Bleeding for months after having a baby.

I'm 5 months post partum. My DS is ebf however my period came back pretty much straight away. Think I'm just unlucky. Lochia stopped after 8 weeks of bleeding then a month later I got my period. I've been bleeding ever since... it goes from normal blood, to brown blood, stops for a day or 2, comes back etc. I only get a day of non bleeding at a time and think I've probably had a total of 6/7 days where I haven't had my period. I'm starting to feel really down about it. I'm drained anyway but having his bleeding is really bothering me. Has anyone else had this? I don't want to go on the pill but would be open to using some sort of non-hormonal contraception to make the bleeding stop! Got a doctors appointment but sadly they didn't have anything for nearly 3 weeks so got a bit of a wait...

Any experience? Just want the bleeding to stop Sad AIBU to feel like this is genuinely making me quite depressed?

I've heard lochia can stop-start. But best to get checked by your GP.

I did too

Turned out retained placenta.

That's not usual. Have you seen your doctor about it?

That'd get me down too. Might be worth taking an iron supplement until you get to your doctor.

I bled for over 3 months after having my last one. I went to the docs and they gave me some tablets to stop it. You might need your iron levels checking as well.

@DonPablo I've got an appointment but they're so busy. Nothing for 3 weeks. Going slowly insane...

Retained placenta for me too. 2 doctors told me it was normal to bleed for months after, the 3rd one was outraged that they'd let it go so long

Does it have a smell? I bled for months and while I did tell people and everyone said it was normal - after 3 months doctor said it was a womb infection (I had a C section) and it stopped after antibiotics).

Same here. I had retained placenta. First time was a large amount of placenta so I suddenly started bleeding VERY heavily and was rushed to A&E. Second time was a small amount of placenta so wasn’t picked up on immediately and I demanded a scan, which of course showed I had retained placenta again.
If this is the case, it can actually be quite dangerous.
