Taking a 12 day old baby on holiday ?

Desperate to get away as feel like I've been exhausted all third trimester, have a 8 year old daughter who would love a holiday, hubby coming along too. I've found an amazing deal in Sardinia, 7 nights at half term, full board and kids club for the 9 year old and golf for hubby. Me and baby could be on the beach all day chilling ! It's a 3.5 hour flight, shall I book it or is baby too young ? What would you do ?!?

I would use that money to hire a nightnurse and spend time with my 8 year old daughter. A good nights sleep is and time spent with your daughter will make you feel so much better than sitting on a beach with sand in your stitches.

We have to make appointments here for birth certificates can be anywhere from a week to the actual deadline 42 days, passports can also take 10 days to 6 weeks I’m waiting on my 2 children’s sent 6 days ago, I’ve had 4 natural births & wouldn’t want to travel with a 12 day old baby!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/04/2019 17:49

You have no idea how your birth will go. Don't be daft 🙄😂

Purplegecko · 21/04/2019 17:51

The risk is, you are ill following your section or (god forbid) it doesn't go smoothly and baby may need to stay in for a bit. Then you've spent money that you may not be able to get back. It's entirely up to you, it could all go fine and you have a lovely time on the other hand.

genic75 · 21/04/2019 17:55

Literally idiotic.

Kath246 · 21/04/2019 17:59

Full recovery from c-section at least 3 months. Baby would be way too young to cope with the cacophony of diseases and virus that he/she would be exposed to. You have to be completely irresponsible to even contemplate such a trip

4everhopeful · 21/04/2019 18:07

October sounds a better bet cos of potential section complications predominantly.. Even summer hols? July/Aug? Otherwise I'd absolutely say go for it.. DS was 9wks when we took him to Tenerife, was big family celebration post wedding hol organised by BIL so dates weren't optional. I was nervous initially, mainly of taking 3yr old DD and newborn, but luckily smooth fast birth, big healthy 9lber, no complications, and registered his birth and applied for passport on same day and amazingly all worked out. Having said that I probably wouldn't of wanted to go sooner. All the post bleeding was over with, and also was lucky enough to be exclusive breast feeding which was a godsend, as all he needed was nappies, my boobs, and one of those fab UV suncovers for the pushchair! Grin However DD didn't latch on til gone 6 wks and ended up combination feeding, can imagine having to deal with sterilisers and formula abroad would be a bit of a mare? Yes summer hols, or Oct half term probably more sensible tbh! Have a brilliant and well deserved holiday when you go! And congratulations in advance of your new addition! Flowers

I'm glad you changed your mind.

Chilling on the beach!!!
Either you had the best baby previously or you have totally forgotten.

(All my children had reflux. Put me with a newborn on to a beach and I would have walked into the sea like the Bull mc Cabe.)

exWifebeginsat40 · 21/04/2019 18:13

also the major issue with Ryanair is, that if the baby is bigger than you were expecting, you might need to check it into the hold.

JessieMcJessie · 21/04/2019 18:16

I’m intrigued what line of work would fast track a passport application for a baby. Is your husband Sajid Javid?

October sounds like a much better plan. It won’t be as hot for the baby and you will be fully recovered from the birth. You have a nice holiday to look forward to as well as the arrival of your lovely baby. Good luck, op!

Rose87777 · 21/04/2019 18:19

Sorry I haven’t read the full thread but was your 1st child born by csec? Sometimes people are a bit deluded and think csecs are the ‘easy way out’. This is absolutely not true. The last thing on gods green earth I would have done 12 days after my csec would be to travel on a plane to another county. I took be at least 10weeks to recover from if not more. Are you forgetting about all the bleeding that happens after the birth too in thinking you could chill on the beach ? Shock

Rose87777 · 21/04/2019 18:24

Sorry I see you have changed your mind. Good for you - enjoy your hol when you go and your lovely new arrival x

category12 · 21/04/2019 18:28

Newborn baby on the beach? Christ.

Earthakitty · 21/04/2019 18:29

Because you fancy a holiday you'd be happy to expose your newborn to infections galore on a plane and a noisy environment ?
Babies need calm, tranquility and germ free surroundings in their first 12 months.
Not to mention you'd be OK with it possibly screaming all the way there. What joy for the other people on the flight.......
Unbelievable.

Niquitic · 21/04/2019 18:31

After an emergency c- section which should have been a planned c-section & baby with jaundice that meant I stayed in another 3 days, nothing on earth would have made me schedule a holiday shortly after no.2 , even with another planned c-section. It's major abdominal surgery & my doctor specifically told me not to fly for min 4, pref 6 weeks.
Ryanair can have whatever they like as a policy - it's not as if they really care is it? Also did you specify c-s when you asked them about post birth flight ti.e?
Finally - really importantly - I have heard that as baby ears etc are not fully developed & even more so in the case of a planned c-s where baby can be a couple of weeks early - pressurised cabin can be v painful for the baby.

Niquitic · 21/04/2019 18:33

Apologies, I didn't see that you had adjusted your plans.

Hope all goes perfectly for you.

I haven’t had a chance to read the responses. Just to say the weather forecast in May and June is meant to be spectacular here. How about booking into a lovely spa hotel that has the activities you crave. There is a lovely hotel in Cornwall called bedrathon Steps that has a kids club and there are golf courses nearby. They also are geared up to families with babies.
You won’t end up dealing with any flights just a drive and then relax

di2004 · 21/04/2019 18:40

Nope. There’s no way I would want to travel to Sardinia or any other far flung place with a newborn that age. You’re making hard work for yourself and you know it.

SurreyisSunny · 21/04/2019 18:46

Ultimately it’s your decision as you know your body. Do check out your travel insurance and hospitals in Sardinia though.

Another option is to book for a July holiday, at least then you have something to look forward to.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/04/2019 18:52

Ultimately it’s your decision as you know your body actually wrt to an imminent birth, nobody knows how it will go.

Anyway, the OP has changed her mind now.

greenpop21 · 21/04/2019 19:00

No way if you haven't had the baby yet! You don't know how it will go and how you will feel. Don't put added pressure on yourself. I didn't go anywhere a[art from my area with a pram for 2 weeks!!!

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 21/04/2019 19:02

Nope too young.

I'd say leave it a bit longer than that just to be safe but even if Ryanair allow it its really not a good idea if it's a holiday abroad.
