Hello there mums.i m a mother of 2 boys first one is 4 and a half and the second one is 3 months old. I have noticed him.not tracking any movements be it toys or my fave. He does noit make eye contact either. He does however look at lights n follows them. Its driving me insane the morw i read about it. I am goibg to visit a.doc on saturday. Just want to know if anyone has come accross this with their kids or any other insight on this topic that wud reassure me or otherwise guide me what steps should i take. In his first chek up the day he was born his red reflux or reflex i dont know was marked absent and at the 2 week chek up the doc said thatnits present now nothing to worry about. After that hus eyes have not been checked. Thank u

Do his eyes appear to wobble at all? My DS has an eye condition that meant he didn't fix and follow or look at my face.

Sabawaqas · 18/04/2019 09:34

They do wobble. Its like he doesnt seem to b distracted by any movement of toys or keys i do to get his attention except light. He will follow my mobile fone if the screen is lit. The same.when i do with a toy he dusnt respond. Niether does he follow my.movements or catch my face. Can u gice me more details about ur DS's eye condition

The name for the wobble my son has is nystagmus. It's caused by ocular albinism - a lack of pigment in his eyes. It's a genetic condition caused by both parents carrying a faulty gene but not all children get it. I think it's a 1 in 4 chance.

Mine was noticed by the health visitor at 7 weeks old then we were referred to the paediatrician and eye hospital.

It may not be that but I think you're right to get it looked into. Good luck.

Sabawaqas · 18/04/2019 10:46

Thank u so much i will definately ask the doc about it. Me and my husband are first cousins. Dont freak out we r muslims so its allowed. But now that u mentioned the faulty gene m a little worried since i have heard of all the problems kids face coming from parents who are first cousins. I will visit the doc on sat n will get back to the post about what the doc says. In the mean time request prayers from everyone for everything to be normal

Fingers crossed for you. One of the first things I was asked during the investigations was were we cousins (we're not) but I understand it is amore common condition if you are.

My boys is a very happy and loving teen now. People can rarely tell there is anything wrong with his eyesight unless he gets really close to them.

Will look out for your update.

Sabawaqas · 18/04/2019 11:23

Thnx for being concerned. Will get back 4 sure. My elder 1 is totally fine though so m hoping nothing to worry bout

Yikes, hope the kid is OK

Btw it is explicitly allowed in the Christian faith to marry your cousin, though in practice it's pretty uncommon now

Tippexy · 18/04/2019 12:28

Pretty uncommon and not the best idea, sadly.

wijjjy · 18/04/2019 12:59

Marrying your first cousin is allowed by Christians but there are very good reasons not to.

MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 18/04/2019 13:07

Good luck OP, you sound like a caring Mum and medical investigations and treatments are usually offered very quickly for babies. Fingers crossed for your little one.

Sabawaqas · 18/04/2019 17:19

Thank u MIA . I dont think any mother would be careless. But yea inhave turned into a paranoid mum now worrying bout every lik thing..just wasnt the same with the first one..lots of google screws u up too i guess.
About cousin marriage dats a whole other topic probably start another thread 4 it

OP you say he doesn’t follow things but does he acknowledge them at all? I.e. if you appear in front of him without making a sound does he register that you’re there or doo you need to make sound for that to happen?

I know an adult who presented with these symptoms as a baby and for them the answer was unfortunately not what you would want to hear at the moment. But I would seek a referral to an eye specialist ASAP to get it checked out professionally.

cestlavielife · 18/04/2019 17:38

Please ask the doctor to refer to paediatrician. And opthamologist.
My son has a microdeletion chromomal condition and no cousin relationship. Some can happen to anyone. Or completely randomly two people carry a condition and didn't know

Sabawaqas · 18/04/2019 19:45

Will be visiting the peadiatrian first and c wot she has to say.however indo want to see the ophthamologist too.

So i went to the doc today and turns out my baby has cataracts in both his eyes. Needs to be operated asap. Needless to say how worried i m. I reqyesst all u muns to pray for my child that we make the roght choice of doctors and that his vision is saved. Thnx for the concern. I was really upset but i thaught i need to post so dat God forbid if anyone else notices any problem they shouldnt wait. The doc said its already late n v need to get this done the very next minute. I forgot to mention earlier i noticed a white spot in his right eye which also made me more worried. I hope i get back soon with the news that DS is all fine now.

Poor baby. Well done for doing something about your worries and not leaving things to sort themselves out. Sending lots of love and prayers your way. Hope your baby recovers ASAP.

notapizzaeater · 20/04/2019 10:45

Good that they moving quick and getting him sorted,

Sabawaqas · 20/04/2019 10:47

I am mad at myself for delaying it. I kept readinf that by 3.months babies start to track. So i waited. My husband up until last night thaught i am just being paranoid. Its so hard to convey ur mother insticts to anyone else. I had serious palpitations since 2 days and knew for sure something is not right. Looking into all options. We live in muscat. Medical systrms here r different.

Sabawaqas, I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Nothing helpful to add, but I wish you all the best and hope you'll post again when your little boy has had his surgery.

Xiaoxiong · 20/04/2019 12:31

I'm so sorry you're going through this. When my son was in hospital a few years ago with a broken leg we shared a room with two different children, both of whom had severe health issues. Both were first cousin marriages with multiple children with genetic illnesses and it's a serious issue in our area (large Asian community of Pakistani origin).

Xiaoxiong · 20/04/2019 12:32

Sorry posted too early. Hope your little one is ok, they work wonders these days. Thanks and all the best.

Sabawaqas · 20/04/2019 14:48

Thanx everyone 4 d support its much needed at this testing time. I am.only hoping and praying to reach the right doctor as we have been advised not to waste any tym. Yes i am from.pakistan as well residing in muscat. Just remember my lil one in ur prayers. We r looking for options in dubai as well. Any suggestions would be welcomed if any

Hi Saba, My son has the same condition and was diagnosed under the same circumstances last year. It is very important that you move quickly and find a pediatric surgeon with lots of experience operating on cataracts. The sooner they can operate the better the likely outcome is. I suggest you join www.facebook.com/groups/119006164779279/?ref=bookmarks It is a very helpful group for parents of chldren with the condition. Also it will seem very scary to start with, but 6 months after our diagnosis and surgery it's just another part of our daily life and our boy is doing great.

JaneDoe7 · 20/04/2019 16:03

Also the facebook group has some members in Dubai who can help you with recommendations for hospitals & surgeons.
