To think pavement parking should be banned

There's a government inquiry into pavement parking, you can submit comments here

www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/transport-committee/inquiries/parliament-2017/pavement-parking-17-19/

I absolutely hate pavement parking - it's someone thinking their car not being scratched is more important than me and DD's lives. I live in an area of terraced streets and especially on bin days, you basically can't go out with a pram because it's so bad.

Anyone else want to comment for the inquiry? Maybe mumsnet could submit something on behalf of lots of people?

Driving on the pavement is illegal and by definition if you are parked on the pavement, you have driven on it.

As many people have already said, lots of councils TELL you to park on the pavement. People aren't breaking the law when they're doing what their council is asking them to do!

Lol - councils tell their education departments, social services and schools to break the law ALL the time - although, they don’t couch it in those terms; rather they tell their staff, schools, the NHS, etc

“It’s our policy to....”

Hullo. I am a town councillor in a small Shropshire town (Bishops Castle). I want to start a “considerate parking” campaign as I feel very strongly that pavement parking is both anti social and dangerous, particularly for people with buggies/ pushchairs, as well as for people in wheelchairs and with other disabilities. Does Mumsnet have any kind of policy or view about this issue please? Thanks

Not sure if MN does, but I do. Put a stop to it please!

I think that until we start to treat having a car as a privilege, which would mean about 25% or more of current drivers losing their licence (some medical, some because of conduct [usually men with insecurities about their manhood]), a total ban will be difficult to achieve given road space and narrow streets.

No government is going to do this. A ban in certain places might be achievable though.

Mil lives on a long street with 1 entrance. If cats don’t pull up with two wheels on the pavement then emergency vehicles aren’t getting through. I wouldn’t want to live at the top of that street in an emergency. A while ago paramedics had to abandon the ambulance At the bottom of the street and continue on foot to get to a stroke patient.
