To wash everyday?

I currently wash my hair every other day and on the days in between I just have a quick wash in the shower (I’m only in there for about 2 mins). I’m staying with my sister for the week and she says it’s a lot of water to use and that you don’t really need to wash every day- she says that every other day is fine. I just wondered if other people thought that washing everyday is too much? Thanks

I don't believe there are any soap dodgers on the thread.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 17/04/2019 16:39

Do the soap dodgers on here

Who is a 'soap dodger' on here? Confused

Limensoda · 17/04/2019 16:46

Washing every day is preferable but not necessary.
You won't die or kill anyone else if you don't wash every day. It's more comfortable and makes you feel fresher that's all. People need to understand what 'necessary' means.

BackBoiler · 17/04/2019 17:26

I wash my hair either every second or third day as I find everyday dries it out and it is very curly and dry anyway. I shower in the morning and have a bath at night (unless its a hair wash night and I have a shower again).

Makes me feel better and a quick 5min shower seems more effective than a wash in the sink

Ellieswede · 17/04/2019 17:33

I don't shower every day unless I have exercised which I do 4-5 times a week. I wash and get going and am not dirty in any way. A quick shower is fine if that's what you like but personally I don't think it's good for the skin to get washed every day. We remove our natural defence and I have read that this is one of the causes of more allergies these days. In either case, environmentally, we are heading for drought and we have to use water responsibly. How can we all save water? What do you do? I have a bucket in the shower and use the water for the garden as well as the washing up water. A small thing but better than nothing? We also have a 5-min limit on showers which everyone respects. Is that resonable? I think so.

Thisisnotreallymyname · 17/04/2019 17:55

Shower 4 times per week.Flannel wash 3 times per week.
Wash hair 2 or 3 times per week.

Reallyevilmuffin · 17/04/2019 17:56

She might not think it is. Others around her know it is XD.

Tubs11 · 17/04/2019 17:58

I shower every other day but that's cause I don't sweat a lot even when exercising. My husband showers daily as he sweats a lot so guess everyone has different showering needs.

Tubs11 · 17/04/2019 18:05

So if you don't shower everyday you have depression? What a load of old rubbish! Hmm

GingerLiberalFeminist · 17/04/2019 18:16

Perfectly normal to wash every day (and I wash my hair every day too but that's usually because I work out/cycle and get sweaty).
S'up to her how often she washes but yeah as others say offer some money for water if she wants!
Some people get het up about water wastage, I get that. I use the water from my hot water bottles into my water butt for example. I also try the usual rules of tumble dry as little as possible, invest in solar panels and avoid single use plastic. Makes up for my 3 min showers every day imo.

CornishGinger · 17/04/2019 18:16

I hardly sweat, even when I’ve done a work out! I think it’s because I’m always pretty dehydrated tbh but because of this I shower every other day and wash my hair twice a week. But I understand why some people do shower everyday, if I was a sweaty person then I would so I think she’s being unreasonable.

Purplegecko · 17/04/2019 18:26

I shower twice a day and wash my hair every 3-4 days (it's very long and thick, not oily in the slightest so doesn't need it). I exercise in the morning and then cycle to and from work and uni, if feel gross if I didn't bathe/shower! That being said my showers rarely exceed 5 minutes, and I often bath or shower with my DD as she's little so not using loads of water.

deedeegee · 17/04/2019 18:28

Surely it's up to the individual.. subject to every second day!!

pollymere · 17/04/2019 18:30

I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and shower at least 3. I wash essentials every day, I just can't be bothered to get my shower up and running for that. If I'm somewhere and the shower is a push button for perfect temp, I wash as you do. It's up to you.

Prequelle · 17/04/2019 18:31

Washing hair every other day usually isn't needed though unless you've conditioned your hair to require it - which a lot of people have.

I have hair down to my bum and it's used in our local hairdressers as model hair - I wash it once a week! If I increase it, it starts becoming greasy much more quickly especially in winter and a vicious cycle of hair washing begins.

billydilly · 17/04/2019 18:45

Interestingly, as I lay in the bath reading this my cat pissed on the towel I was about to use. I feel that he was making an oblique statement.

genius1308 · 17/04/2019 18:47

I shower and wash my hair every morning when I get up and bath every night before going to bed (so does the husband and both kids-age 4 and 11). I always think when you wake up in the morning you feel a bit clammy because you've been under a big duvet all night so I like to get a shower to feel fresh. On a night I think I feel a bit grotty just from the general grime you come into contact with throughout the day so it's nice to have a hot bath on clean pjs on every night before you crawl into bed. Our whole family does the same. A far cry from when i was a kid and you got one bath and hair wash a week, on a Sunday night ready for school (it cost too much to turn the emersion heater on any more often lol).

YemenRoadYemen · 17/04/2019 18:54

Another one who can't think of anything more grim than the 'strip wash' that gets trotted out on these threads.

How is it possible to 'rummage' (God) with a wet, soapy cloth under pyjamas, and how can that be considered a pleasant (preferable) thing to do? Confused

Just get in the shower, for heaven's sake.

And no OP, YANBU.

flabbymommy · 17/04/2019 19:00

I would love to be able to shower daily but my skin just can’t handle it. I can shower/bath every 3 days between that I have to just do a sponge bath and use a load of moisture creams. I hate it because I feel so grubby between but the agony of trying to push it leaves my skin cracked and bleeding and prone to infections.

nuxe1984 · 17/04/2019 19:18

I shower including washing my hair every morning. And if I've been up to London or had a busy day out and about then I'll shower (but not wash hair) before I go to bed.
Every body sweats. Look it up. It's quite a lot. Add to that the dead skin you shed and you can see why daily washing is a good idea.

Fridakahlofan · 17/04/2019 19:22

I used to shower every day. Now I do so every second day because I am worried about my environmental impact. My skin and hair feel in much better condition and I have less guilt and more time!

Fruityb · 17/04/2019 19:27

I shower every other day but might wash my hair in between. I feel horrible if my hair is dirty but not too fussed about a daily shower. I wear clean clothes pretty much every day and always wash my face and hands before bed (hands at various other times too)

I grew up in a house of 7 people with an immersion heater and no central heating so it wasn’t really possible for us all to shower daily. It’s not something I’ve done in my life. I might shower daily in summer but at other times I’m really not that fussed about it!

I’m not a soap dodger either - I smell lovely!

Lovely13 · 17/04/2019 19:31

Dry skin requires moisturiser every time I shower, otherwise I itch like hell. So I only do it once a week! Such a faff. Same for hair. Scalp is madly itchy post wash. I do ye olde strip wash daily instead. I don’t think I smell?!?!
