Sex Pay Gap - A solution?

FemForceOne · 15/04/2019 15:27

The sex pay has been around forever and for obvious reasons men do not want it to go. In addition to keeping the money for the selves they use the sex pay gap as a mechanism for female oppression.

So, if a law was passed that made men pay a higher rate of tax than women then several benefits would follow. This would immediately eradicate the sex pay gap. Men would have less power over women. Also the extra money raised could be spent on women's only charities and could be seen as reparations that are long overdue.

Look, I know there would be some injustice towards a few men - heart bleeds- but the injustices they inflict on women are massive so I'm not too upset in a few more men can no longer afford golf.

Women wouldn''t benefit though OP.

Most women would be worse off as their household income will be reduced.

optimisticpessimist01 · 15/04/2019 16:08

Again, it is the GENDER pay gap.

You clearly haven't done any research on this.

You have called yourself "femforceone" , yet as a "feminist" fighting for EQUAL rights, you have chosen to instead discriminate against men just because they are men? Imagine if a male even dared of taxing women more than men just because, you'd have a meltdown

I thought this would be a sensible, educated debate on the GENDER pay gap. Clearly I was mistaken. Your estimation is even incorrect. It is not "around 7%" it currently sits at 8.6%.

FemForceOne · 15/04/2019 16:09

If the new tax only kicked in with men earning £35000 or above it wouldn't impact on the poor.

OP posts:
TheViceOfReason · 15/04/2019 16:09

You REALLY haven't thought this through at all. And if it is for an article.... then you really need to try a little harder on your concept.

whodafeck · 15/04/2019 16:09

How does a man on minimum wage afford golf?

ghostyslovesheets · 15/04/2019 16:10

does your heart bleed for their wives and children who suffer a drop in an already low income?

can you answer the point about capitalism?

are you a first year A level sociology student?

FemForceOne · 15/04/2019 16:10

The SEX pay gap is a tool of male oppression, if removed women in the long term would benefit.

whodafeck · 15/04/2019 16:10

How’s it going to work in a family where the woman is a SAHP and the man goes out to work? He’s going to earn less for the family? So his partner is going to be penalised?

PregnantSea · 15/04/2019 16:10

This is the most stupid thread I have ever seen on mumsnet

optimisticpessimist01 · 15/04/2019 16:11

Women are not paid less than men just because we are women, there are hundreds of reasons behind it.

Of course some businesses discriminate, just like they discriminate against ethnic minorities, disabilities etc. Should we tax all non-disabled people more than disabled people too until we all earn the same amount? There's a pay gap there too.

NewGrandad · 15/04/2019 16:11

Look, I know there would be some injustice towards a few men - heart bleeds- but the injustices they inflict on women are massive so I'm not too upset in a few more men can no longer afford golf.

Tell me about the injustices I personally have inflicted on any woman? Doesn't have to be massive even a little one would do.

FemForceOne · 15/04/2019 16:11

If he is on minimum wage it wouldn't apply to him only men on £35000 or more.

OP posts:
VanGoghsDog · 15/04/2019 16:11

The sex pay gap is about 7% in the UK. You just tax men across the board until this is 0.

The pay gap is not worked out on net pay, obviously, it's worked out on gross pay. So no matter how much you tax men more than women, the gap would remain the same.

Bonkers idea anyway.

ghostyslovesheets · 15/04/2019 16:11

£35K is not a huge amount - especially if you are supporting a family

FemForceOne · 15/04/2019 16:13

There are many nice - I know this.

However as class men have and continue to oppress women. Even the nice men benefit from the acts of unpleasant men so all men benefit from patriarchy so all men should pay a price it dismantling it.

OP posts:
optimisticpessimist01 · 15/04/2019 16:13

You are really uneducated on the topic, you clearly have done no research whatsoever on the reasons behind the pay gap. Nor have you done any research behind how to eradicate this. If you want to continue your ignorant, uneducated, narrow-minded view then so be it, but you're making yourself look like a fool.

NoBaggyPants · 15/04/2019 16:14

So the male teacher earning £38K pays 27% tax and his female colleague pays 20%. They have the same pay scale, the same experience, the same responsibilities.

Tell us what part of that is fair or, dare I suggest, even slightly rational?

AlaskanOilBaron · 15/04/2019 16:14

Do you have plans to regulate potential imbalances that arise with after-tax (after-sex-pay-gap-tax) investments?

ghostyslovesheets · 15/04/2019 16:15

OP what about CAPITALISM ?

FemForceOne · 15/04/2019 16:16

It's not fair NoBaggy.

But, again, the sex pay gap isn't fair. In order to remove it there will be some injustice but the bigger picture is the important part

OP posts:
FemForceOne · 15/04/2019 16:16

I can see thsi is not popukar so I won't post agin.

I'll ask MN to remove it.

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheets · 15/04/2019 16:17

AIBU

yes

I'm getting it removed

NoBaggyPants · 15/04/2019 16:17

The disabled pay gap is over 20%. Do you propose non disabled workers paying 20% higher tax to make up the difference?

Or would that be totally ridiculous?

TheViceOfReason · 15/04/2019 16:19

Are we going to have a white british national only tax too? A quick google suggests certain ethnic groups lose up to 17%.

Then there is the age gap too.

So maybe:
If you earn over x amount you pay an additional x% tax.
If you are white an extra x%.
Male an additional x%.
Reduction of x% if you are female.
Reduction of x% if not white.
Reduction of x% if not British.

Or does that not fit your (ridiculous) arguments OP?
