To wash everyday?

I currently wash my hair every other day and on the days in between I just have a quick wash in the shower (I’m only in there for about 2 mins). I’m staying with my sister for the week and she says it’s a lot of water to use and that you don’t really need to wash every day- she says that every other day is fine. I just wondered if other people thought that washing everyday is too much? Thanks

One entry defines a "sootikin" as a small mouse-shaped deposit formed in the vaginal cleft of poor women who did not wear undergarments - common until the 19th century. A sootikin built up over several weeks, even months, of not washing.

Eewwwww!!!! Thanks @MaxNormal and here I am eating lunch Grin

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 13:46

Maybe they hadn't invented oral sex in the middle ages Wink

MaxNormal · 17/04/2019 13:47

@runningintotime Any time Grin

SimonJT · 17/04/2019 13:51

FWB on his way, freshly washed!

So, OPs sister schedules sex for wash days, does that mean she then had sex and doesn’t have a shower until her usual shower day?!

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 17/04/2019 13:52

Oh FFS - 'sootikins' (if they were actually a real thing and not some misogynist bullshit) would have been from not cleaning anything at all for months.

Not from 48 hours!

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 17/04/2019 13:54

Do people really get super smelly fannies if they skip a shower one day?!

MRex · 17/04/2019 13:56

How do the sootikins become mouse-shaped? And surely that would be itchy? And wouldn't it be rinsed out when you wee?

motherheroic · 17/04/2019 13:56

@BarbieJellyBabyBrain No, but you get a build up of piss, smegma and skin cells. Hygiene isn't just about smells.

runningintotime · 17/04/2019 14:05

@MaxNormal

Any time Grin

And "sootikins" sounds like such a sweet word - thinking of Sooty from the "Sooty & Sweep Show"!

woodhill · 17/04/2019 14:09

What's Smegma - thinking Red Dwarf

woodhill · 17/04/2019 14:09

Yes definitely Sooty and Sweep - thought the same

JessieMcJessie · 17/04/2019 14:12

What is intriguing here is that she is your sister- most of us learn our attitudes/standards regarding washing from our upbringing. So which one of you is deviating from what your Mum taught you?

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 17/04/2019 14:14

And women in the Middle Ages used to get sootikins!

After weeks and months of not washing and going commando.

64sNewName · 17/04/2019 14:17

The sootikins thing isn’t real.

I’m at the “probably washes too often” end of this spectrum but I don’t believe in sootikins for a moment - it sounds like a fiction designed to play on the idea that female genitals and/or women generally are disgusting.

picotinenatch · 17/04/2019 14:21

female genitals and/or women generally are disgusting

All unwashed genitals (any gender) get disgusting after not washing for long enough and we all have backsides.

64sNewName · 17/04/2019 14:26

You’re missing my point picotine. I happen to agree with you on a personal level but that doesn’t mean made-up misogynist angles on the whole discussion should go unchallenged.

The sootikins thing just plays on ancient ideas of women as polluted, and women still die today because of shit like that.

Bellasorellaa · 17/04/2019 14:30

i wash twice a day, quick rub down in morning and evening full shower usually after gym.
I wash my hair every other day, sometimes leave it 4-5 days because i hate washing it

picotinenatch · 17/04/2019 14:31

64sNewName Ah, I do see now, thanks - yes you are right. I have done a little research and it does seem to be a hoax, all of it.

Gekeos · 17/04/2019 14:33

I shower and wash my long hair everyday, my dc and dh also do this I presumed everyone showered everyday.

Bellasorellaa · 17/04/2019 14:33

Do people really get super smelly fannies if they skip a shower one day?!

www.mum.org/lysol34.htm

Like this 1930s advert. Squirting Lysol disinfectant up your vag "turns wretched marriages into happy ones" apparently Shock

picotinenatch · 17/04/2019 14:37

Oh dear God!

www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz-tv/hot-tv/756350/sex-clinic-e4-smegma-twitter-reaction-sti-zach-dr-noami-sutton

This man hasn't washed his dick properly in 24 years!!!!!!!!!!

longwayoff · 17/04/2019 14:55

Since we've diverged into fanny territory I refer you all to my morning post, 'detoxify your vulva'. Not quite lysol (ouch) but not far off.

catx1606 · 17/04/2019 15:32

"Shower and hair wash every day. My hair is quite greasy and also picks up a lot of smells so I like it clean"

My hair is greasy, but if I wash it every day, it's greasy by lunchtime. I now wash it twice as week and it takes 2 to 3 days to get greasy

queenscot · 17/04/2019 15:49

Perhaps a few on here have depression or something. Showering is like making your bed, ensuring you have clean laundered clothes all the little steps we do for structure and to feel better. Do the soap dodgers on here wear make up everyday, shave/wax, body lotion for this dry skin you all have which I believe is more than lightly dead skin cell build up and you probably require a good exfoliation, or it all that stuff full of chemicals?
