Fire escape plan..

Following on from a thread I've just seen but dont want to derail. How would we escape our house if it was on fire and we were in bed? I think our best option is get on the bed and out of the velux window onto the roof?

The kitchen window only opens 8 inches, the windows in the rooms on the first floor are small top opening only ones. So if we went downstairs and the kitchen was the source of the fire we'd have to go past it to go into the front room and out the front door or down another flight of stairs into the basement / dining room and out into the garden.

Fire escape plan..

Your local fire brigade will be happy to come and advise. It's free and a really good servi they also install any smoke alarms etc. Great advice

You need a window smasher next to your bed like you can buy for in your car. I have one in the car actually since I read the story about the family trapped in a car and they all drowned when their car ended up in the sea because they couldn't get any windows or doors open.

I don't think any firefighters would advise you to escape a fire through a velux window and onto your roof.

As I said on the other post, make sure you test smoke alarms weekly and that you keep the way to your exits clear from clutter.
