Its my boyfriends birthday today and we we're just about to go out for the day when he came home from popping out stinking of fags (he quit 3 months ago) i asked him about 5 times if hes just had one and he said no i swear i haven't honestly im not lying ect. He finally admitted after 5 minutes of lying yeah hes had one and he has been for last few days. Now im not really annoyed about the smoking its just the lying and continuing to lie to my face. Ive refused to go out with him for the day... am i being unreasonable?

I'm with you OP I hate liars and I wouldn't go out with him birthday or not ! you could smell it on him yet still lied to your face nope I'm sorry that's not good.

You have ruined his birthday. Just be clear on that. However it sounds to me like this runs deeper. Getting the vibe that he's lied about stuff that's important to you before and maybe you couldn't let this drop because it's happened too many times before. In which case I understand the frustration. I agree that it's stupid for an adult to lie about something like this. I would be pissed off too, but I would have waited until tomorrow to deal with it.

Well we went out in the end and it was fine he apologised. But its just left me feeling a bit off. The way he just lied to my face time that no matter how big or small the lie was. He's lied a lot in the past so clearly he hasnt learnt from his mistakes.
