I'm 99.9% certain this never contained palm oil. Yet now it does? What the eff and geoff is wrong with having PEANUT OIL in Peanut butter?!

Other than the fact they can obviously replace it with bloody Palm Oil and sell the peanut oil on for a profit 🙄

Didn't it used to just be peanuts in it? Wasn't that their whole marketing strategy?

Now to get palm oil free Peanut Butter I have to pay £5 for a jar the size of a small Marmite pot 😭

Yeah.. eat almonds and you're helping kill bees, kill salmon, cause huge problems to infrastructure... It's really bad. I think the word 'dire' has been used to describe the ecological affects of the almond industry

oatmilk4breakfast · 03/04/2019 22:06

Pip n nut sometimes on offer

Fiveredbricks · 03/04/2019 22:09

To repeat for those who haven't rtfft... Not arsed about it being all that sustainable.

I'm arsed about ingesting it. And it tastes fucking rank and ruins everything.

I’ve read the fucking thread, OP and funnily enough you’re not the only person commenting on it and there are different issues being aired.

But I’ll leave you to your angry little rant to yourself.

BadPennyNoBiscuit · 03/04/2019 22:14

WTF is ecological about shipping edible oil around the world when we can grow canola and sunflower oil right here?

ShivD · 03/04/2019 22:17

Pics is the best ever.

Pip and nut crunchy is my second favourite.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 03/04/2019 22:20

I'm pretty sure the aldi one is 100pc peanuts only and they do it in massive tubs

Fiveredbricks · 03/04/2019 22:22

@WeepingWillowWeepingWino chip on your shoulder, lovely? Because that wasn't aimed at you Hmm

As others have said, it’s dead easy to make. Just roasted peanuts whizzed together. You can add a drop of peanut oil / salt / sugar if you want.

BlueSkiesLies · 03/04/2019 22:48

Dead easy to make, but can you buy peanuts cheaper than you can buy peanut butter? I didn’t find I could.

minipie · 03/04/2019 22:52

Anyone mentioned Biona? Not cheap, but 100% peanuts and a little salt

EffYouSeeKaye · 03/04/2019 23:02

BlueSkies - I buy unsalted peanuts for a bit under 70p / 100g in the supermarket but you can get salted for much less.

I think organic peanut butter is cheaper to buy than make though.

OwlinaTree · 03/04/2019 23:12

Came on to recommend Morrisons but others have beaten me to it. It's lush though. groceries.morrisons.com/webshop/product/Morrisons-100-Smooth-Peanut-Butter/347345011

Harebel · 03/04/2019 23:33

For all those who think a £1.50 jar of Tesco peanut butter contains just pure peanuts and nothing else, think again. Food labelling laws mean that some things do not need to be listed.

Please can the Pics lovers let me know what is so good about it compared to other PBs? Thanks.

Korvalscat · 03/04/2019 23:43

Harebel I wasn't aware of that. What sort of ingredients are exempt please?

BlackPrism · 03/04/2019 23:58

I checked this about 18mo ago and it had palm oil then I think. Only ones that didn't were meridian and Sun Pat

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2019 08:05

. Only ones that didn't were meridian and Sun Pat

Also many other whole food and body building brands; Suma, Biona, Pip and Nut. We like this one from Amazon:

This stuff is the dogs doodahs - ilovepeanutbutter.com/ but they don’t sell here anymore.

I’m off to email them again...

Harebel · 04/04/2019 08:24

@Korvalscat it's the fact that some things are classed as "processing aids" and so do not have to be listed as an additive on the ingredients list. There are so many to mention.

Eg "fresh" cut fruit in supermarkets looks healthy and like it's only contained fruit? Well it's been sprayed with an acid bath to prolong its shelf life. Oil is treated so that it lasts longer but it's not shown on the label so can easily lead the consumer to think the product is natural and contains only that on the label rather than having been through a complex process to get it that way using additives.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 04/04/2019 15:01

@Fiveredbricks - I don't like the taste of Whole Earth Peanut butterer either (but then again, I don't particularly like peanut butter unless it's got sugar added to it.) But I agree @WeepingWillow - there are other issues to discuss. And I think it's DISGUSTING when people say they don't care about how sustainable their foods are. FFS.

feelingverylazytoday · 04/04/2019 15:13

Buy your own peanuts and make your own. It takes 2 minutes in a blender.
I use the basic salted peanuts that are roasted in rape oil because I love the saltiness, but you can buy raw peanuts, shove them in the oven for a few minutes and add your own choice of oil and seasoning. Grind them up in a blender until it goes gooey.
Works with other nuts as well.

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2019 16:30

I used to make my own peanut butter, but I gave up the second time I burnt out a blender.

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 05/04/2019 18:46

Got a jar of Morrison’s own brand 100% peanut butter today. £1.78

BlueCornishPixie · 05/04/2019 18:50

Whole earth peanut butter has always contained palm oil. Ever since I was a child so a good 20 years!

It's supposedly sustainable

BlueCornishPixie · 05/04/2019 18:52

If you have been eating whole earth peanut butter you have been ingesting palm oil for years
