Stupid bastard cunting WASPS!!!

I've been so looking forward to a break of some description.

Bugs/viruses back to back for ages, weather crap, working way too much. Just wanted a little garden break with the kids for Easter.

But the wasps are out in force, and they are huge buggers too.

I know you're supposed to stand still and they should go away, but they don't. We've got no food out, no juice, even taken the water out the the pool (as they were after the water), sprayed the garden with peppermint oil over the fences etc, and still they come.

I've never known them this early? I love Spring because the wasps aren't there. Every Spring we have picnics and garden time, and come August it's wasp time. But they're here now Sad

Anyone got any ideas to get rid of them? DH wants a wasp trap, but I'm not keen on attracting them, I want to repel them.

I can't decide if it's lots of Queen Wasps on the hunt for a home, or if the same one keeps coming back Grin

I've seen a few about. There were 2 in ds room that I attempted to shoo out of the window but ended up killing because the kids were screaming the house down.

I've coaxed a massive one out of the garage today (assuming it was a queen) and there was one hovering around this aft. Definetly docile and not even remotely interested in the half melted ice lolly ds had left on the table.

I might get some of the fake nests. Can't face a summer of battling with them like last year.

TheoriginalLEM · 20/04/2019 20:55

I set up a wasp.trap when we were camping one year as it was ridiculous. Orange juice in an ice cream carton with washing up.liquid added. The fuckers drown.

I feel bad because they do pollenate but i am allergic to several things so am scared of wasps.

There was one in our house yesterday. We keep a butterfly net handy for evictions.

Just mix sugar with water, let the sugar dissolve, put it on a plate in a corner in your garden and they won‘t bother you.

Bastards have been getting in the house all week. One stung me before which fucking hurt. I killed it with a hairbrush.

BlackeyedGruesome · 20/04/2019 22:24

I have had three in today. Two have been ushered out, one was in ds's room and his windows are swollen shut with window locks as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2019 22:30

Can we talk about ants too?
Our house is being invaded this evening. They are everywhere and as it's a bank holiday I'm going to have to put up with them. Fully expect to find them all moved in with teeny tiny suitcases by Tuesday.

gluteustothemaximus · 20/04/2019 22:36

I lived out in the sticks a few years ago, and had regular ant invasions.

One morning, came down without my glasses on, and went into the kitchen and the surfaces looked odd. Like they were moving. Got up closer and there were literally thousands of ants everywhere. It was rank. I hoovered them all up.

I’ve definitely had success with fake wasps nests before

longwayoff · 21/04/2019 07:15

Ants. I do this but people think I'm very odd. Look for where they're coming in from outside. Put a saucer outside by their entrance and put a couple of tablespoons of jam or honey, or sugar in some water, in the saucer. This gives them a readily available food source and if you keep it topped up they won't bother with your house. Always worked for me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/04/2019 08:25

Yikes at having to hoover them up! What if you got a hoover ants nest?

ncagain222 · 21/04/2019 09:00

I had a huge wasp fly into my car while I was driving yesterday. It was enormous so definitely a queen or even a hornet! I pulled over to a lay-by as quickly as possible and jumped out screaming!

PinkGinFreak · 21/04/2019 13:18

Last night 2am loudest buzzing I've ever heard RIGHT by my ear. It was a massive wasp which DH caught and evcited this morning. Was amazed I didn't get stung but no idea how it got there, no open windows and I'd been in the bedroom putting away clothes for ages earlierConfused. Scare the life out of me

gluteustothemaximus · 21/04/2019 15:25

We heard a huge buzzing noise coming from the lower roof area, looked in and saw a queen wasp trapped in a spiders web. Now I don't mind spiders so much! not in the house though

Probably no help to the OP, but the past 10 years, this time of year sees a flurry of wasps around the outside of the house. Never manage to see them enter/exit anywhere, but they seem to have the same areas of fascination around the eaves in certain places.

Anyway, despite not being a massive fan of the f*ers, a policy of live and let live seems to work. We see loads of them (evenings especially), but they seem content to buzz around - we're currently running a zero stings to lost-count-number of sightings.

(If we have a sting after I type this, I'm blaming MN Grin).

There's also a piece of garden furniture - our barbecue shelter which is made with treated wood) which they really seem taken with. Every year. Asking on a gardening forum suggested it could be the wood is perfect for making wasps nests from .. something about grains and fibres.

Now hornets on the other hand ... one of my abiding childhood memories is of my DF carrying my two DBs (one under each arm) and screaming at me to run, as he was pursued by a hornets nest he had rather unwisely uprooted while pulling a tree stump. Thankfully not in this country ...

Bluesmartiesarebest · 21/04/2019 16:09

I know wasps are pollinators but they scare me. I keep all windows and doors shut during the whole summer because I can’t deal with them.

DeathMetalMum · 21/04/2019 16:39

I think we had a queen trying to make a nest in our house the other day.

I was making dinner and noticed a few wasps flying round through the window - didn't think much of it. Went to go the shop and noticed one at the top of the stairs - very quickly shut the door hoping it would be gone out of the window by the time I got back. Turned round to find maybe 40 wasps hovering and dive bombing the upstairs window (where I'd seen the other wasp). Called dp to the rescue he killed two wasps that were in the house and shut the windows. The wasps outside spent the next 30-40 minutes hovering around and dive bombing the window but eventually left. Haven't seen them since - I was ready to move out for the weekend though!

DeathMetalMum · 21/04/2019 16:40

Oh I noticed a few birds hovering and swooping in to eat some of the wasps which was nice. Otherwise I was horrified.

gluteustothemaximus · 21/04/2019 16:42

DeathMetalMum oh god that sounds horrible. Stuff of horror movies Shock I'd have moved out too Grin
