To ask for worm help???

Both my DC have worms, I saw them in the toilet tonight, I went to the chemists and have dosed us all without ovex but I’ve auddenly realised that I didn’t change the bedsheets or give them fresh pyjamas so the eggs are probably going to get them? I plan hours of cleaning tomorrow but should I wash their duvets and pillows and soft toys? And the toys they play with in the daytime as well? Car seats covers, sofa covers? How far do I go? Help o wise ones of mumsnet?!

You should all be wearing pants in bed tonight. In the morning they should wash their bottoms.
Wash pyjamas and bedding tomorrow with a biological powder and a hot wash, ditto towels. Cut their nails short, and make them clean their fingernails.

You all need to dose again in 2 weeks time as well.

I bloody hate them- they rear their wriggly heads too often ( kids untreated at school I suspect) and I curse every time because of the sheer work it causes. You're in for a busy day tomorrow: as Penny says wash all bedding/ towels/ pyjamas in as hot a wash as they'll take; DC to wear pants to bed for 2 weeks in my opinion (until the next dose of meds); soft toys washed or in freezer for 12 hours; cut nails; wash all underwear and pyjamas for the foreseeable in a 60 degree wash ( I do it permanently as I'm paranoid). I feel for you ( it was me 3 weeks ago). Good luck.

I just change the bed and Hoover the house. Cut nails. Shower in morning. Chuck any play dough out.
It really doesn't need a full house burn down.

I don't think I even changed the bedding when one had worms. We all got wormed and repeated 2 weeks later.

Thank you so much! Makes me feel better, I had visions of crazy levels of cleaning. What a relief! Pants were done so washing and hoovering today! Fun times!

lazyface the eggs will be in the bedding, so you'll probably get reinfected. There's a 2 week.incubation so there's a possibility that eggs picked up a few days later would still be living inside the body even after the 2nd dose.

LazyFace · 19/04/2019 07:18

This was years ago, we haven't had more worms since.

stucknoue · 19/04/2019 07:20

I didn't wash bedding, but two doses is the key and pants (not boxers) 24 hours until cured

gingajewel · 19/04/2019 07:25

Another tip is too wash there bums in a morning to get rid of any eggs as the tablets kill the worms but not the eggs. Also no baths, just showers (we did for two weeks) and lastly aswell as a good clean everywhere clean pants on morning and night for a few weeks. It is horrible but easily treatable.

quaterafter1 · 19/04/2019 07:36

The first time my dc had them I went OTT on cleaning.

I washed everything on hot, hoovered everywhere including mattresses and curtains ( not sure why I hoovered the curtains!) Disinfected the kitchen and bathroom and all door handles.

Dc then got worms about 6 months later but then I just made sure they showered every morning and wore clean clothes/ underwear and no sharing towels.

It's horrible but easily treatable.

Yes literally wash everything you can think of. I also anti bac door handles and anything they touch, toys etc .

I have been left traumatised by thread worms and I now worm all my children at the same time as the dog. I'm not joking Grin
