As per the title really, if you work from home, what job do you do please?

As a bit of background, I worked in customer services for a tech company. I’m currently on maternity with my 8 week old son and have just found out I’ve been made redundant.

I’m not due off maternity until October, so have some time to look into possible career choices.

Thanks in advance!

I work in HR, 4 days a week from home usually. One day in the office to see people!

I'm a p/t manager for a tiny nonprofit. I do the admin and IT and whatever else crops up.

I have a mix of work from home, office, meetings. Plus am part time. It took a degree and 10 years experience to get to that stage, current recruits have at least 2 degrees.

I always had childcare when kids were preschool age, even when working at home. My work is flexible, but I can't do conference calls while sorting a toddler. Now the kids are older though, I don't have childcare when i work from home. I just go out to the school run, then handle the rest round them.

Op, working from home with a baby or toddler can be difficult. I can see it working for a very flexible role, but is not easy if you work to tight deadlines and have client contact on phone, Skype etc.

My last job I was a learning and development manager, so when not delivery training- management, risk assessment, health and safety etc, I worked from home. So I’d say about 50% of my time. However when working from home, I still had someone to mind my child. Not good being on a conference call of 25 managers and a little voice saying ‘Mummy I need a poo now! It’s coming out!’Blush I still cringe (and blame MIL for letting him come in to me)

@supadupapupascupa out of interest how do you go about being a cloud based mgmt accountant?

StubbleTurnips · 07/04/2019 22:28

I work for a huge MNO that shut my office down, and made me a homeworker. I work in flood planning.

supadupapupascupa · 07/04/2019 22:29

I'm a qualified accountant working for a company that uses cloud based software. This means I can work from anywhere. It wasn't my intention for this to happen but many book keepers I would say work this way. If you are interested I would talk to employment agencies. All of my positions pretty much have been found through agencies.

Full time, self employed b2b marketer and copywriter. I have four nice clients on the go at the moment. I have done this for 14 years. While i used to work on a laptop under my stairs, i now have a lovely office at the front of my house with a double screen monitor, white board and filing unit! I have come such a long way lol!

Thanks everyone. This is great food for thought!

Just trying to weigh up options with regards to part time/WFH opportunities and roles.

Prior to my current role I worked as a wildlife rehabilitator, and my education and training is all around veterinary science. However, you can’t run animals ‘off’ at the end of the day, it’s always many hours with little pay. Although a very rewarding job in other ways.

I work as a call agent just taking calls from clients.
I have managed to start it straight away. They give you your first client too which really helped me. It may be of interest to you as they handle absolutely everything to get started and on going. www.callagentsuk.co.uk/call-agents-franchise/
I hope this helps.
