If we had a general election now, I’d be stuck.

I normally vote labour, even last time.

I voted leave, would do again.

Any1 else in my situation? I honestly couldn’t vote labour right now, and I have never voted tory. Unless they dramatically changed as a party I don’t think I ever could

I as thinking this the other day - if there is a general election I don't see how I can vote. And I always vote, always.I don't want to give any kind of mandate to any of the possibilities.
I'm a remainer.
But,InspirationUnavailable,I completely agree with this:"If there was an election and any party featured electoral reform in their manifesto they would be guaranteed my vote. I am fed up of not having my voice heard. If we had proportional representation and proper coalition politics we wouldn’t currently be dealing with the brexit fuckwittery that we are as it would be less about party politics and more about the good of the country."
I've been hoping for that my entire voting life though, and I don't think it'll happen - Tories and Labour have too much to lose.
Yay for democracy. And yay for being the laughing stock of Europe Confused

stillpinching · 05/04/2019 21:15

Weird all the leave voters here saying they couldn't possibly vote Tory or Labour. No idea why a leave voter couldn't vote Tory. And why do so many people say they cant vote for either of the big 2 but won't vote anything else as it would be a waste. Yes we have a fptp system, but it's still worth voting for the party that you actually want if it's not one of the big 2. If enough people do it they do sit up a bit and it can have a bit of an influence on policies (like the referendum - Tories scared of UKIP). Whereas if you just stay home that says nothing.

As for the poster who blamed Blair and Balls for the disaster in the NHS and schools when Labour have been out of power for nearly a decade...Hmm.

FWIW voter apathy is at such a level that well over 50% of Local Authorities' 2nd May results are already in
because they were uncontested Angry

TalkinPaece · 05/04/2019 21:23

PPPS
My MP is fine, but Ioathe their party leader - makes it tricky

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/04/2019 21:25

i don't think there is any such thing as a safe seat any more and labour will get absolutely decimated in the next election

That was supposed to happen in the last one!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/04/2019 21:28

le,I completely agree with this:"If there was an election and any party featured electoral reform in their manifesto they would be guaranteed my vote. I am fed up of not having my voice heard. I missed this earlier but i agree completely

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/04/2019 21:28

Oh plopsy

Bold fail

RHTawneyonabus · 05/04/2019 21:37

I desperately want to remain, but none of the main parties offer that so I can’t vote for them. Lib Dems seem like a wasted vote.

Can’t believe anyone still wants to leave give the horrific cost but hey ho, don’t think we’ll agree on that one.

Essexgirlupnorth · 05/04/2019 21:44

I actually like my current labour MP so would vote for her again. Couldn't vote Tory have voted Lib Dem in the past but don't seem to always stand where I live.

What we need is proportional representation.

mozzrules · 05/04/2019 21:55

I felt the same. I have always voted Labour and was feeling that I couldn't vote for them again with Corbyn as leader, so was delighted when my MP left to join TIG as will very happily vote for him again now when the time comes.

Beccatheboo · 05/04/2019 21:57

Bloody lost my carefully-thought-out message! Basically we’re buggered. Gone is the party politics system with no alternative. We can’t suddenly magic up representatives who can please everyone. The government is obsolete, which is ironic in the current situation, with our future in their sweaty hands. I quite like our MP, who has played a part in helping our area. But she also blindly toes the party line. It would be great to take devolution to the max and make all decisions on a local level, although I know that wouldn’t work in practice, as laws affect us all. Is there a minimum number of votes for a general election to be valid? OP, as the majority of population feel the way you do, let’s just all spoil our ballot papers and say bugger them all! MPs simply cannot run our country. Globalism is now too entrenched. From a country that other countries aspired to be, we’re now a fine example of anarchy in action. Headless chickens with no more eggs to lay.

NorthernGravy · 05/04/2019 21:58

The problem I have with PR is that means I have to accept that Nigel Farage and scum like Tommy Robinson would stand a chance of being in parliament.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 05/04/2019 22:10

I'm a politically homeless refugee too.

I live in a safe Tory constituency and voted LD last time as an anti-Tory vote.

This time, I won't vote for the LDs because they don't believe in women of the adult female variety.

My best hope is a new, credible, un-anti Semitic labour leader.

NowtSalamander · 05/04/2019 22:12

I wish Justine would start a Mumsnet Party. I’d vote for that. Red could sort out Brexit, we’d have proper woman-centred policies, and the manifesto would be full of swearing.

Fiveredbricks · 05/04/2019 22:16

I am a poor person @TheFatberg and I fucking HATE Labour. Momentum are a disgrace and Jeremy Corbyn is literally using their 'momentum' to get to the top. My only hope is he will weed them out and politically drown the disgusting excuses for people, if he ever gets the top job.

When the Tories are the closest we've gor to a bloody centrist party then those who support Labour really need to look at what they're voting for!

Neo left wing socialist liberalism is NOT a good thing. It's fucking terrifying. Moreso than any Tory government I've ever seen or heard or witnessed.

magimedi · 05/04/2019 22:26

I've reported your post - in hope that Justine/MNHQ might listen.

Given the dross that we have to vote for now - this looks like a good alternative!

EngTech · 05/04/2019 22:32

I think it boils down to trust in our political system

MP’s are making a dogs dinner of the process of Brexit at present, whichever way you voted

If we have a second referendum, so be it.

Come the GE, if the result is wrong, can we have another GE or have the best of 3?

What is the wrong result? Depends on if your party you voted for did not get the keys to No. 10

The next GE is going to be very interesting

I plan to vote but put an extra box I.e. None of the above.

At least I can say I carried out my civic democratic duty, but did not trust any of the potential candidates to do a good job.

I have put my cats on standby as I feel they could do a better job than the current or future cadre of politicians i.e. My trust in the political system is non existent

TalkinPaece · 05/04/2019 22:32

@northerngravy

Yup
I am completely chilled with that
for two reasons
(a) a lot of the votes for those parties are "protests" in constituencies where folks know it will not count ....would they vote the same if it did
(b) UKIP and beyond have won many seats in Local Council elections and shown themselves up to be a shower of shit

so actually getting elected once will turn them into a busted flush forever
perfect

whiteroseredrose · 05/04/2019 22:48

Interesting that we're all homeless for different reasons.

I voted remain and would still do so. DH tells me how undemocratic Europe is, and I believe him, but I like being able to get around Europe easily and not pay mobile roaming charges!

Stopped voting Labour donkey's years ago as Blair and Brown played fast and loose with the economy. I then switched between Lib Dem's and Green for a few years but now their definition of women concerns me so they're out. Tories are too pro hunting which is a big no no.

So what is left? .....

MatthewBramble · 05/04/2019 22:57

Our constituency voted "remain" in a big way. Our Tory MP has followed the party line and voted for Brexit - in spite of the people who sent him there not wanting it. Labour do well here to hold their deposit and the Lib Dems areout following Clegg's sell-out to the Tories. I think the next election will see me holding my nose and voting for the party I dislike least.

Nnnnnineteen · 05/04/2019 23:01

I too am politically homeless and have been since I was eligible to vote. So nearly 30 years of politics that do not have meaning to me.

Tillygetsit · 05/04/2019 23:02

I voted remain and have been staunch Labour all my voting life. I cant vote for them now as they have lost all credibility. Would NEVER vote Tory. Lib Dems seem to blow with the wind. UKIP are horrendous and the new lot a bunch of power hungry snakes. I strongly believe that women especially should vote but as I am also politically homeless I think I'd spoil my paper by scrawling Unacceptable across it.

TalkinPaece · 05/04/2019 23:21

Why I cannot vote for :
Tories : austerity
Labour : Corbyn
LibDems : women do not have testicles
Greens : look forwards not sideways
UKIP : racists
so then what ?

CoachBombay · 05/04/2019 23:38

So like many I feel the same and am struggling to figure out who I would vote for. I'm a moderate voter and have actually only voted in 2 GE's (due to my age, late twenties). The first I voted for Lib Dem = coalition government in the end
Second = Plaid Cymru, Tories won.

And today I find myself unsure again.

Tories, no, austerity + referendum has killed that one off for a while.

Labour, no. Just can't stand Jeremy Corbyn.

Plaid, no. They are pushing for a independent Wales more than ever, and I don't want that.

Greens, no. Biology matters and is a "real" thing.

UKIP, fuck no.

However I did stumble upon the Democratic Veterans Party in the early hours of last night/this morning whilst watching the Newport by election, and they may have peaked my interest, but I would need to know more about them before I voted.

It would be wasted, as Wales is a Labour stronghold, but at least I can't be blamed for the mess. 🤷
