To not enjoy the hairdressers!!

Is it just me ?
I'm getting my colour done on a very rare day off . I've been here 2 hours and I'm bored.
I really don't like going to the hairdressers just so many other things I could be doing , I think it's because I'm always so busy I'm not used to just sitting .
Obviously I will be happy when my hairs all done but until then Confused
Anyway else feel the same ?

I did enjoy having an "updo" when hair was longer though Smile

Cookit · 29/03/2019 17:15

Hate it and most of all hate having my hair washed with my head right back at a painful angle over the basin. Ouch.

SheeshazAZ09 · 29/03/2019 17:20

I can't bear it. My hair knots easily and they always yank and pull it by combing from the top down rather than from the ends upwardssometimes they pull out chunks of hairand then they rub like hell during the washing. It's not necessary, my hair isn't that dirty and my head doesn't need scrubbing. I have turned into a control freak who gives them a lecture before they start about how to treat my hair and what not to do. It tires me out listening to myself so I am sure they find it wearing too.

Petalflowers · 29/03/2019 17:23

I have someone cut my hair at home now. So much nicer.

Treefloof · 29/03/2019 17:27

Hate it so much, I embraced the grey hair.

A while ago I wanted to go blonde and short, spent ages getting it cut and blow dried to go back a week later for the blonde. 4 hours later i looked like a red faced justin bieber. Hated it. It cost a lot. The time wasted etc. So I found me a lovely hairdresser who will let me go to her house or she to mine or if I feel brave to the salon (in 4 years I haven't stepped foot in the salon) and I get it cut short ish and its about £20 and I dont panic, and I'm not terrified what I will look like.

Andylion · 29/03/2019 17:32

I'm under the dryer right now, getting highlights. I love my hairdresser, I have been coming to her for almost 30 years.

It's just her in her salon, which is in a Victorian house that she has decorated in a really funky way, with art work from local artists on display.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 17:33

Agree but I like the result

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 17:34

My hair knots and I don’t like massages so I always say no head massage and ask them to hand me a brush. Beats them ripping my hair with a comb

Cryalot2 · 29/03/2019 17:41

My hairdresser is like a friend. Yes I hate the time wasted, but I take my kindle and see it as a rest.
On a special occasion a few years back, she and 1 staff came in at 7:30 am to have us ready.
They go the extra10 miles .
Small outfit but excellent service .

idontlike789 · 29/03/2019 17:42

I'm finished after 2hrs 50 min and my hair looks great if I do say so myself, even my husband noticed when I got home Grin.
I don't think a home dye kit would be any where near as good .
It's the whole sitting I hate and I get bored easily . I only get my colour done about 3 times a year and I have a cut & blow every 8 weeks which I don't mind as unusually in and out in 40 mins .
Dh thinks it's insane how long it takes I've just bored him with the process after he tells me his takes 10 minutes.

Yes, yes , yes, me. I hate the " where are you going on holiday/ what are you doing this evening" talk. I feel like I'm so boring also you're massaging my head and it feels good please can we do it in silence. I book a wet cut because I find the blow drying excruciatingly long but I feel their disapproval. I always feel there must be a market for a silent hairdressers 😀

gamerwidow · 29/03/2019 19:41

I hate it. It’s a boring waste of time.
I don’t like small talk with people I don’t know and I don’t like people fiddling about with me.
It’s a means to an end but I’d rather be doing something else.

gamerwidow · 29/03/2019 19:42

I colour my hair myself and I have a hairdresser who comes to my house to cut it. She’s been doing it for 10 years now so the chat is genuinely enjoyable because I know her.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/03/2019 19:44

I HATE salons. Haven't set foot in one for over 20 years.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 29/03/2019 19:46

I hate it too, so much so I went over 20 years without stepping foot in one, I then decided to go from long to short and have highlights, it was the most boring, bum numbing 4 hours of my life and I paid £95 for the privilege.

I'm now back to trimming it myself, using home dye kits and feeling a little smug about how much money I'm saving each year.

junebirthdaygirl · 29/03/2019 19:49

I like it so much l go every week for a blow dry. I do find getting colour every 5 weeks a bit long but l read all the magazines l never buy and totally chill out.

FlutterShite · 29/03/2019 19:51

I find it excruciating. The hairdresser is lovely and the salon is nice, but I hate seeing my face in the mirror while we're talking, and my voice always sounds ridiculous when I try to talk over the noise of hairdryers next to me. And then I hear myself making things up about things I have planned for the weekend ("ooh maybe a walk in the woods, and perhaps a classy lunch somewhere") or for holidays ("yes, it has to be somewhere with nightlife! Holidays are all about nightlife!"), because the truth is I am boring and have no plans that are worth talking about.

Elphame · 29/03/2019 20:15

Not a fan either - I was in nearly 6 hours last time ( I have long thick hair and some exotic colouring). I always come out with a thumping headache.

Balula · 29/03/2019 20:18

I hate it! That's the reason my hair lives in 2 plaits down my to my bottom! I have to take my glasses off do end up vulnerable not being able to see in a bright, bustling salon when me (the extreme introvert) would rather poke daggers in my nostrils than be there. I'm sure the stylists are lovely and it's no slight on them, it's just not for me.

TheBossOfMe · 29/03/2019 20:29

I have a list of "online tasks" that I take to the hairdresser - and get through them whilst waiting for colour to develop etc. So online orders, school forms etc - my hairdresser has excellent wifi connectivity, a must for me.

CherryPavlova · 29/03/2019 21:01

Absolutely keep hairdressing appointments to the minimum. I’ve had the same, sweet, very good stylist for about twelve years. I still find it a not particularly pleasant experience that I pretend to enjoy. I don’t like the head massage business, the public environment with a head covered in foil, the massage chairs, polite conversation. Four hours of nothingness. Just horrid. I go about twice a year so think the high costs of mine balance out against my husband’s much cheaper but more frequent trips.

Skinnypigs · 29/03/2019 21:10

YANBU. Can't have someone come to the house easily for various reasons.. Its the feeling like you have to make conversation and having a horrible great mirror in front of you. I can cope with small talk but only for about 15 minutes!

Frickssake · 29/03/2019 21:27

I have an unspoken deal with my hairdresser. She doesn't blow dry my hair she just dries it off and always charges me the same whether I have a cut or not with my highlights

Blankiefan · 29/03/2019 21:31

I hate it but recently discovered the best way to minimise it. Book for a weekday evening. The staff are super keen to get home so they don't faff about and I swear you get out in half the time!

SteelRiver · 29/03/2019 21:38

I don't like seeing myself in the big mirrors but, other than that, I just have a good natter with my stylist and the other customers or flick through a magazine. It passes the time and I come out feeling fab!
