Just that really, and they also believe NASA is fake and man didn't really land on the moon. It's like they don't believe anything. Shock

^He claims that it's all faked and false science or that the aliens did it
Honestly it really doesn't make any sense, though that because I'm too dumb to understand it all.^

😂😂😂😂

Alaskan I'll give you the answer to your 'do you fall off?' question, and that is 'no'.

My DD figured this out when she was 5 after watching some sort of science program aimed at debunking myths about the solar system. She said 'why would you fall off the edge?' Down is caused by gravity, it would pull you to the centre of the disk, not off the edge'.

To be honest I don't think this is the rational typically used, because in order to believe the earth is flat you also need to assume that gravity is a hoax too. Otherwise you end up having to explain why the acceleration due to gravity is the same everywhere on the disk, when it wouldn't be under any reasonable model of gravity.

I think a more pressing question is if you stick a meter ruler in the ground and measure the length of the shadow at some specified time, why is it different in say Rome and London. That and why do ships emerge over the horizon....

M3lon · 04/04/2019 16:46

or given mrsPears map, how do you light half the disk up while the other half is in darkness?

Eliza9919 · 04/04/2019 16:47

From what I've seen though, with only half an eye & ear, the flight paths seem to support that map.

MeredithGrey1 · 04/04/2019 16:53

What I've never understood about people who believe this (and maybe someone can enlighten me), is why?

Not what "evidence" they have that the earth is flat, but why they think anyone (NASA, astronauts, pilots etc.) would lie about it. I'm guessing they think "the powers that be" control this and maintain the "lie" that the earth is flat, but why would they do that? What gain is there to having us all thinking the earth is round not flat? Most conspiracy theories have a fairly obvious reason behind them - even if you think the logic is ridiculous, it is at least a reason, and its normally money. Am I missing an obvious one with flat-earthers?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 04/04/2019 16:54

I'm not set on the moon landings.

I can't get phone signal in my garden. But the President has no issues phoning the moon. Also, you can see the strings making blokey bounce.

Also, they have the technology to do tyat but the self-service thingy at my local Tesco freaked out over eggs yesterday.

So, I just don't know.

Also there's the whole theory about Stanley Kubrick putting the Shining kid in a rocket sweater as an admittance/apology for directing the moon landings and lying about it. And I do love a conspiracy theory.

RustyBear · 04/04/2019 16:54

Even the Flat Earth Society has difficulty with the concept...

To be amazed that some people actually believe the earth is flat.
Jebuschristchocolatebar · 04/04/2019 16:56

Meredithgrey1 obviously you are not smart enough to understand it all or the chemtrails have got to you. Did you know putting fluoride in drinkin water is a form of mind control by governments.

origamiunicorn · 04/04/2019 17:00

I just want to know if they think the moon and other planets are flat discs hanging in the sky too and why we are horizontal but all other planets seem to be vertical and 'face-on' if that makes sense. I mean, what are the chances? Grin

M3lon · 04/04/2019 17:01

well I've just read the FAQ sheet on the flat earth society webpage.

All I can really suggest is that at some point one of their members tries to make an actual model of their disk plus sun plus moon set up because they will not in any sense be able to reproduce what their 'simulation' shows. For one thing the light of the sun hits the moon....but not in their model...oh no.

JaneJeffer · 04/04/2019 17:01

The flat earthers are going on an expidition to find the edge.

M3lon · 04/04/2019 17:01

ori I think you have to assume we are the only disk...because there is no other way to explain the crescent moon....

JaneJeffer · 04/04/2019 17:04

*expedetion

IStillMissBlockbuster · 04/04/2019 17:04

The Netflix documentary is brilliant, it is called "Behind the curve" I think

JaneJeffer · 04/04/2019 17:05

Oh ffs EXPEDITION BlushAngry

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/04/2019 17:06

I’ve been waiting for an excuse to post this!

To be amazed that some people actually believe the earth is flat.
BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/04/2019 17:06

Oh the pic has disappeared Hmm

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/04/2019 17:07

And now it’s appeared Blush

Sweetlittlepug · 04/04/2019 17:08

One of the things they claim proves their point is, “why does the sun not send a beam of light through space”. I did read the reason why but I’ve forgotten it now.

OP posts:
Sforsh49 · 04/04/2019 17:10

@Sweetlittlepug who is it you've been watching? I wouldn't mind a look too!!

SwearyInn · 04/04/2019 17:12

Flat earth solar eclipses are always spectacular - and irrefutable evidence.

To be amazed that some people actually believe the earth is flat.
clairemcnam · 04/04/2019 17:18

The Flat Earth Society at University was just a drinking club, they cheerfully said that the idea the earth was flat was bollocks.

I know someone who actually believes the earth is flat.

M3lon · 04/04/2019 17:21

what is this about beams of light from the sun?

What do they mean why doesn't the sun emit a beam? It emits light in all directions...they are the ones that need a reason for a beam so it doesn't light up the whole disk at once...

Its like being drawn into a discussion on how homeopathy works when the real question is why people think it works at all....(hint - it doesn't).

M3lon · 04/04/2019 17:22

sweary quite apart from that, what is the source of luna eclipses at all?
