OK, it's doubtful Brexit is going to happen any time soon but definitely worth coming along and standing up for what we voted for.

Very little coverage in the media - unfortunately no full page spreads in the Standard for us....

It will be going on until early evening so still worth turning up if you can't get the day off work. Lots of great speakers including Julia Hartley Brewer, Claire Fox, Kate Hoey et al.

That’s not funny at all Maud. But it is.

Home77 · 29/03/2019 17:12

Yes, well the Remain one didn't seem to have coffins as far as I remember...

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/03/2019 17:13

The real test will come as the evening progresses and beer gets drunk.

Home77 · 29/03/2019 17:14

It's reported as a very strange atmosphere...here's more info and pictures about the other marches today as well.

Strange atmosphere in Parliament Square
By BBC home affairs correspondent Dominic Casciani
The mood and atmosphere in Parliament Square is very strange for a demonstration.
There is a really significant police presence, yet a lot of quiet but angry, angry people who believe that Parliament has "betrayed" Brexit.
When the news came through that MPs had, yet again, refused to back the PM's draft deal, the reaction was rather muted.
George, from St Albans, told me he was satisfied, because he hoped the UK could now crash out without a deal, as the public demanded.
One man has a coffin as a prop, declaring the death of democracy. "Bring out your dead," goes the prop's recording.

Ah- that was what it said, couldn't hear it before. Nice.

Oh FFS: Farage is addressing a mob who are all chanting “rise up” now.
That man should be charged with incitement to violence. He was calling for them all “to fight” last week.
He must be so proud.

MullofKintire · 29/03/2019 17:21

I think most Brexiters ( conservatives from the shires, older people, poorer people from the north) are the least likely demographic to join demonstrations in London.
The vast majority will be horrified that the likes of Tommy Robinson and his racist thug following have appointed themselves as their representatives.
If there is violence they will watch from te sidelines.

Langrish · 29/03/2019 17:23

“Gilbert1A

home he's saying that democracy is dead, not that he wants people to die”

Sure about that? Listen to that chanting.

cardibach · 29/03/2019 17:23

As with bullying, bystanders are also culpable I’m afraid.

Theworldisfullofgs · 29/03/2019 17:25

Tommy Robinson has been addressing the crowd....ffs

Windowsareforcheaters · 29/03/2019 17:26

The only thing it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing.

I misquote I know.

If by voting Brexit and supporting Brexit you give comfort and succour to these people you must bear some responsibility for their actions.

By voting Brexit and supporting Brexit, but not actively opposing the right wing nutters, you make them think they have a point.

The bonkers Brexit types are quoting 17million unless you say 'not in my name' and distance yourself then they are doing it in your name.

Leavers?

Going brilliantly isn't it Hmm? As many people as the People's Vote March last Saturday. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👉🏻👉🏻

Langrish · 29/03/2019 17:28

He’s urging them to fight again, right now. How bloody irresponsible can one person be?
And he’s just promised to fight the European elections again. Please, everyone, get out and vote in them and get this shameful, hate spewing excuse for a human being out of there.

KennDodd · 29/03/2019 17:30

I can't understand how people can STILL support Brexit given it's racist undertones and racist far right support. How can anybody side with them? Does it not make Leavers rethink at all when they see what they're aliening themselves with.

Langrish · 29/03/2019 17:30

“Gilbert1A

the one guy with the coffin? Yes, that's what he's saying.”

Oh, well it must be true then 🙄

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 17:31

@FemiSorry on twitter saying that he's met lots of Leavers in Parliament Sq today who are disgusted that Yaxley-Lennon et al are there.

Really? Funny, if I'm 'disgusted' by the speakers at a rally you know what I do? I stay at home.

I know he tries to 'bring people together' but ffs, how much latitude are we supposed to give these idiots?

I wonder if surfer jet is there...

BelleSausage · 29/03/2019 17:39

This does know this is dissociate the leave vote from racism.

It also proves that more people who voted leave are generally polically apathetic. The ones who turned up today are the only ones who could be bothered to protest.

TooManyPaws · 29/03/2019 17:43

Just been RTFT since I last saw it last night.

Talking about calling MPs traitors, what summed up the wicked idiocy was that gammon calling the Parliamentary Leader of the SNP a "traitor to England".

Could someone please explain how that works? William Wallace's retort is on a plaque in Westminster Hall.

RedPanda2 · 29/03/2019 17:58

Julia Hartley Brewer???? It's a no from me

ddl1 · 29/03/2019 18:00

If you believe in Brexit, go ahead. I don't. I was at last Saturday's march against Brexit.

NoCauseRebel · 29/03/2019 18:11

You know, for the most part I have stayed out of these discussions because tbh neither side has exactly covered themselves in glory in terms of their reactions and accusations towards those who have not voted as they did.

However, when the pro Brexit demonstration is represented by the eDL and UKIP, when the police are warning of trouble and members are talking about how judgement day is coming (as seen on the news earlier today) it’s not surprising that Brexiteers are being associated with being racist.

Now while I don’t believe that to be the case, and while I refuse to believe that seventeen million Britains are ignorant bigots, and that the people wanting to cause trouble tonight are the same ones getting into punch-ups of a Friday/Saturday night down the local, when that is all that turn out to a demonstration and when said demonstration is being addressed by a racist ex-con and someone whose argument for leaving was based on false promises, people are going to continue to jump to the conclusion that Brexit voters are unintelligent racists.

So the question for me would be, if you genuinely voted to leave for your own non-prejudice reasons (and I believe that many Brexit voters did have their own valid reasons for voting leave, do you really still want to be associated with the label of racist bigot? And if not, why are you not out there straightening the record and attempting to change the perception that you are associated with?
