OK, it's doubtful Brexit is going to happen any time soon but definitely worth coming along and standing up for what we voted for.

Very little coverage in the media - unfortunately no full page spreads in the Standard for us....

It will be going on until early evening so still worth turning up if you can't get the day off work. Lots of great speakers including Julia Hartley Brewer, Claire Fox, Kate Hoey et al.

KKo: Its a brilliant idea to drop out of our mutual agreements and collaborations with the EU over trade, security and research etc because...er...I put my trust in my people and British spirit

Brexitteers: Oh well said, Kko. That's really clever.

Kko: Yeah, I don't know why people say Leavers talk a load of shit.

Rockbird · 29/03/2019 15:52

I'll come if JHB is in the stocks. I've got some old tomatoes to use up...

BIWI · 29/03/2019 15:57

It's not even being reported on Sky's website @woman19.

Kko1986 · 29/03/2019 15:58

Your abuse does not concern me you are not changing my opinion by insulting me and being rude.
I'm one person who voted I am not a peace and love person do not mistake my calm writing as someone who doesn't have a back bone.
I just find all this arguing between ourselves pointless. We are not in charge the MP's are.
In all honesty I don't believe leave will happen I believe the remainers will have their own way and we will stay. Would I be happy with that no but I am not in a position to do anything.

The state broadcaster has wall-to-wall coverage and breathlessly-excited commentary on the 'rally'.

imo the fact that there are two separate rallies going on at the same time says it all. They still don't have a fucking clue what it is they want.

listsandbudgets · 29/03/2019 16:30

live coverage here

Langrish · 29/03/2019 16:31

MaudBaileysGreenTurban

Yep, so much for balance.
Wondered here too if that would be the rally of what the police, according to Reuters, estimate to be 1,000 tired marchers and their supporters or the rent a mob who would pitch up wherever there were windows to be smashed and missiles to be thrown at the police, whatever the cause.

Aerial shots showed a Westminster not massively different from a regular sunny March afternoon, with thousands of probably bemused tourists mingling with a few marchers. Only obvious difference was more people picnic lunching on the green, probably spectating, and wandering along the closed roads. Biggest contingent seemed to be the massive police presence.

listsandbudgets · 29/03/2019 16:36

Watched for a few minutes - it all seems a bit confused - rather like Brexit itself

BercowsSilkTie · 29/03/2019 16:43

Oh dear, that live coverage is rather embarrassing.

Marchinupandownagain · 29/03/2019 16:49

" Leave voters have been insulted non-stop since the result of the referendum."
Yes, and they have been sending death threats to Remain voters right back.
DFOD

Home77 · 29/03/2019 16:50

I'm a bit concerned for the MPs...watching on the BBC news feed...horrible the coffin bearers etc, grim...Sad

BercowsSilkTie · 29/03/2019 16:51

I imagine there will be some arrests if that live coverage is anything to go by. Nothing like the remain March is it?

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 16:55

State broadcaster have just shown Tim Wetherspoon yelling about us all buying English sparkling wine instead of champagne, to a shout of approval from the crowd. Not that many of them strike me as champagne drinkers, tbh...

And then straight back to the presenter who namechecks 'Tommy Robinson the founder of the English Defence League is on stage over there' as if he's a legit politician. FFS.

BercowsSilkTie · 29/03/2019 16:55

I feel quite anxious watching that. The unease is palpable. The remain march was calm and dignified and friendly. This one looks like it's about to kick off. The police presence is much more obvious and hands on too.

Home77 · 29/03/2019 16:57

Ooh, the coffin talks! Shudder...can't link though but it's on the BBC news feed about the vote etc. It;s kind of sick, and had pic of TM on it...and man with sword type thing next to it Confused

woman19 · 29/03/2019 16:57

From this rally:

@BBCDanielS
UKIP's Gerard Batten: "We need now to behead the political class, politically at the ballot box." Interesting choice of words.

Convicted felon Yaxley Lennon/ Robinson has spoken too:

@J_amesp
Robinson just been having a rant about how children are being taught that fascism is bad in schools.

Appears to be having a go at the entire government structure of safeguarding children against extremism since the far-right became the top threat to kids under Prevent.

The 'football lads alliance' have just turned up.

I sincerely hope no mums netters are there.

Home77 · 29/03/2019 16:58

It reads...15:52
"Death of Democracy"

Dominic Casciani
Home Affairs Correspondent
Many of the Brexit protesters in Parliament Square are really angry with Theresa May. One man told me that he was furious with how she had handled the process of leaving the EU - saying that all this chaos at the end of the road could have been avoided by getting people to agree a national plan before triggering Article 50. Another - here with his coffin - believed that the impasse in Parliament was the death of democracy itself.

TheGhostOfBrexit · 29/03/2019 16:59

I predict a riot...

Home77 · 29/03/2019 17:01

I'm so sad I didn't take up the offer of this post and take DC out it in! What a lovely thing for them to join in with! Confused Hope the OP and friends with children are, em, if not 'enjoying it', OK...

Home77 · 29/03/2019 17:02

I read there is also an Anti Racism counter protest going on too, anyone any news of that one?

listsandbudgets · 29/03/2019 17:04

Someone seems to have a placard on the end of a very tall stick that reads "they banned asbestos"

Isn't that a good thing Confused

BercowsSilkTie · 29/03/2019 17:06

listsandbudgets yes it is a good thing. But many leavers are somewhat lacking in facts.

KennDodd · 29/03/2019 17:06

No violence yet (I don't think) hopefully it'll stay that way.

To Leave voters watching the live coverage, does it feel scary to you at all or friendly?

I went on the Remain march, that felt really nice and friendly to me but I wonder if the Remain march looked angry and threatening to you?

I know how we see things is shaped by our opinions in that I think of Tommy Robinson and loads of other racist (to my mind) Leaver supporters as having really unpleasant views. You might not see it like that, you might agree with them or think they're misjudged.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 17:06

Bloody EU, not allowing us to die a slow and painful death from mesothelioma, the utter bastards.

KennDodd · 29/03/2019 17:09

David Cameron has an awful lot to answer for, for starting this.
