To not really get the point of reunions?

Every now and again I hear about reunions for primary/secondary schools - AIBU to not be interested?

In the days of Facebook etc you can reconnect with people you like & find out what they're up to without having a huge party of people - some of whom you were never friends with in the first place.

I've also found it a bit odd that most of the people (ime) who organise these things are still living in the same area - surely they see each other already?

I know it's not a summons, but am I just being grumpy and antisocial? I'm starting to think I must be...

I never go. I didn't like the people from my school when I was there, so why would I want to socialise now?

I've never been. I've always assumed the purposes would be to be gleeful that you're doing better in life than the arsehole bullies, and then try and pull your teenage crush(es).

I’ve never bothered. I’ve kept in touch with the people I liked at school and have no desire to see anyone else.

Unfortunately you often find that the high school bullies are doing quite well as many of them have some of the sociopathic tendencies required to get to the top.

Not saying that every one who achieves is like that.

Not for me, those kind of things.
I hated school and almost everyone in it.
I don't care how they're doing.

YANBU to decide that it's not for you and decline, but it doesn't take much imagination to understand that some people remember their school days fondly and would love to catch up with old friends in person, reminisce in a way you don't really on social media and be reacquainted with people they have lost touch with.

IME they are usually organised by a group of friends who have stayed in the home town and still keep in touch.

I didn't attend our last one but other friends did and had a great time, even a few old teachers there.

I (re)met my now dh at a mini school reunion that our mutual friend had organised so I think YABU!

I agree. I've never been to a reunion as such, but I remember when 'Friends Reunited' came along. I was quite excited to contact a few old school friends, but all that happened was that we exchanged a couple of emails saying what we were doing now, and then contact dropped off. There was nothing more to say. Our friendships had been based on being at the same school at the same time and not much else. Retrospectively, I realised that if we'd had more in common we probably would have stayed in touch anyway.

Someone organised on every single year for our school year. Why? I really don't see the point. I went once for a significant year and it was grim.

I wouldn't go to a reunion but I'd love it if they made a book or something for us turning 30. Just like a half page on what each person is up to now. Every now and again I remember someone and think "hhmm what happened to them?" Lots of people aren't on SM and some of the women will have changed their surnames so harder to find.

I Must be an exception then.

We had a high school reunion about 15 years ago and i was asked to help organise it. We had a great night catching up with everyone. Food, drinks and dancing to all the hits of the time we were in high school together whats not to like? Nobody was 'showing off' just chatting about school times and life now.

Kept in touch with some for years afterwards.

Its not a summons no, you dont have to hang out with anyone you didnt like, but you never know you might have a ball.

Don't go than ? like you said you are not forced to go some people enjoy them ,and just because some people have no desire to move away from the the town they were brought up.in that doesn't make you any better than them Horses ,for courses etc .

And why would you see people all the time just because you still.live in the same town? My dh lives in the same town he was brought up.in ,in a different area ,it's a large town ,he never sees people he went to school with.

Unfortunately, the blind, community“, tend to know one each other and many of us still talk to our classmates from many many years ago, even though we have nothing in common sometimes. I had to say goodbye to some “friends“ last week because they just don’t have any respect for me or for what I do and I don’t have time anymore or the energy to put up with it. I have never been to a reunion by the way I have some classmates, and some friends who I would absolutely love to see who I haven’t seen in a very long time, and who I still talk to and we get along very well. But other people? No way.
