O please lets do that. Revoke, rethink and re- refer.

At the moment we are Brexiting, Goldmandra, no need to do anything.

If I felt strongly that Brexit was the right thing to do right now, I'd be signing every petition going to make sure my feelings were heard.

I don't think many people are likely be sitting quietly waiting to see what happens, not bothering to sign any petitions but planning to smash some shop windows in protest if it doesn't go ahead.

twofingerstoEverything · 31/03/2019 16:49

Vote Leave didn't manage to get to 17m+ without cheating
Quite.

FaFoutis · 31/03/2019 16:50

how little democracy we have left in this country
What does that even mean? Democracy is not something you run out of, like milk.
And voting again and again would be MORE democracy.

FaFoutis · 31/03/2019 16:51

I'm enjoying watching the RW press manage their retreat.

NunoGoncalves · 31/03/2019 16:51

The Vote Leave camp recently withdrew its appeal against the fine it received for breaking electoral law. Because they realised there was no way to win the appeal (since they presumably know they did indeed break electoral law). This has been barely covered by the media but really should be a bigger deal. If the referendum had been a proper election, it would have been declared null and void by this point.

Yet people are still harping on about a second election being "undemocratic".

Goldmandra · 31/03/2019 16:52

Forcing us to stay in the EU is just exposing how little democracy we have left in this country.

Our democracy is based on the principle that we elect representatives who inform themselves on the complexities of the issues that come before them and take the action that they believe is in the best interests of the electorate. That is exactly what I expect them to do now; not blindly follow a referendum result that was largely based on lies and misinformation and bore little resemblance to the decisions they are being asked to make on our behalf now.

bellabasset · 31/03/2019 16:54

We should have a vote on any deal before we leave.

Watch Andrew Marr's interview with John Major on the Andrew Marr show

Goldmandra · 31/03/2019 16:57

We should have a vote on any deal before we leave.

Yep. A referendum on whether to leave with a deal that has already been negotiated and a good indicator of the trade deals made with other countries outside the EU in the case of Brexit going ahead.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/03/2019 17:00

We should have a vote on any deal.......but will it be listened to?

Windowsareforcheaters · 31/03/2019 17:03

just exposing how little democracy we have left in this country

Democracy is a series of institutions and presidents coalesced into a constitution. It isn't an either/or concept. To try to says you have more or less democracy is to misunderstand the concept.

To base your whole idea of democracy on one referendum which was the result of a shoddy piece of legislation does demonstrate a lack of understanding. The simplistic idea constantly stated that democracy means the majority always wins is another example of the fundamental lack of understanding related to democracy.

Again, the whole Brexit fiasco demonstrates how poorly educated people are in relation to our political systems.

flitwit99 · 31/03/2019 17:09

We can't revoke on the basis of 6m people typing in their email address. You can do it from your sofa with a glass of wine in your hand yet only 6m people have bothered?

womandear · 31/03/2019 17:10

‘6 million is nothing’ SmileShockWink course it is.

Iggly · 31/03/2019 17:12

Vote Leave broke laws - people don’t think it’s serious because they don’t believe they would have voted any differently.

However given the result was marginal - when you look at the %/proportion of voters - it really matters because enough people may have been persuaded by lies.

It’s a fucking disgrace.

Nothing has been done to tackle that failure in our democratic process because it suits the government of the day and I worry for future elections.

Windowsareforcheaters · 31/03/2019 17:13

Of course we can't revoke based on a petition but the petition indicates the strength of feeling in the country. The petition should inform politicians about how the public feel and give the, pause for thought.

The petition and the march aim to influence politicians not bring about a total change of mind.

twocats335 · 31/03/2019 17:16

Absolutely not! The remainiacs need to stop trying to mess things up and get on with the job of doing what the people voted for.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/03/2019 17:19

So very interesting.

Op has only been on mn for this thread!

And posted twice!

Rock on remainer bots.

Goldmandra · 31/03/2019 17:25

get on with the job of doing what the people voted for.

I think it's pretty clear to all concerned that 'doing what just over half of the people voted for' isn't an option that actually exists.

notangelinajolie · 31/03/2019 17:40

People don't really believe that 6 million actual people voted do they?

And remainers think Brexiteers are stupid ….

I happen to know of at least one cat and dog who voted

Sybelline · 31/03/2019 17:43

People don't really believe that 6 million actual people voted do they?

Voted in what?

Do you perhaps mean 'signed'?

And remainers think Brexiteers are stupid ….

twofingerstoEverything · 31/03/2019 17:43

borntobequiet
The fraud thing is interesting. People want to believe it so badly. One of the comments on that twitter feed you linked: I’ve seen thousands of people using names of famous people and character and off tv shows.

You can't even see the names of signatories Hmm There's such desperation to discredit numbers, whether on petitions or marches, it's pathetic.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/03/2019 17:45

The belief in it is pathetic tbh.

LOL my cat and dog DID vote because my daughter did it for them and I helped her Grin

Sybelline · 31/03/2019 17:49

You added names to a petition you're opposed to? Yep, your brain really is firing on all cylinders.
