Baby bath?

Do I need one if I don't have a bath? Or will a sink or washing up bowl do (very well cleaned obviously)

AIBU to think it's an unnecessary piece of equipment and that, actually, a top and tail does for most washes anyway? And a sink or bowl will do the job otherwise?

I never used it with my daughter. She bathed with me, OH, or with our hands under her head, occasionally in the sink. I'm having twins this time so I think I will get two just for convenience and not enough space and hands over our bath but I never struggled without with my DD x

The problem will be when they are too old for a sink and too young for a shower. DD was enormous so there was a big gap.

We’ve never used one but did have a baby seat in the actual bath. If you haven’t got a bath then yes I guess the sink will suffice until the baby is too big.

We used one for the first 9-10 weeks. We used it on the draining board. It had a plug in the bottom (so it could be drained directly into the sink without having to tip it) and it had a built in back support and bumstop which made holding a slippery wiggly newborn a lot easier, especially when bathing him solo as it only took one hand to hold leaving one free to wash.

Alternatively one of the angelcare bath seats in a shower could work if your bathroom is relatively warm

you could manage without, but I found it useful when they were 0-6 months as they could be completely propped up in the bath, they are very slippery little things!

I have a baby bath, used it with dd1 until she was too big. DD2 is now 10m and I've used it maybe 5 times. Sinks baths all the way here! Do much better for my back

We had one of those tummy tub things for the first few months (eBay bargin) and then the kitchen sink because we only had a shower which dd hated/hates. Bonus is it’s much easier on your back.”

We moved around the time she was getting too big but you can get collapsible baths that sit in the shower tray.

We still use ours for Dd who is 2. She is scared of the shower and enjoys having a splash in the bath. I dream of having an actual fullsize bath as storing the baby bath it is a pain!

I had one of those overpriced bucket tubs with one of my DC.
He had silent reflux and it was a life saver. It was probably the only awake time that he didn’t spend crying until he was a few months old!
A washing up bowl or bucket would do.

We have a blow up bath. It’s been a godsend. It can fit a 2 and 4 year old in together (we put it in the shower tray)
We also take it on holiday when there is only a shower and you can fly with it and inflate it when you get there.

My DD went in the shower with DH from a few weeks old and always seemed to prefer it to the bath!

We had a seat the first time round but have bought a bucket tub the second one as I was conscious of the amount of water we were using.

Maybe wait and see.
Ours hated the bath/sink on their own to begin with and had to go in the bath with me or DH anyway.

I bought a separate washing up bowl when DD was a baby to wash her in then when she was bigger I just used the bath

I used a Shnuggle bath with DS, it was brilliant and he loved it too! You don't have to hold them in position so you can have your hands free to get soap, towel etc

You can stand in the shower with them from as soon as you feel confident.

I use mine for now 10 week old but yes you are right a sink bath and then any large bucket thing will do. When they are older a bath seat in the actual bath will do

If you don't have an actual bath you need a baby bath.

Get a baby bath, fill it n sit it in the shower if you can.

Mines is tiny and my baby has bad reflux, so baby bath definitely needed!
It's not much work filling and bringing through to the living room

If you don't have a bath you need one.

Holding a naked baby in the shower is hard, they are so slippery! And then they can't play with any toys as they get a bit older.

My in-laws have got an inflatable bath that fits in the shower cubicle - lasts longer than just a few months before baby grows out of it and packs small for storage.
