To not believe that someone is ignorant of what a Nazi salute is

The footballer Wayne Hennessey has claimed not to know what a Nazi salute is, after being photographed making one. A man who visited war graves whilst on international duty in 2016.

I don't know what is worse- making such a claim, or the FA falling for it, and not at the very least requiring him to say visit a concentration camp or memorial as part of an educational programme.

Some people don’t even know what nazis are. Shocking levels of ignorance out there.

I know of an adult (early 20s, UK educated) who did not know what the holocaust was. People’s ignorance often shocks me.

YANBU OP.

When you see the picture you can tell his excuse is a load of shite and FA, despite ‘cracking down on racism within football’ don’t actual give a fuck Angry

I don't believe a word he says about this. In the picture, its pretty clear what hes doing

I support Crystal Palace FC and am embarrassed by the entire episode. For someone who doesn’t know what a nazi salute is he manages to do one very well. He should have just held his hand up (no pun intended ) and said it was in poor taste and I wasn’t thinking when I did it rather than this cobbled together load of nonsense

I once watched a documentary where a member of the KKK I believe, said that Nazi’s weren’t evil. & he “didn’t believe the stories about concentration camps”. They “gave the Jewish people showers. You’re not evil if you’re letting them have a shower”.
It was frightening the way that he/they had rewritten history in line with their beliefs.

The judges comment was telling:

a "lamentable degree of ignorance" about Adolf Hitler, fascism and the Nazi regime

Could be talking about many of the MN posters who try and score political points to be honest, they fall firmly into this category as well.
