AIBU to dislike this in a new bathroom?

We are in the process of getting an expensive new bathroom put in. I've just got home, most of it is amazing, but I hate this section! You can't open the sink door properly and it's just so annoying with the towel rail. When we arranged this and planned it out with the showroom, they didn't tell us that it wouldn't fit properly! I'm so gutted and I can't see past it and I hate it. AIBU?

Nope that would annoy me too! Sorry OP that's probably not the answer you wanted, is there any way of moving the towel rail?

TheHobbitMum · 02/04/2019 18:02

If the showroom have designed that then they should've known that would happen! I'd not be happy with that at all and would be expecting them to sort it out. You are not unreasonable to dislike this

SosigDog · 02/04/2019 18:03

It’s very poor design on their part. A properly trained designer should anticipate issues like that. It’s also probably too late to change it. Personally I’d probably complain and try to wangle a discount.

PinkiOcelot · 02/04/2019 18:03

Could they change it for a smaller one? It’s a bit big and in your face, but I think a smaller one would look ok.

thenightsky · 02/04/2019 18:03

That's silly. It would bug the hell out of me too. Can you get the plumber back to change the position or swap it for a better shape to fit the space?

happilyevernever · 02/04/2019 18:04

I’d dislike that too OP, what’s the point in a cabinet if it can’t open properly?. Follow it up with the showroom if they designed it, they should’ve planned it out

lostlalaloopsy · 02/04/2019 18:05

That does look annoying!! Can you move towel rail anywhere else? We are having a new bathroom put in very soon, can I ask where you got your sink unit from? It's lovely x

PawPawNoodle · 02/04/2019 18:05

OT but I'm intrigued - what's the handle on the side of the sink for?

SosigDog · 02/04/2019 18:07

You could probably fix the issue with a concertina door that folds to the left?

DownStreet · 02/04/2019 18:12

Could you swap the doors for sliding ones? Probably the least amount of effort required, as I assume if you moved the towel rail you’d have to replace tile.

embo1 · 02/04/2019 18:17

Is there something next to the vanity? What if you got them to move it towards us, away from the wall?
Is the 'handle' a hand towel rail? In which case you'd need a gap for the hand towel to go in anyway...?

user1471530109 · 02/04/2019 18:18

It doesn't look like the radiator is plumbed in yet. Get them to swap it for a narrower one (I have a lovely narrow tall one in my bathroom)

Would a lighter colour towel rail work better? It looks very heavy for the room.

chandylier · 02/04/2019 18:21

I’d have to get that changed. The radiator is huge, can you get a smaller one that would go higher up?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/04/2019 18:25

The vanity unit needs to be shifted to the left and an infill put 8n to fill the gap on the right.
Whoever was fitting it should have realised that there was going to be a problem....

neversleepagain · 02/04/2019 18:29

That radiator is very big and your bathroom mostly likely doesn't need such a big one.

bettytaghetti · 02/04/2019 18:30

Agree that that is terrible planning on the showroom's part. Did you have the walls replastered or is it a new build?
We had problems with room dimensions not being accurate enough as we were working off architects' plans and the plasterers had put bloody great daubs of stuff to hold the plasterboard in place, that it quite substantially affected room dimensions when it came to size-sensitive rooms like bathrooms.
Can the vanity unit be moved over slightly away from the wall? Also in danger of burning yourself on the towel radiator if standing naked at the sink! May just be our bastard towel rads that are ridiculously hot in other house!

LucilleBluth · 02/04/2019 18:31

The radiator is far too big. You can get some excellent heated towel rails now that fit in all sorts of spaces.

Alsohuman · 02/04/2019 18:31

A narrower radiator would solve the problem, it looks too big regardless of the cupboard door issue.

burritofan · 02/04/2019 18:31

That's appalling! Not too late to change it assuming you haven't paid up and work's not finished yet. Put your foot down.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 02/04/2019 18:33

Sorry op but that’s poor design, by the time you’ve put towels on it, it’ll really get in the way. Without towels you’ll end up burning your arm on it when cleaning teeth or washed (those radiators get really hot)

PineapplePatty · 02/04/2019 18:34

It's huge and ugly, needs changing in my opinion.

SilentBob · 02/04/2019 18:38

I need to know what the handle is for on the sink unit.

And I'd be asking the designer to change the layout pdq!

Bathroomwoes2019 · 02/04/2019 18:45

Well thank you all for making me feel like I'm not going crazy. We did choose the towel rail, and I actually love the colour but I'm so frustrated this wasn't flagged up! It's quite a decent size room so it should be enough heat.

The handle is to be fitted onto the cupboards and is just loose, sorry it isn't magical opening sink.

We have paid for all the fixtures, but it isn't the fitters fault. They've done a great job. It was a complete new room, back to brick and replastered.

We didn't realise on the 3d plan this was going to be an issue, i would have never signed off on the plans. Can't move the sink as there is a cabinet above it which is symmetrical. Also, annoyingly the toilet is a bit close to the bath and I don't know why. This is into 5 figures!!!
