To think my fried eggs can't be a 30D

When the great creator was giving out breasts I was stood at the back of the line. I have always had what looks like an A cup (apart from a stint of breastfeeding when I had actual bosoms for a while). They have grown a bit now I am in my early 40s, maybe due to some hormonal changes but nobody in their right mind would call them anything but small. At a push they could be what I would consider a B. I have tended to go for the widest band sizing (up to a 36) with the smallest cup because I find it hard to tolerate the feeling of a tight band around my ribs and can't bear the feel of a wire.
Anyway, being aware that as a petite size 8 I am most likely not truly a 36A I just measured (and remeasured) myself following the accepted instructions online and I have come out as.... a 30D.
AIBU to think WTAF?! Does such a bra even exist and would it not be some kind of freakish looking thing. And how could my small handfuls be anything close to a D?
I know I should go and see one of the nice ladies in marks and spencer and get measured but I've never felt entirely deserving of even being in the bra section if you know what I mean.

My dd is a
30 EE

dementedpixie · 15/04/2019 20:22

30D=32C=34B=36A with regards to cup volume (same cup volume on different back sizes). With the smaller back size you get more support where it's supposed to be

surelynot30D · 15/04/2019 20:24

Will a 30 band not squeeze my ribs torturously though? Even the 32s I have seen in the shops look like something that would fit on a child?!

I wouldn't trust M&S with bra measurements either. My 15 year old dd wears a 30DD btw and her boobs arent enormous

surelynot30D · 15/04/2019 20:25

If I am a bit more lax with the band measurements I come out as a 32C. I can't get my head around not being an A!

Amazingly, I am a 32DD

DD ? I always thought of myself as flat chested Hmm

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/04/2019 20:25

If you are a size 8 you aren’t a 36! .

I’m a size 16 and I’m a 34. I’d say you are probably a 28

Propertywoes · 15/04/2019 20:25

I once did that bra thing that mumsnet loves. I came out as a 36gg so I duly went and tried one on. The result was hilarious. It was like two cherry bakewells in a shopping bag. I got myself measured properly and I'm a 36dd. So basically... The only way to find out is to go get measured, don't believe what you read on the internet.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2019 20:26

No it shouldn't as you will have more room in the bigger cup for breast tissue whereas they were 'stealing' from the strap fabric before.

AnyFucker · 15/04/2019 20:26

Btw, don't go to M+ S...they will put you back in a 36A.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/04/2019 20:27

It’s the difference between the two measurements that you get the cup. So it depends on your cup measurements. A means nothing unless you know the measurements. I think it starts at AA.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2019 20:27

I'm a 36 back at a size 20/22 so there is no way you are 36 at a size 8

dementedpixie · 15/04/2019 20:28

And a 36D would be a bigger cup size than a 30D as cup size is relative to back size

Nacreous · 15/04/2019 20:28

Honestly, I have done the Mumsnet method. I've been measured at bravissimo. I've been measured at an independent shop. In theory I should wear something like a 30F, but it's hideously uncomfortable and I hate it. I wear a 36DD instead and am much happier.

BillywigSting · 15/04/2019 20:29

There is no way you are a 36. I'm a 14 and I'm a 32ff, and mine aren't mosquito bites but they aren't huge either.

GlossyTaco · 15/04/2019 20:29

A 30d sounds fairly reasonable for the frame you describe op , possibly even a 28 band. I wear a 32f and consider myself to be very much an average size , I wear a size 14.

Try a 30d/28dd bra for a week and see how you feel.

SerenDippitty · 15/04/2019 20:30

I’m a 32F. My boobs do not stick out that far but have spread out over my chest over the years like jellies on a hot day, so need a larger cup to contain them.

Teateaandmoretea · 15/04/2019 20:31

I also have non-existent breasts and wear a 34D. In my case I put it down to being tall and them taking up now area as a result.

Teateaandmoretea · 15/04/2019 20:31

More not now

Almostfifty · 15/04/2019 20:31

I thought I was a 34D. I'm a 30F. Much more comfortable in the smaller back, it fits me perfectly.

I was told on here I was probably that, and measured that in John Lewis.

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/04/2019 20:32

After years of thinking I was a 34B, went into M&S and tried on many many bras, actually a D cup and have a fairly matronly bust in the wrong top. Two years later I am still surprised.

WellTidy · 15/04/2019 20:34

I am a 30d or a 32c depending on the bra. My boobs are tiny. I used to wear a 34a or a 36aa, and whilst I knew that the band was too loose, I could not work out what my size should be as, to me, I had a or AA cup size boobs. I now know that I have what are charmingly called ‘shallow breasts’ and a lightly padded balconette bra is what works for me. I am a size 10-12.

surelynot30D · 15/04/2019 20:35

Guys you are all completely blowing my mind. If it wasn't so clearly inappropriate I would like to show you how small they are. I mean I think of a D cup as a busty lady.
I'm a size 8 and weigh 8 stone so I know I'm probably not an actual 36 but how tight is the band supposed to be? When I have tried on smaller bands I feel like they are killing me and they tend to have the cups really close together in the middle. I guess I do need to get measured. Interesting that someone has said not m&s. Maybe I need to shop around.

I too am a D after I measured myself the MN way. The band tightness took some getting used to but I feel properly supported for the first time in my life and as the bras get older they're a little looser!

UCOforAC12 · 15/04/2019 20:38

Bravissimo all the way! I didn't dare set foot due to tiny boobs but they do do Ds and they fit!
