Ragging at rude checkout man

Cherylshaw · 01/04/2019 20:50

I don't know if i am bu and before i complain please tell me if i am.
Me and ds (4) and dd (1) were doing a big shop today in our local coop, i have never done their home delivery service before so decided to do that, i knew you had to fill out a wee form on a computer and sort out a card so i did all that before doing my shop choosing delivery slot of between 4 and 5 today. 2 kids in trolly did our shop and at the checkout told the chap it was for home delivery before he started.
He asked for the wee slip that should have been printed... I never collected it (never noticed it) so i told him just to start putting all the shopping through and like 6 bags and I'd be two seconds. Left the kids in trolly at till the computer thing was about 3 steps away from till, when i put card in it said card had been cancelled so had to do it all over again and there were no delivery slots left for today had to be 12-2 tomorrow.
So did that anyways get back to the checkout man and he was still scanning my stuff all a big pile with carrier bags at bottom of pile. There is now a cue behind ne, kids start acting up and I'm just ramming stuff into bags to clear it away so i don't hold anyone back (thought the checkout operated would have at least helped me bag the stuff but just sat there and watched me try and calm the kids and fill the bags. After i had put the bags into the trolly he says "you have to separate the fridge stuff, frozen, stuff and cleaning stuff" why the hell could he not tell me that when he watched me pack the bags! Yeh i probably should have known as it makes sense but i was just rushing. I told him just to leave the delivery, paid and filled the buggy with all the bags.
So aibu or should he have helped me out a bit or am in expecting too much and being precious?
(Should say i used to work in the coop down the road from this one and had to help him fix his till before he even started serving me)

Totally unhelpful of him, as soon as he saw you put the first frozen/chilled/cleaning item in a bag with other stuff he could easily have said ‘oh, you’ll need to separate those’ and you’d have realised that of course that would be sensible and you’d have done it as you went along. Or better still have said ‘shall I pack the frozen stuff for you?’. Watching you struggle to pack it all and then telling you was rubbish customer service.
I was very grateful to the checkout lady today when I was shopping who just stopped for a few moments to let me get caught up with the packing andget it back into the trolley in a sensible way as I was fighting it under the baby seat bit. It didn’t hold things up more than I was doing anyway it just made it much easier for me to pack without the bagging area being totally full of stuff.

mclaleli · 01/04/2019 23:05

No it isn't. Clearly @mclaleli woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning!

Fuck sake, you don't think perhaps enough people have had a go already?

I didn't wake up on the wrong side of anything. I just found that OP to be very hard to read. As I have explained.

But hey, let's all keep the digs coming...

Cherylshaw · 01/04/2019 23:12

Thanks for everyone's input! I'm glad the majority don't think i was being precious.
I will write an email to the coop saying i was upset with the service i received.

I think I know where OP is island/2 Co-ops/1 a large one. Heard some bad things about it but it has a monopoly.

I used to work in a Co-op which did home delivery (didn't have one of the fancy machines though) and we always used to call another member of staff over to bag the shopping as it was so much quicker than to have a customer do it. We knew the sizes of the delivery crates etc. and had to take it to the storage area(s) anyway - ambient/freezer/chiller.

PregnantSea · 02/04/2019 00:50

My experience of the co-op is usually a long queue because they only have one register open and other staff members are stacking shelves or something, then you get to the till and they don't speak to you even to say hi because they are gossiping with another staff member stacking the cigarettes behind the counter, then if there are any issues or you dare to ask them something they look at you as if you just shat on the counter.

I can't stand the place. Maybe I've always just been to the bad co-ops?

Cherylshaw · 02/04/2019 00:59

@slashlover

Haha have i outed myself!! 😂

slashlover · 02/04/2019 01:06

@Cherylshaw To be fair, it's pretty specialist knowledge unless you've been there. Wink I just know because my Co-op was in the same area as the large store (same area manager etc.) Used to get the 'their sales are amazing speech' when it's one of only two main supermarkets and it's a tourist place.

Cherylshaw · 02/04/2019 01:08

@slashlover
Haha i was in the smaller one and were told we had to complete with the big supermarket when we were basically a glorified sweet shop 😂

Yes he was very rude. Why on earth did he just sit there and watch you pack everything before saying that. It sounds like he has some form of inferiority complex and took delight in ridiculing you in front of everyone who was in the queue.

MrMeSeeks · 02/04/2019 01:49

I think he was probably annoyed that you left to go fill a card in leaving your trolley and kids whilst he had people to serve ( can understand).
If he stopped to pack your stuff too then his queue would be even longer.

StoppinBy · 02/04/2019 02:10

I know this misses the point but what do they do with the stuff that needs to be kept frozen or cold until delivery?

From the sounds of it he just kind of stood there doing nothing while watching you pack all your stuff? Yes, that is pretty shitty behaviour, especially as he is getting paid for that time.

Sometimes retail staff fail to see that without their customers they wouldn't have a job so whether it is in their job description or not, going above and beyond what is actually required is a great way to keep your job.

jameswong · 02/04/2019 02:46

The guys got some shit job working tills in the coop. He doesn't give a flying fuck. Just let it go, not worth it.

RebootYourEngine · 02/04/2019 04:20

@StoppinBy I would assume they have separate fridge/freezers somewhere in store for deliveries like most supermarkets.

mclaleli · 02/04/2019 04:34

know this misses the point but what do they do with the stuff that needs to be kept frozen or cold until delivery?

They put it in the fridge/freezer.

origamiunicorn · 02/04/2019 07:24

Your post is just a jumble of nothing

No it fucking isn’t

Well actually it is to me, which is why I said so. Who have you the insight to the working of my brain?*

In which case, if we're being pedantic, it's not OP's post that's the issue, it's your comprehension.

mclaleli · 02/04/2019 08:19

In which case, if we're being pedantic, it's not OP's post that's the issue, it's your comprehension.

Be pedantic all you like. Although, to join the thread at this point and continue bitching about something that has been done over and over, and not even contribute to the OP, well it's more being an arsehole than pedantic.

Did it make you feel good?

Sweetlittlepug · 02/04/2019 08:51

Yanbu, very unhelpful and rude of him.

Cherylshaw · 02/04/2019 09:17

@MrMeSeeks
If i stretched my arm from the delivery machine i could have prob reached and touched my kids it wasn't like i went away for 5 mins to the other side of the shop, and like i said he was still scanning my stuff so nobody had to wait to get served while i was away, i don't think it takes much to scan with one hand and bag with the other but it obviously was for him. Just decency to help someone?

OP posts:
Didntwanttochangemyname · 02/04/2019 09:29

Ooh OP I know where you are too! I live nearby (mainland) and understand your frustration. Shitty service when you don't have much choice of going elsewhere is crap!
Before you complain, just give a moments thought to how is going to be taken. The checkout operator is going to know exactly who made the complaint.
How likely is it that they were just having a really shit day and didn't feel like being helpful? If you think it could have been a one off, I'd leave it, maybe even kill him with kindness next time, to shame him. If he's going to be a surly shite forevermore then complain away!

CripsSandwiches · 02/04/2019 09:31

Your post is just a jumble of nothing

Why post such an obnoxious reply - I found the post 100% clear.

He does sound remarkably rubbish OP. Might be worth making a comment to the manager so their staff can be better trained.

Cherylshaw · 02/04/2019 09:38

I wouldn't mention the chaps name just that i had a rubbish experience, i know 90% of the staff including the manager and think maybe he is newish as i had to help him with the till before he served me (he never even said thanks)

OP posts:
mclaleli · 02/04/2019 09:39

Why post such an obnoxious reply - I found the post 100% clear.

Because I didn't find it clear. Been bashed for it. Been over and over it. Explained it more then once. Acknowledged it.

Now please, how about people get the fuck over it?

Or are you just another 'kick them while they are down' poster?

Sweetlittlepug · 02/04/2019 09:59

Typical mnetters piling in on one poster, classic bullying. Just drop it please.

HardofCleaning · 02/04/2019 10:01

I didn't wake up on the wrong side of anything. I just found that OP to be very hard to read. As I have explained.

Then ask for clarification like a normal, polite person. Don't lay in to the OP then act affronted when you don't get a warm reception yourself!
