To stick the kids clothes in the f***king dryer??

We have 2 kids, 1 and 3, who generate a lot of washing. We also have a washer dryer.

DP infuriatingly insists on taking out the kids clothes from the wash and hanging them up to dry. Every. Single. Day.

Believes that the washer dryer will shrink the clothes.

Creates a ton of extra work for us that I reckon is not needed.

I don’t have the energy to argue about it but DP constantly moans about the never ending washloads and yet doesn’t see the martyrdom!

AIBU to stick the bastard clothes in the dry cycle or will they really all shrink to nothing???

My dryer doesn’t shrink anything, so far, and electric bills aren’t much different. But I have a separate machine with a heat pump which doesn’t get as hot as traditional dryers so it’s economical too. Wish we had one when the kids were small.

I'm with your DH, drying shrinks things and stretches them out of shape. Elastic gets crunchy. Much better to line dry. We also have 4 airers in the spare room for drying on wet days, we close the door and run a dehumidifier and they're dry within 8 hours.

I put everything in the dryer unless it is super delicate or has a high elastane percentage. Literally never had anything ruined or shrunk. If I tried to line dry clothes over winter they could take a week haha.

We don't own a dryer and dry everything on either the line or the clothes horse, every now and again we think about it but don't want to pay to run it when we can dry it for free.

If he's the one actually doing it I can't see why it bothers you anyway? I also don't see it as much more work, it takes a few minutes of active hanging/bringing in time and you can even fold as you bring them in to save wrinkles if you are so inclined.

I dry clothes inside in the winter and outside in the summer. We have a very warm utility room so this obviously helps.

I think on balance I’m being unreasonable then! Good to know... I shall get over myself and support the constant line drying.

Someone upthread asked me what if DP is controlling. The answer is no, just has some obsessive tendencies on occasion. I’m the messier one but then I also would prefer to spend the limited free time we have not doing chores.... DP is the opposite!

If he wants to hang them up then let him hang them up. Tumble dryers use a lot of energy. That’s why I don’t dry out clothes. Fortunately my husband does most of the hanging up to dry.
