1000 candidates have applied for 73 seats, nearly a million pounds raised with small donations, buzz and brexitement on the ether and the sense that the 2 party system may be over for good....at last some good news for Brexiteers.

Viva la Revolucion!

YABVU. Empty vessels make the loudest noise.

@iVampire

That comment I quoted though was about a general election.

UKIP won the last EU election and I’m sure UKIP v2 will do well in this election. But people have always used EU elections as a protest. It doesn’t translate to general elections at all. I mean, look at 2017. Both labour and the conservatives got a crazy high percentage of the vote, higher than for decades. We went even towards more of a two party system than we were in before.

I’m not saying next GE you won’t get some protest votes, but 17m in a general? No.

She is obviously not used to political rally type speaking but she is the first person I have ever heard who manages to articulate the reasons why I believe we do need to leave the EU

I listened to her reasons, the centralisation of democracy in the UK is absolutely nothing to do with the EU.
It is central Govt that has robbed the regions of their power, making councils of whatever persuasion, mouth pieces of Govt policy, be it on education via academy schools, housing/planning, public health or spending cuts to public services.

If she/or you thinks leaving the EU and handing even more power to the Govt is going to improve democracy you will both be disappointed.

We want soverin-ee apart from the sort we don't like. Like UK Parliamentary soverin-ee. And the Queen is a tray-ah!
Shit like that, Nigel Farage? No thanks www.thebrexitparty.com.

Caucasianchalkcircles · 13/04/2019 09:21

I'm actually quite fearful about this. Concerning that far right wing agitator steve bannon is incredibly close to farage, mogg and boris johnson - can't believe he won't have any involvement with this new party.
Also I suspect alot of leavers who are not particularly politically knowledgable or engaged will lap it up. I had a facebook link regarding the BP and reading the 100's of comments, alot are quite happy to pay the £25 membership fee. This has fired up many politically disenchanted people, quite a few admitted they've never voted before. I think it's just so worrying.

They will be flushed down the toilet of history.

They will be flushed down the toilet of history

excellent prediction couldn't have put it better myself

DioneTheDiabolist · 13/04/2019 12:18

Our MEP ran a competition in local primary schools for a Winter festival card, Christmas couldn't be mentioned on the card (presumably in case it offended anyone.) Thatoffendedme.

Do you mean the Winter Droving Festival Cat?

longwayoff · 13/04/2019 12:19

Awful. Just what Europe needs, a bunch of right wing agitators, ELECTED if you please. History, people! That stuff about ww,2 you love so much? Read a bit more closely and be careful what you wish for.

Windowsareforcheaters · 13/04/2019 12:26

It's good that they are elected. This is an absolute positive of a PR system.

You can see who they are and you can fight them with due process. Under FPTP they present themselves as an unheard, minority and victims of the elite - sound familiar?

When they have elected representatives we see them, check their finances, debate with them, check their parliamentary records. Often these groups implode when in the public eye UKIP being a prime example.

Also, freedom of speech, if this is what people want to vote for they have a right to do so and we have a duty t listen. Listen and then laugh them down for the fools they are.

We need to welcome the debate.

Isitsixoclockalready · 13/04/2019 12:51

I think that I would feel better about the brexit process if I thought that people who want to leave the EU would take their engagement with politics forward and get passionate about issues that leaving the EU won't resolve such as the NHS, funding for schools, funding for social care, the environment and cuts to services in general but I have a suspicion that once people have purged themselves of their illogical hatred of the scapegoat called the EU, apathy will set in again.

DioneTheDiabolist · 13/04/2019 12:57

CatsinSpace why did you presume the reason for the avoidance of mentioning Christmas on the card was in case it offended anyone? Who do you think is offended by people mentioning Christmas?Confused

Hopoindown31 · 13/04/2019 13:09

Just a bunch of splitters, happens with any extreme ideological positions either left or right. It's when they start murdering each other that you have to get worried.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 13/04/2019 13:11

Well each to their own and all that.

Between Brexit and UKIP, who needs Oswald Mosley?

We need to welcome the debate.

You only need to look at this thread to see that that isn't going to happen.

Windowsareforcheaters · 13/04/2019 14:33

I think the debate is going very well.

Why not try www.thebrexitparty.comm* that is particularly fine example of engagement with the political system?

bellinisurge · 13/04/2019 14:49

What's to debate?

If you don't know the arguments by now, not much I can do. You could always take a look at www.thebrexitparty.com
