DP or me being unreasonable?

DP and I were going to do the weekly shop today. He said something about liking my cooking better than his own so I should cook but he was joking and then said let’s take turns. I said that for next week mom - fri he should cook but he thinks I’m being unreasonable.

His point: why should he cook every day, ‘he doesn’t like doing it’ (any other day he enjoys cooking so this is a lie), he thinks we should take fair turns.

My point: he finished all next week at 4pm and is home by half 4. I’m home at 6.30pm and have my lunch at 11.30(I don’t choose this) so by half 6 I’ll be really hungry and think it’s only fair that he cooks because he’ll be home earlier and I dont want to come in and cook straight away so we’d end up eating really late.

WIBU??

What time do people get home from work to have dinner on the table for five/five thirty? Even when I'm working from my office I don't leave until at least then, and then have 40-60 minutes minimum to get home. Most people I know don't get home until 6:30/7!

If he’s home early that week it would be sensible for him to do the cooking. It’s not as if you’re asking him to do it forever.
For the op who said 6.30 pm is early to eat without young kids, tea time is 5-6 pm here more often than not and kids are far from young.

Zippy my dh finishes at 5 and is home by 5.15 as a general rule.

Another one here who likes to eat before 6.30 and I don't have kids.

Oysterbabe · 06/04/2019 20:44

We eat at 6:30 because my kids are 1 and 3. Before kids we'd eat at about 8.

No young children to feed in this house.

Dp works until after 11pm so we eat our main meal separately.

I eat at around 6 definitely (if I'm home in time) by 7.

In your circumstances I don't see why he can't cook this week, it's not like your asking him to do this everyday forever, just this week because he's home earlier.

I’m with your DH, I think you should take it in turns - unless you cooked every day last week.
