OK, it's doubtful Brexit is going to happen any time soon but definitely worth coming along and standing up for what we voted for.

Very little coverage in the media - unfortunately no full page spreads in the Standard for us....

It will be going on until early evening so still worth turning up if you can't get the day off work. Lots of great speakers including Julia Hartley Brewer, Claire Fox, Kate Hoey et al.

pretzels

Someone linked an article about calling politicians traitors in the context of violence from leave supporters. I said I was okay with calling people traitors. I don't think calling someone a traitor is violence or threat of violence. As I've said, I don't share the outrage at this particular word in this type if context. Does this mean I think its okay to call old ladies who shop in the new Aldi near me rather than Tesco "traitors"? No. Does it mean I think all and every use of traitor is justified and acceptable? No, no it doesn't.

I understand what you are saying about politicians but I don't agree. In my view, people being able to express themselves (within reason obvs) is more likely to avoid violence. And I don't see calling a politician a traitor (to a cause in the article linked to) as tantamount to a threat of violence.

Also one final thing.
Are you aware that drugs have been hard to come by for years even before brexit was on the cards?
Epi pens or the equivalent have been hard to get for a long time it's kept quiet to stop panic. Co codamol hard to get. Hrt meds also difficult to get in some places.
I think people are using this as an excuse l. Yes there are going to be tough times. I want to see more home grown.
I would like so much change some will happen some won't.
I'm not going to sit here and attack you for your views as I respect them I just don't share them

BercowsSilkTie · 29/03/2019 12:55

" Hundreds" wow

To invite all Mumsnetters to the Brexit Rally in Parliament Square tomorrow afternoon/evening?
Songsofexperience · 29/03/2019 13:23

I'm sure there are sincere moderate leavers out there. I'd personally steer clear of this particular march because of the association with far right thuggish types. By all means organise a march similar to the pro remain one last week. Before taking part though if I were you I'd want to make sure it's not driven by anger or an extremist agenda.

SunderlandUnicorn · 29/03/2019 13:40

Oh yes, I'll be coming. I love a good fight! I might be a bit late as I'll have to ride my unicorn down, since I don't have the train fare because I'm waiting for my first Universal Credit payment, since the factory laid me off. Never mind, at least I'll have a blue passport, hurrah!!!

I'm hoping to pal up with those wonderful working class guys, Nigel, Boris and Jacob, proper men of the people they are and not at all elitest, no, no, no!

I'm hoping Jacob Rees Mogg will invite to his pile so I can piss on his roses, as a mark of respect to such a fantastic working class hero!

Btw, let me be very clear. I am definitely not a traitor. I am definitely not racist. I am highly educated and I am soooo intelligent that I voted myself out of a job Grin
Beat that!!!

BercowsSilkTie · 29/03/2019 13:42

Elements of the familiar there @SunderlandUnicorn Wink

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 13:49

Farage was saying there would be about 20 Million at today's march. Any sign of them yet?

Pa1oma · 29/03/2019 13:56

Oh my god, did anyone see that Brxiteer man being interviewed outside Parliament on the 1pm BBC News? -

“Right nah. You listen to me .... This is what they all need to do nah. Get Her Majesty over here nah. She’ll go, “Look all you. Just stop this nah.” We need the Queen to say, “I don’t want nobody dying in my streets.” We need Her Majesty to come and lay her laws and the law of the land down nah...”

I swear to god. This is the calibre of them. He was followed by some equally clueless women. I’m sure the journalists give these people airtime just to take the piss.

HazardGhost · 29/03/2019 13:58

Sunderland dont be silly you cant even afford to get your new blue passport if your on UC!

You'll have to sell your unicorn to get one.

HazardGhost · 29/03/2019 14:00

Pa1 sorry you were offended by the lack of queen's English Hmm

Alsohuman · 29/03/2019 14:03

20 million? More than actually voted leave? In his bloody dreams. 🤣

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 29/03/2019 14:05

20 million. He must have sunk a few pints before he spouted that one.

IvanaPee · 29/03/2019 14:19

I’m watching SkyNews.

She just essentially refused to acknowledge the question about the 48% who voted remain!

woman19 · 29/03/2019 14:20

@Anoosh_C
Civil servants being told to leave for the afternoon as far right activists gather round Whitehall, I hear

David Henig @DavidHenigUK
Yes, some of those around Parliament Square right now look none too friendly, heavy police presence as well

It must be absolutely terrifying for ordinary people, tourists, MPs and journalists there today.

Reported on Sky TV New 30 minutes ago that they have twice blocked the roads to prevent MPs getting into Parliament.

Out of interest are any Mumsnetters with them?

The impression this gives of our country is utterly shameful.

clairemcnam · 29/03/2019 14:22

I actually think the OP was irresponsible to post this without any warning that the police are warning of possible violence.

trendingorange · 29/03/2019 14:27

Just seen 3 earnest Gammons dressed up as Morris Dancers in Waterloo station....they might be going op?

Bunnyfuller · 29/03/2019 14:28

I thought there was no need for Leavers to rally because they’d ‘won’*
(The fact that they don’t appear to know exactly ‘what’ they won is immaterial)
*by ‘won’ I mean ‘fell for a lot of flannel from Londoncentric MPs lying to them and bandying meaningless words like ‘sovereignty and borders’ about to prey on fears and lack of personal responsibility)

Langrish · 29/03/2019 14:33

Reuter’s reporting Police estimates are 1,000 at the Leave March.
Separate, far right demonstrators aiming to meet in Whitehall. No estimated figure.

Langrish · 29/03/2019 14:35

IvanaPee

Thankfully the Revoke Petition is timetabled for debate on Monday, will have to be acknowledged then.

IvanaPee · 29/03/2019 14:37

Ah, of course @Langrish thank you!

Langrish · 29/03/2019 14:41

IvanaPee: agree with your incredulity though, the collective sticking of fingers in ears and la-la-la we can’t hear you-ing is astonishing.

StarlaP · 29/03/2019 14:44

I went to the March last Saturday. Yours is looking a bit... meagre on the tv.

woman19 · 29/03/2019 14:45

I actually think the OP was irresponsible to post this without any warning that the police are warning of possible violence

LML violent ring leader James Goddard, regularly part of the group which abuses women MPs and journalists is already banned from London.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/james-goddard-arrest-yellow-vest-journalist-threat-manchester-police-a8777156.html

To be charitable, perhaps the OP didn't know.

Figmentofmyimagination · 29/03/2019 14:47

Julia Hartley Brewer? Now there is a representative of a genuine leave voter - none of your ‘too poor to travel to London blah blah’.

This is an extremely wealthy property owner who has made her money laughing at the likes of you OP. This populism is reminiscent of the 1930s. It’s shameful.

Dottierichardson · 29/03/2019 14:49

Unless you going to act out literally shooting yourselves in the foot or cutting off your noses to spite your face, as my gran would say, then it doesn't sound like a very accurate representation of what leavers are doing to the UK.
