Won’t give me a reference

An employer I worked for 2 years ago won’t provide me with a reference because ‘she hasn’t seen me in 2 years.’

This woman has had many staff leave due to her management over the past 12 months. AIBU to think that’s a pathetic excuse!

Do you have a more recent employer? Maybe she doesn't really remember your work

She could confirm you worked there at the very least. She should have records of this.

She is being unreasonable, part of being an employer is providing references.

Oh I forgot to mention, this woman has known me my whole life. It’s a very small work place also.

Is she annoyed with you for some reason?

Most employers give "dates only" references nowadays. She must have records of your employment there.

I would expect a character reference to be from someone who had known you for a number of years and still knew you so they could honestly vouch for your character.

It’s not a character that wference though. It’s an employment one. She just knew me previous to the employment.
