Consultant wants to see me in the morning

I had my appendix out last week. They said it was quite infected and blocked. They said they would be sending it off for tests. Just got a call this evening to say the Consultant wants to see me tomorrow morning to discuss the results.

I am besides myself with worry. Would they want to see me so quickly if it wasn’t bad news. Or are they just being super efficient? Does everybody get a follow up appointment after surgery? Anyone got any experience of this that can help me to calm down?

Hi everyone. I’m back and all is fine. Turns out there were abnormal cells found in my appendix, but they are not malignant, and everything came out with the appendix. Surgeon is not concerned but did say that it is quite an unusual and rare occurrence, hence him wanting to explain it to me. I may have to go for follow up scans just to make sure, but nothing concerning at the moment.

I was going to say, possibly post surgical infection issue? My Dad had abdominal surgery recently and ended up with an internal and external infection. It does seem pretty common.

Sorry, mine was shite !

The Pet scan found cancer in his lung and lymph nodes. Having a biopsy tomorrow but they already just talking about palliative care.

I know two women who have had ruptured appendixes which turned out to be cancerous - two different forms of cancer no less. Neither needed any further treatment.

It’s good that they found whatever it was and I hope you don’t need any further treatment either.

So sorry not a pizza eater.

I had cancerous (well, carcinoid) cells in my appendix when it was removed aged 10. They didn't even follow me up beyond an initial appointment so at least your team are a bit more proactive! I'm now 34 and have had no trouble with it since then, fingers crossed!
