To think my fried eggs can't be a 30D

When the great creator was giving out breasts I was stood at the back of the line. I have always had what looks like an A cup (apart from a stint of breastfeeding when I had actual bosoms for a while). They have grown a bit now I am in my early 40s, maybe due to some hormonal changes but nobody in their right mind would call them anything but small. At a push they could be what I would consider a B. I have tended to go for the widest band sizing (up to a 36) with the smallest cup because I find it hard to tolerate the feeling of a tight band around my ribs and can't bear the feel of a wire.
Anyway, being aware that as a petite size 8 I am most likely not truly a 36A I just measured (and remeasured) myself following the accepted instructions online and I have come out as.... a 30D.
AIBU to think WTAF?! Does such a bra even exist and would it not be some kind of freakish looking thing. And how could my small handfuls be anything close to a D?
I know I should go and see one of the nice ladies in marks and spencer and get measured but I've never felt entirely deserving of even being in the bra section if you know what I mean.

I'm a 32G. Small back size/big cups do exist but they are a bugger to buy. You can't buy from high street clothes shops and you generally can't buy in department stores either, unless they carry a specialist big boobs brand. You usually have to go to the specialist bra shops or go to bravissimo - they will have loads of bras in your size.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/04/2019 10:04

I mean I think of a D cup as a busty lady

That's where you're going wrong and it's probably partly due to newspapers reporting slim and busty celebs as 34DD or something similar when they're probably more like a 28G, because many are very slim and not very tall.

Any time people have stated their bra size on here, almost no-one is lower than a D cup and someone's DH was reported as a C cup too.

But sadly, bras in the shops don't seem to fit the average woman - I'm a medium sized woman with medium sized breasts and 'normal' shops often don't cater for my size of around 32F.

But if you can afford it, Bravissimo really are worth it. You just sit there while the assistant does all the running around and if you want to save, you could buy one properly fitted bra and try to find duplicates online for less.

I had myself measured recently at boux avenue, I used to kick about in 28-30c bras but noticed they weren't fitting right. Walked out a 30dd or E. My boobs wouldn't fill a man's handConfused. My boobs now look great in a 30dd and a much better shape.

I’ve neasured all my currrent 33A bras and the band length on all of them is 28 inches. So I don’t understand first why a bra labelled 34 has an actual size of 28 inches. Second how I’m supposed to squeeze into a bra that’s even smaller than that!

^^This. I've been trying to get bras for my 12 yo and nothing fits. She is 28" round her ribs and over 32" round her bust. "Teen" bras only start at 30 band size which is too big, except when you measure them the 30 only measures 25". Cup sizes tend to be AA, A, and B if you are lucky. We've had most success with a size 6 soft bra from the adults section at Matalan, but even that isn't a good fit.

There is a huge gap in the market for small back size/larger cup size bras for tweens/teens/younger women in the UK.If only I knew how I would be trying to fill it!

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/04/2019 10:32

Exactly, do manufacturers not look at the typical sizes of teens, young women, or even older ones who are petite, slim but not flat chested?

Who do they think they are making bras for?

But then again, I've never seem a lasagne dish that lasagne sheets fit in without having to cut them all up to fit. If I was in the business of making lasagne dishes, I would make them exactly 1, 2 or 3 times the size of a sheet of lasagne, not 1.5 x 2.25 sheets as they seem to be now.

I have no trouble finding 32f bras at John Lewis , if I can't find them in-store then I just do a click and collect order. It's the only shop local to me that does the low back/high cup combo though , and I'm surrounded by shops.

fairydustandpixies · 17/04/2019 10:53

OP, definitely get measured in a shop. I'm a size 18 and was wearing a 42B, decided to venture into a local lingerie shop to be meaured and it turns out I'm a 36F - I think the whole town heard me howling with laughter!

Roomba · 18/04/2019 09:50

I'm so flat chested it's ridiculous, and even I came out as a 28C when using the new method. And I have to say, it turned out to be comfier (once I'd got used to the tighter band) and actually made me look like I had some boobs!

Roomba · 18/04/2019 09:52

This is very funny as I was just having a little rant about that the other day Grin

While we are on this (sorry for derailing)
Why do wine glass makers and dishwasher makers not have any sort of sit down chat?
I can’t buy nice glasses that fit into the top bit of the dishwasher without risking snapping off the stems, even when putting the top rack on the lower setting

Yes, those ‘orrible stubby ones you get in pubs and as glass hire will fit, but not any that people would actually have in their homes

ZazieTheBruce · 18/04/2019 10:01

A lot depends on the material the band is made out of.

I measure between two band sizes. If the band material is pretty stretchy I go for the smaller size band. If it’s quite rigid I often go up a band size and down a cup size. But increasingly I just go for the stretchy band as I move around a lot.

You'd better not come round to my house then Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/04/2019 16:23

[Confused] If it holds wine and fits in the dishwasher it's welcome in my house. I have 3 sorts of wine glasses, all from ikea, all very cheap, and l like them all, expensive wine glasses is not something that I understand.

Don't you cry if one gets broken?

WeaselsRising · 21/04/2019 11:42

Went to Bravissimo and came out in a 34GG Grin. Took DD to Boux Avenue and she was fitted into 28C. Makes all the difference.
