To think my fried eggs can't be a 30D

When the great creator was giving out breasts I was stood at the back of the line. I have always had what looks like an A cup (apart from a stint of breastfeeding when I had actual bosoms for a while). They have grown a bit now I am in my early 40s, maybe due to some hormonal changes but nobody in their right mind would call them anything but small. At a push they could be what I would consider a B. I have tended to go for the widest band sizing (up to a 36) with the smallest cup because I find it hard to tolerate the feeling of a tight band around my ribs and can't bear the feel of a wire.
Anyway, being aware that as a petite size 8 I am most likely not truly a 36A I just measured (and remeasured) myself following the accepted instructions online and I have come out as.... a 30D.
AIBU to think WTAF?! Does such a bra even exist and would it not be some kind of freakish looking thing. And how could my small handfuls be anything close to a D?
I know I should go and see one of the nice ladies in marks and spencer and get measured but I've never felt entirely deserving of even being in the bra section if you know what I mean.

When you tried on smaller bands did you try a bigger cup size? If not, they would feel tight as there wouldn't be enough fabric for the breast tissue

Perfick · 15/04/2019 20:39

I don't really need a bra I am that flat chested. M&s repeatedly put me in a 32aa. The band was too tight, cups too close together, the back of the band was really far up my back even with the straps at full length and I didn't fill the cups. I told them this each time, but they said that was the smallest cup and other than one of the vests with a shelf there wasn't anywhere else to go. I went to a lovely lady in House of Fraser who whisked me into the changing room, didn't even go near a tape measure and sorted me out with a 30c. I thought the band would be way too tight, but with the right cup size it fits like a dream. The cup is smaller than that of the old 32aa, they are flatter but wider. Only problem is that 30 back bras are hard to find.

grincheux · 15/04/2019 20:40

30DD here too - only Wonderbra seem to stock it, and I too thought I was a modest B until I was measured in there a couple of years back!

surelynot30D · 15/04/2019 20:40

Does anyone have a link to the mumsnet way of measuring? I used another guide online.

All bras are different and you need to try on a few as you may have breasts that are close together or those that may be separated more widely

Do not be put off by the 34 back. Just try them on

RuggyPeg · 15/04/2019 20:41

Defo not m&s. They haven't moved with the times and measure the wrong old fashioned way. A D cup just sounds big cos we've been led to believe for years that DD=busty. Page 3 stunna with her DDs - who was probably more like 28F.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/04/2019 20:43

D cup isn’t that big. I’m ff and I’m not massive.

We have been trained to think 36DD is busty because the sun page 3 models were always said to be that size. But 36 is far too wide for your frame.

Fjfs · 15/04/2019 20:43

I'm supposedly a 28E. I wore said new bra for about 4 hours to a wedding. When I came back my ribs were bleeding from the strap.
My boobs did look good mind you, but never again.
I'm now happy with a 36C. Can't stand something squeezing the life out of me.

surelynot30D · 15/04/2019 20:43

Thank you all. That is really interesting feedback about the smaller band/ bigger cups. I have probably tried on the smaller bands but with an A cup. I have never considered anything other than at most a B cup! I will be trying on some smaller bands with bigger cups for sure. It will be interesting to see if they are more comfortable.

Sorry Ruggy x post.

dementedpixie · 15/04/2019 20:44

thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.com/p/fitting-advice.html?m=1 or Boob or bust on fb

RuggyPeg · 15/04/2019 20:45

Measuring is easy. Get naked. Measure just underneath breasts. Keep tape taught but not ded tight. This is the band size. Do not add anything on! Then measure over the fullest part of your breasts. For every 1 inch difference, add a cup size. Start at A, not AA. So 30 and 34 would be a 30D, for instance

chillychicken · 15/04/2019 20:45

I’m a size 10/12 and a 30J. I always find the first wear or two it feels really tight by the end of the day, but after that it’s comfortable. If you’re near a bravissimo, go in and ask to be measured. They’re really good.

mineofuselessinformation · 15/04/2019 20:46

My best advice to you is to go somewhere that has reliable bra sizes like m&s, taking someone else with you.
Take every possible size combination that you think you need (friend can go for more if needed!) into the changing room and get your friend to adjust the straps for you - that makes a massive difference.
It will really give you a good guide as to what size you should be, with no pressure on selling to you.
Look out for bra not fitting against your ribs at the front, and 'back fat' - both indicators of a poor fitting bra.
If you really are a narrow back and large cup size the teen bras might suit you better.

surelynot30D · 15/04/2019 20:46

Thanks, that's the method I used. So the area underneath is 30 and across breasts is 34 giving 30D.
I'm a D cup!!

mineofuselessinformation · 15/04/2019 20:47

P.S. I have small boobs, but am a B or C cup depending on how much weight I am carrying, so DD is perfectly possible!

mimibunz · 15/04/2019 20:48

Fried eggs? Seriously?

Singlebutmarried · 15/04/2019 20:48

I’ve worn a 34 DD for years

I sent a pic to the fairyboobmother on FB and she advised a 32 F

I no longer have udders, just lovely boobs where they should be. Lot less achy as well.

Haffiana · 15/04/2019 20:49

I can always tell the people who get measured by M&S and get told they are a 36 A or B when they are clearly meant to be a 30 DD.

They are the people with a sort of droopy squelch in the middle of their chests several inches below where their breasts should be.

A 36 B bra will of course be wearable. It will also make you look years older and will probably rub and leave red marks under your breasts making you secretly wonder if your bra is a bit tight and you will loosen it to the last fastening. It will still rub and be uncomfortable. You will be so grateful finally to get your bra off at the end of each day.

A proper fitting bra will feel absolutely wonderful, not just under your breasts but right the way round to under your armpits. You will not ever feel the burning desire to rip it off when you get home from work. Your clothes will hang far better and you will look years younger. Your breasts will be in exactly the right place high on your chest. You will look and feel fantastic, and your bra will never rub or leave red marks, despite being inches tighter than that 36 B.

Ohyesiam · 15/04/2019 20:49

I’m
Size 16 and a 36 bra band. Don’t think you can be.

DropZoneOne · 15/04/2019 20:50

I spent 20 years in a 34AA, until DD finished breastfeeding. No longer finding my old bras comfy, and with my now droopy fried eggs sadly in need of boosting, i found myself being measured as 30C! It takes a fair amount of persuading what little there is out from under my armpits, but the tighter band does hold them rather nicely in place.

I did find the 30 band tight at first, so perhaps try the sister size in 32 band until that feels comfy. I also find the fits differ in different shops, so do have a collection of 30C and 32B (and 32C for really padded ones).

AnyFucker · 15/04/2019 20:52

Yes...you are a D cup

Wearing the correct size bra did wondrrs for my shape, seriously.

Starlive23 · 15/04/2019 20:54

I read the title as 3D and thought it was about food! Like 3D Easter eggs!

Stopandlook · 15/04/2019 20:55

I went from 34B to 30G using the booborbust method. I’m size 10. I do love my new bras and feel properly supported but the cups do feel a bit close to my armpits!

AnnaMagnani · 15/04/2019 20:55

If you are a size 8, you aren't a 36.

I'm a size 16, generously and I'm in the inside hooks of a 34.

And never ever get measured in an M&S. They haven't a clue and will put you back in a 36A.

You could easily be a 30D. The D cups for a 30 band are pretty small - probably just your size!
