I have a degree in biosciences. I don't work in science directly but in a very specific area of pharmaceuticals. Not lab based but more compliance and regulations. I earn £30k and do 3.5 days for that. Trouble is I'm getting bored and want to start thinking long term. I can't see me moving up further in my current job.
I want a job that is satisfying and rewarding. That can be worked around family (got 3 kids). That has decent pay and decent prospects to move up/gain more experience. It needs to be local (I.e I can't just move to a specific bit of the country for work). I don't want to commute too far. On job training would be awesome.
Jobs I THINK I would enjoy are (and some of these are probably a bit out there!)
-social work
-counselling
-psychologist
-speech therapy
-police detective
-website design/something in computers
I want to stay away from accountancy, law, medicine and teaching
But I'm not at all qualified for any of these. Although happy to undertake part time training as kids get older. Happy to invest money into it.
Anyone retrain in their late thirties? What did you do?
Anyone have any ideas what might suit me?
I'm getting to the stage where I think I either need really good money and suck it up being bored (eg become an accountant) Or a satisfying job and less pay. At the moment... I'm stuck in terms of pay, living in a house that is tiny, having no real quality of life due to childcare costs AND I'm bored.
