because I have packed her clothes for a trip to the grandparents and asked her to choose some toys to take with us.

AIBU not to let her bring half her wardrobe for an overnight stay?

She's five years old. Her clothes are packed already and she has the choice of taking a few toys. If she can't or won't choose which toys to take she goes without. Clothes issue / argument i wouldn't entertain

Probably just over exciyenent/nervousness for the trip. You can be sympathetic and calm but you certainly can't set the precedent that a tantrum gets you your way.
