AIBU- to ask if you work from home, what do you do?

As per the title really, if you work from home, what job do you do please?

As a bit of background, I worked in customer services for a tech company. I’m currently on maternity with my 8 week old son and have just found out I’ve been made redundant.

I’m not due off maternity until October, so have some time to look into possible career choices.

I work from home for some of the week, I work in marketing.

With a customer service background you might be able to sign up to one of the virtual PA companies? Would require some admin work as well though I imagine.

I am a writer and DH is a freelance journalist. Neither of us could go back to being full time employees now!

When you say marketing what does that involve? Many people say that and i still dont know what ut is

I'm an author. Also running a (small) rental business.

I work in marketing too and work from home part of the week. Unless you run your own business I doubt there are many jobs which are 100% work from home.

I'm an editor and proofreader. And before anyone says it, yes, you need training, and, no, it's not a job that anyone can do if they can spot typos.

I work from home after school around the kids' activities. I'm a writer for a government department.

I run my own aviation business. I do all the admin stuff from my Shedquarters.

Thatsashame, yes as poster says above that’s what it essentially means.

Day to day it can be things like writing and creating emails, online advertising (those ads that pop up at the top of google), writing blog posts, creating and tweaking website pages so they appear at the top of search results and then analysing a load of data to see what works and what doesn’t. Depends what area you go into!

I could work from home the whole week (employed) but I choose not to, but yes it probably is rare for any full time employment to be entirely home based. Lots of sites now for freelancers like fiverr and people per hour, not just for marketing if you were thinking of self-employed.

I now work outside the home, but when my children were small I did marking for students taking an online course.

Childminding, works for us because I can look after my kids at the same time, only problem is the pay is unreliable at times (don't live in a very big place) full atm which is good but I do spend quite a bit on activities for the kids because I don't ask for money from parents for them. (My kids are at school)

I work in different places (site visits, training, etc) but do all my "office" work at home.

However, I couldn't do it if there was a baby in the house.

@Sculpin can I ask - did you have teaching experience?

I have a few jobs related to online tutoring. For one of the jobs, teaching experience is not required, but you must evidence professional competence in the field related to the vocational are the students study.

For the other jobs, which involve delivery as well as assessment, a teaching qualification is required.

I have also worked for a research company, which involved making calls to people and completing short, online questionnaires.

I have been surprised at the number of home working opportunities that are available now.

@bodgersmash No I didn’t have a teaching qualification, but I did have a qualification in the relevant subject. Check the BPP website and see if there’s anything that matches your skills.
