OK, it's doubtful Brexit is going to happen any time soon but definitely worth coming along and standing up for what we voted for.

Very little coverage in the media - unfortunately no full page spreads in the Standard for us....

It will be going on until early evening so still worth turning up if you can't get the day off work. Lots of great speakers including Julia Hartley Brewer, Claire Fox, Kate Hoey et al.

Bornfreebutinchains You commented earlier

ARF that some poster's, baying for blood and violence, desperate to drag all leavers down to the level of Tommy Robinson, desperate for violence, desperate to ignore the Very reasonable and rationale crowd that turned out yesterday

I would love to know how those effigies fit in with the idea of a reasonable and rational crowd? I can't see anyone in the video calling him out, nor trying to distance themselves from that type of leave voter. Instead people just walk with him, as though dragging the bodies is a completely reasonable thing to be doing. Confused

woman19 · 30/03/2019 16:59

The useful thing about this torrid little rally is what it's revealed.

Many in this country and elsewhere will have watched in horror at the violence and racism revealed by speakers and participants, including, I hope, many moderate leavers.

By the way are women allowed to speak at these events OP?

It's funny that so many of the views expressed by the fundamentalist men speakers are so similar to those held by fundamentalist men in other totalitarian regimes.

Useful for us all to see the modest support and impotent incoherence of the speakers and the raging men who screamed at women MPs and media workers.

Despite horrendous cuts to their budget, the police have shown themselves to be true brave, patriotic professionals, keeping London safe from these thugs.

They deserve our thanks.

bellinisurge · 30/03/2019 17:07

Sounds a lot like Trump describing some of those Charlottesville protestors as good people. Distance yourself or think you don't have to.

PortiaCastis · 30/03/2019 17:43

Born free. How dare you mock those of us who actually travelled all night to be at the people's march, yes I sodding well posted on here for help as I'm from Cornwall and was lost so needed help and someone who wasn't dizzy messaged me with some ideas, but at least I made the effort to stand up for myself and my dd and no I didnt get dizzy nor shout out racist chants nor get arrested or harass a female MP or sickly drag a coffin around. I just marched as best I could!

Caztonette · 30/03/2019 17:47

Wow. I've only just seen the photo of the effigies being hung, absolutely disgusting. Can't believe that's the UK in 2019. I really hope the police are taking these threats of violence against our democracy seriously.

And fuck every single Leave voter that tries to justify that. If you try to excuse the threats of violence against MPs (which have become prevalent amongst certain Leave-voting groups), then Remainers are right to lump you in with the worst of these yobs.

PortiaCastis · 30/03/2019 17:54

Yes but we who went to a peaceful march are apparently dizzy

Whoever did that hanging of effigies is low disgusting scum and should be arrested, there must be an offence there somewhere

IceRebel · 30/03/2019 17:56

they didn't do anything about the violent effigies on the people's march last week

I missed the pictures of violent effigies from the remain march. I'm sure had there been a marcher who was dragging bodies of Farage et al with nooses around their necks, it would have been the front cover of the daily mail.

PortiaCastis · 30/03/2019 17:59

I was there and certainly didn't see any violent effigies last week

Caztonette · 30/03/2019 18:06

@Gilbert1A

I haven't seen anything from the Remain march akin to those effigies being hung at the Leave march.

Nothing at the Remain march implied a threat of violence.

The effigies yesterday clearly did.

In fact:

People's vote march

To invite all Mumsnetters to the Brexit Rally in Parliament Square tomorrow afternoon/evening?
BondiandBabe · 30/03/2019 18:23

@cazontonette, this is fake news. This was a stunt pulled by a suicide awareness campaign back in January, it wasn't part of the idiocy which took place yesterday.
I think the Brexit rally went appallingly, but I don't think spreading fake news helps any Remainer cause, let's leave the lies to the Brexiter politicians.

Caztonette · 30/03/2019 18:32

Thanks for clarifying @BondiandBabe, but the twitter post itself is from a Brexiteer and is a threat of violence. Guess they're appropriating other people's stunts to use for their own threats.

Clavinova · 30/03/2019 18:41

Denounce Yaxley-Lennon

I am happy to denounce him - and I have no intention of going on any marches or protests, but I will vote Leave if there is a second referendum.

I suspect that many Leave voters don't really know who he is and what he stands for. I had to google Tommy Robinson a few months ago - although I recognised the name, I didn't know who you were talking about. I still haven't heard him speak.

I think the Remain camp need to look inwards and call out the EU Commission as well - or the countries they represent;

All 28 European commissioners are white and only three of the 751 MEPs are black.

www.theguardian.com/world/2018/aug/29/eu-is-too-white-brexit-likely-to-make-it-worse

If the UK do end up staying in the EU - I wonder how we will deal with the prospect of Montenegro being the next likely candidate to join the Union in 2025?

Montenegro–a lead candidate for EU accession.
With most negotiation chapters open and a likely candidate to meet the 2025 accession date

UEFA have charged Montenegro with racist behaviour, following their football match with England last week. Will you call for a veto of Montenegro joining the EU if their football fans are found guilty of chanting racial abuse? Or do you hope that most Montenegrins are not racist?

Perhaps you have forgotten this attack in 2016?
Brexit voter died after brutal attack by Remain supporter in row over EU referendum.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/brexit-supporter-attack-eu-referendum-european-union-remain-manchester-a7362956.html

CCTV footage shown to the court captured Dunn repeatedly punching and pushing Mr Keating, who did not fight back during the 15-minute attack.

Dunn became angry after finding out his neighbour had voted for Brexit.

“The defendant became aggressive, asking if he had children, saying 'fucking think about their generation, not yours’.”

One witness said they saw Dunn cover the victim in fertiliser before saying:“I’m gonna burn you."

Dunn admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for four years and five months.

Sentencing, Judge Martin Rudland said:"We see from the glaring CCTV footage of the event that you picked on him and you bullied him and you wouldn’t let up.

“He is doing nothing but backing away from you at all times, but you goad him, you harass him, you follow him, you try and out-step him and out-manoeuvre him, and when you get close to him you punch him, not once, not twice but three times.

“It was an unpleasant, brazen, bullying event.

Do other Remain voters identify with this thug?

bellinisurge · 30/03/2019 19:27

So you don't even know who he is. Nice to know you've been following the news.

bellinisurge · 30/03/2019 19:31

Quite why should I take responsibility for some psycho who isn't an adviser to a Remain party. Unlike Yaxley-Lennon. Who is an adviser to UKIP.
And Montenegro is not in the EU. So racist twats there who deserve punishment are not an EU disease.
As for the ethnic makeup of the Commission. It's shit. Pale Male and Stale. Like much of Parliament.

bellinisurge · 30/03/2019 19:38

Perhaps you've forgotten the murder of Jo Cox.

Bornfreebutinchains · 30/03/2019 19:43

Wow.b

Release. . walking along with an effigy with scissors and a pick axe? Sticking out of it.

Wow.
