To ask about free deed polls?

Teen DD has paid for a deed poll off a site who appear to have scammed her as it hasn't arrived and there are similar posts although the reviews.co.uk site is all good.

Aibu to think we can just do a free deed poll for her?
Does anyone have experience of using it with college/doctors/passport and banks.

Also if anyone knows if she can claim the money back somehow I would be grateful sigh .

You won’t be able to claim the money back. It will be in the small print that it’s a service charge or something, you can probably ask for it to be posted again.

You do not need to pay for a deed poll to change your name, you can draw up the documents yourself and have it witnessed. You don’t even really need to do that because you can be known by whatever name you like. I know because I’ve done it. It may be easier to draw up your docs though to get official documents such as a passport.

Also - the witness can be anyone, doesn’t have to be a solicitor or similar.
