To be disconcerted by my new naked neighbour ...

I live in an upper floor flat in a large house converted into flats. The house next door has been vacant for nearly a year, being renovated. The new owners moved in on Friday.

This afternoon as I've been working at my desk, in front of the window overlooking my garden and the gardens on either side, I've been treated to the sight of an elderly man mowing the lawn wearing nothing but a sunhat and some flip-flops.

I'm genuinely confused about what to think. It's their garden of course. I have a teenage daughter whose bedroom window overlooks the gardens who will probably find it hilarious; dh already found it amusing until the man's wife joined him around an hour ago - you guessed it, stark naked!

It's sunny today but really cold; I dread to think what will happen in summer ...

So he's got his chopper out (to prune the trees naturally).

What about the wife? Is she trimming her bush?

katseyes7 · 15/04/2019 13:45

l've got visions of nudinits now....

MargoLovebutter · 15/04/2019 13:46

Unless you live in another country, all I can say is that they are made of stern stuff. It may have been sunny but it has been sooooooooooo cold all weekend. I went for a walk yesterday afternoon and wished I'd worn my down jacket - it was baltic!

Long-term, I imagine the novelty of watching them will wear off pretty quickly.

TheGrapefulDread · 15/04/2019 13:46

Concerned with his blatant disregard for safety can you just scope the area to see if they own a barbecue ?

cheeseypizza · 15/04/2019 13:46

😂 this reminds me of "ugly naked guy" in Friends.

cyclecamper · 15/04/2019 13:49

I wish more people spent more time naked, it would do all of us good. Make it harder for people and companies to make us insecure about perfectly average bodies.

It's all fine. it'll be good for teenagers to see normal naked people who haven't been photoshopped.

flummoxedlummox · 15/04/2019 13:50

Are you sure they're not wearing flesh coloured clothing that needs ironing? Grin

Murinae · 15/04/2019 13:50

Reminds me of my ex boss who used to invite me to go to the fkk club (the Nudist Club) he was a member of (it was in Germany). No thanks, didn’t fancy taking my clothes off in front of my boss!

stofi · 15/04/2019 13:53

Old prude here, I wouldn't be delighted. Hopefully they don't have a trampoline.

PacmansGapingMaw · 15/04/2019 13:55

Hopefully they don't have a trampoline.

OP BUY THEM A TRAMPOLINE IMMEDIATELY

Excellent introduction gift. I bet they'd be delighted!

stucknoue · 15/04/2019 14:06

Not my cup of tea but to eaches own. I'm self conscious even sunbathing topless in a non overlooked part of the garden!

BlueJava · 15/04/2019 14:10

Where are you OP - it's sunny here but freezing outside!

BlueJava · 15/04/2019 14:16

Sorry - just read you're in Kent! Yeah it's cold (my parents are also in Kent).

Illberidingshotgun · 15/04/2019 14:22

Pop round with your secateurs and tell them that you're a dab hand at trimming bushes.

Are they out today? It's lovely and sunny, but there's a stiff breeze.

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 15/04/2019 14:27

Buuut you get to say ‘ugly naked guy is in the garden mowing the lawn’ and ‘aww ugly naked guy has an ugly naked girl’

DontCallMeShitley · 15/04/2019 14:28

They may belong to Eureka, Silverleigh, or the Naturist Foundation, all in Kent. Also may enjoy the naturist beaches.

They obviously don't mind living next to 'textiles' and may well keep to themselves. If they are quiet I wouldn't care if they walked around naked on their hands, it is so noisy where I live, I would welcome some peace and quiet.

Hope he is careful with the hedge cutter though.

Thegoodthere · 15/04/2019 14:29

Who cares where they belong to? If they do they can be naked on their beaches. Not everyone wants to see some wrinkly old todger waving around over their morning coffee.

Ringsender2 · 15/04/2019 14:39

I don't believe you. It was 7-9oC in most of UK yesterday. 4oC in Northumberland. 10oC in London and Anglesey. Wind from the East, gentle to fresh breeze. No way was someone mowing naked.

Asta19 · 15/04/2019 14:44

The other man is naked except for a t-shirt

Call me uptight (I know people will) but this would cross a line for me. It's one thing the couple being naked in their garden (though I wouldn't be keen on seeing that either) but random visitors too? And before people cry out "it's not illegal" no technically it is not but there are legal steps that can be taken to put a stop to it. Especially when it's not people who even live there!

Bluntness100 · 15/04/2019 14:51

I've a naked neighbour, who likes to be naked in their front room, and people can see them as they come up the drive. They are also elderly.

People always find the thought of it very amusing, but always, always appear genuinely shocked when met unexpectedly with the vision of an eighty year old bloke with his todger out 🤣

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/04/2019 15:01

It sounds as if they’re doing it as a way of life, not for shock value or to scare you. It doesn’t sound as if you find this distressing. But you can obvs complain and get it stopped if it did.

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/04/2019 15:30

Will your teen dd find it hilarious though? Because if she saw a naked man in the street the man would be arrested for flashing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not adverse to a bit of nudity myself. I go naked on nudist beaches, i sunbathe naked in my garden. Difference is my neighbours can't see me. I wouldn't want to see my naked neighbours to be honest.

I worked with someone 20 years ago who was taken to court for being naked in his own living room. Well he actually had a dressing gown on but it wasn't done up. Local kids complained as they could see him through the window. Police arrested him. I can't 100% remember what he was charged with or if found guilty. I want to say public indecency, maybe gross indecency. He definitely went to court. So if you can be arrested for being naked in your living room it can't be legal in your garden.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 15/04/2019 16:01

I don't think this is ok in an overlooked garden. Particularly when the garden is overlooked by a child's bedroom. If he did it in his front garden in view of the street he'd be arrested.

MitziTheTabbyIsMyOverlord · 15/04/2019 16:26

My goodness. Are they 'groomed' down there?

Gonna offer to help trim her bush OP?Grin Grin Grin

Great thread!

Gramgram · 15/04/2019 16:50

They're Janet and Roy, the Christmas card people! Go and say hello.
