Is it just me ?
I'm getting my colour done on a very rare day off . I've been here 2 hours and I'm bored.
I really don't like going to the hairdressers just so many other things I could be doing , I think it's because I'm always so busy I'm not used to just sitting .
Obviously I will be happy when my hairs all done but until then Confused
Anyway else feel the same ?

I absolutely hate it too, which is why I haven't had my hair cut since before Christmas.

Hiddenaspie1973 · 29/03/2019 21:40

Loathe it. I last had a haircut in August. In Turkey by a bloke who only spoke Turkish. Deliberately. No chat, just sign language and a lovely cut. Perfect for me.
I may get another cut in August as I'm off to Turkey again. Hopefully the stylist won't speak English.

Nuyearnume · 29/03/2019 21:44

I enjoy the coffee, the hair massage and a bit of time to go on my iPad not so much a fan if it’s someone chatting at me the whole time. I usually do shopping when I’m there even if it’s just a Tesco delivery feels like I’ve been productive !

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 29/03/2019 21:46

I hate it too. It's so intimidating, and I often find them snobby and judgemental I always worry they are going to be disgusted with the condition of my hair (even though its fine), I went grey pretty early and loads of hairdressers would look at my hair and go 'oh my god you've got loads of grey haven't you' and I'd be like 'no shit sherlock!', hate the sinks they are so uncomfortable, they rarely do it exactly how I like, and the very few times I have had colour I've hated it, I always just do my own.

When I had long hair I just used to cut it myself but now it's shorter I do have to go Sad

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 29/03/2019 21:47

Oh God, and don't even get me started on the mirror thing!

To not enjoy the hairdressers!!
Hidethecrisps · 29/03/2019 21:48

Yep it’s awful and boring and I just don’t have time anymore. I’ve given up on highlights after 20 odd years for this very reason. When I do have 4 hours free (rare) I really resent having to spend it making small talk to a stranger and reading 6 month old mags (although I take my kindle if I remember) I’d rather be having fun with my kids or spending time with friends. Then again my hair probably looks pretty crap but I can’t really say I’m worried about it.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 21:54

I don’t do the idle chat, just flick through mags, so much better

RoboticSealpup · 29/03/2019 22:35

I absolutely hate it. Hairdressers are so bossy and overbearing. They never do what you want, they never listen, they make massive mistakes like dyeing your hair black or ginger when you asked for dark blonde (yes, I've had both of those) or cut the front shorter then the back when you explicitly asked for the exact opposite and when you complain, they lie until they're blue in the face or make up some story about why "this suits you much better", rather than admit any error on their part. They're almost as bad as estate agents.

GreenOliveOrBlackOlive · 29/03/2019 22:46

I hate hate hate it too. Always coming out feeling my only option is to spend months growing it out. How much it cost. Saying it’s ok when it’s horrible.

And most of all sitting there with my crumpled picture and feeling completely patronised whilst the hairdresser demolishes my hair compared to hers in the picture and how mine would never look like that (even though I wasn’t wanting anything more complicated that a bob ffs).

Yep totally hate the salon experience. So I’ve decided not to go for a whole year and 4 months in already my hair looks much better.

TheNoodlesIncident · 30/03/2019 07:06

I don't have my hair coloured in the salon so it always takes under an hour in there for cut and blow dry, but all the same... I don't want my head massaged thanks, my toes are curling at the thought of it but it didn't occur to me to tell the hair-washer not to, but I will next time! (It was the same on holiday, all these women wandering along the beach saying "Massage, lady?" and I thinking HELL NO Shock I don't want to be touched by a stranger. Feel tense already!)

But I do like the stylist in the hairdressers, she has a kid in the same year as mine so we always have something school-related to talk about which makes it so much easier now. I really hate seeing myself in the mirror, I'm self conscious of my voice and my ears stick out, so it's not the best experience for me. At least they are pleasant people and try to give you the haircut you want, unless it's not possible because of your hair type (fine, greasy and rebellious-tending-to-frizz).

idontlike789 · 30/03/2019 09:29

Glad it's not just me then .

Resurrecting an old thread here. I am not keen either. I hate sitting around for long and am really not into the trivial inane chat. I just book a dry cut that way I am out of there really fast! I have dyed my own hair for years so I don't have to put up with the hours lost at the salon.

MaggieAndHopey · 06/02/2020 05:10

I hate it so much I cut my own hair at home for a few years. Luckily I have very short hair so I would just run a clipper over it with a guard. Now I like a fancy barber cut so I go to a barber, which is better because there's no hair wash so it's over quicker.

Bluewavescrashing · 06/02/2020 05:11

I really like my hairdresser but find the 2 hours I spend there exhausting. It's the chatting I think. I always feel drained when I leave.

HeronLanyon · 06/02/2020 05:28

Love - getting my hair washed by someone else and the head massage.
Like - my hairdresser. We have good chats and sometimes are quieter.
Don’t like - when my hairdresser is on maternity leave ! Had one who just did what she thought I should have - came out with it much shorter than I had carefully asked for - good cut but didn’t listen.

HeronLanyon · 06/02/2020 05:31

Hate - going home and immediately washing hair to get it back to what I like - getting rid of flattening or flouncing finishes. My own hairdresser just ‘rough dries’ because I ask her to.
Looking awful in the mirror !! Not a confidence booster.
The amount of time it takes.
The cost - seems a lot always.

Nitpickpicnic · 06/02/2020 05:33

I save up a lot of life admin to do on my iPad or phone, and make a point of saying how much I need to do, to the stylist. More often than not, she’s as relieved as I am to not have to do the ‘inane chatter’ thing.

Occasionally I’ve had a stylist comment of what’s on my screen. I do a pause- sorry did you need me?- oh I’m in admin world, completely tuned out of reality- back to it. No one has ever interrupted twice. I’m careful to be sociable and complimentary at the start and end of the appointment. But no way my nice stretches to 2hrs+.

Going this week- have already got about 7 things listed to research, buy online and emails to return. God help me if their wifi is down or under a new policy!

squeekums · 06/02/2020 05:43

Hate it
I haven't been to one since I was 10. I trim and colour my own hair

Yabadee · 06/02/2020 06:25

Oh I love it.

I go to our college to get mine done. They always try so hard and do a great job. The chatter is incredible too, it’s like I live on a different planet from these young ones (and I’m only 32!) the stuff they talk about is quite entertaining, don’t think they release I can hear half the time 😂

I love the head massage and someone else washing my hair too.

Best of all, it’s £30 for a cut, style and full head of highlights and lowlights.

PollyPelargonium52 · 08/02/2020 14:11

I am going back to the hair salon in the neighbouring city as I find the salons where I live too nosey and twee.

MadisonAvenue · 08/02/2020 14:15

I don't like going (even though I used to be a hairdresser) so just get a dry cut and I'm hopefully out of the door within 15 minutes.

Yesterdayforgotten · 08/02/2020 14:17

I like my hairdresser, she's lovely and always fits you in.

ChocolateCranberries · 08/02/2020 14:20

Hate it, I changed to an at home hairdresser, but still hated that so been cutting my own hair for about 4 years now.

Formermousemat · 08/02/2020 14:29

I hate it so I stopped going. I'm lucky enough to have a manageable hair type so I just put it up in a bun if I need to look professional.

CMOTDibbler · 08/02/2020 14:35

I hate it. When I dyed my hair I did it myself as the sitting around did my head in. And they never cut it how I want - the urge to put layers in as I have a lot of hair is very strong with hairdressers, but it makes my hair huge and unruly.
Now I have grey/white hair which they get even more antsy about!

My last two cuts have been with a walk in bloke in town who mostly does mens hair and its brilliant. In, dry cut (my preference as its how my hair will be normally), done, no wittering about Love Island, £15.
