As for the newborn no idea but how can that be fair on a little one. Selfish is all I can think off.

OlivaX · 22/04/2019 08:33

If you give birth by caesarean section, you may need to wait until after your six-week postnatal check-up before you take to the skies. Even then, you should only fly when your GP gives you the all clear.

Brambieblue · 22/04/2019 08:58

The whole thing sounds madness. I think you should enjoy family life at home. There will alwaybe deals. I can’t imagine anything worse than going through all that airport security adapting to a new environment. Sounds to me like you are fleeing the prospects of the monotony of life with a new baby. In addition you are also going to have to manage your elder child’s anxieties about the arrival of new bubba I suggest you put your holiday on hold for at least 6 months by that time your new arrival will be well acquainted with you all and vice versa

foofooyeah · 22/04/2019 10:29

I do think you are wise to postpone the holiday. Hoping all goes well with the C section, and you have a fab holiday in Oct

Fair play for considering it though!! I’m freaking at the thought of an 2.5 year old and a 9 month old next year on a long haul flight to Mexico. Best friends wedding so can’t not go (also we want to go which makes the difference).

teraculum29 · 22/04/2019 10:50

if you that desperate to have a break, just book some holiday cottage nearby your house.
no way i would be travelling anywhere after birth.
if you book that ryanair flight you are just adding not necessary stress to your recovery after birth.
Getting birth certificate, then passport.
Have you thought what if?
there is a chance that you might be still in hospital.
