Was told off for "not caring about environment enough"

I forgot my coffee thermos so I ordered coffee to go in a takeaway cup. It's vegware so it's fine.

However, an acquaintance of mine, doesn't agree.
She told me off right there in a queue for apparently not caring about environment enough since I am fine with using single use cups and I should REALLY not forget my thermos next time...

Now get ready for the funny part.
She just had artificial grass layed because she "really hates mowing the lawn" 😂

Would IBU to start a fake email address [email protected] and send her pics of fake lawns with message "Do YOU care about the environment?" every day for as long as I live?

Some people really feel special 'doing their bit' and shouting it from the rooftops

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 03/04/2019 19:50

I was once 'told off' by a woman in a campground bathroom. She said 'did your mother not teach you to turn the tap off when you brush your teeth?'

"No" i said. Cheeky bitch.

We were in a Canadian rainforest and it was pissing down. I was 30 Grin

I agree with tor818. How bloody rude to talk to you like that.

The jokey message idea apart I'd forget my thermos again when she's around and dare her to start lecturing you about your cup.

I think a lot of people are like this, they jump on some fashionable bandwagon and get all self righteous but meanwhile don't look at what's happening with their own behaviour.

I keep forgetting my reusable cup so I end up buying a new one when I’m out, I’ve got 7 reusable cups now which might defeat the object of reusable cups misses point of thread

ILoveMaxiBondi · 03/04/2019 20:01

I’d have looked her dead in the eye and ordered a second coffee in a single use cup.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 03/04/2019 20:09

I just turned around, got my coffee and walked off 🤷‍♀️

She is always preachy🙄 But this one got me. I actually laughed after, because it was just so ridiculous. I hope she slips on her fake grass every day for ever and ever and ever.

@GuineaPiglet345 😂

I’d have looked her dead in the eye and ordered a second coffee in a single use cup.

And I’d have asked them to double-cup it, as well as asking if they had any plastic stirrers.

Honestly, I try so hard to do my bit for the environment and I bloody resent being told that, whatever I do, it’s not enough, especially when it’s someone who isn’t exactly perfect themselves. I had someone lecture me on disposable cup use whilst shovelling down her nth portion of (ethically dubious) meat a day. I was biting my tongue very hard (because - ironically - she doesn’t take criticism well) to state that at least my coffee cup didn’t have a horrible life and a worse death.

It was vegware cup as well. They are completely compostable🤷‍♀️

People are bloody wierd sometimes.

Ignore her. The worst kind of virtue signalling. I had a friend who told me off for clearing my garden in the spring 'because it's bad for the environment'. This particular friend had never given a flying fuck about the environment in the five years I'd known her, never recycled anything, spent a fortune on expensive gyms and spa treatments and clothes. Then she decided to go green and suddenly she's holier than thou at me about it.

She's now an ex friend.

I do loads of un eco things mostly due to being disorganised etc. (Not reusing things or recycling them as much as I should, basically) but the people who choose to lecture me are always the ones who drive 4 by 4s and/or go on multiple holidays by aeroplane each year or whatever other eco crime that makes mine pale in comparison.

It's never my bicycle riding, canvas bag bringing, reusable cup swigging pals, always the glorious hypocrites!
