He's put up curved trellis all the way along the wall and stapled tatty strawberry netting to the back (our side) of it so he's not overlooked by the houses perpendicular to us.

But it looks horrible from my side. And the trellis has made it very tall.

I'd saved up for a few years to do my garden up a bit this spring and now this has made it look crap. I can't really afford to put something up on my side to hide his netting.

There's fuck-all I can do, I assume - I asked him (nicely) if I could remove the netting and if the trellis would be obscure enough to stop the neighbours overlooking him. He said no, that it was on his property, and that he wasn't going to remove it and that if I didn't like it I could install something on my side to cover it.

Is there anything I can do???

Yes. As you said in your OP install something on my side to cover it

VenusStarr · 28/03/2019 20:41

Looks better than the prison wall it sits on. Grin

User18947268 · 28/03/2019 20:43

If the wall plus trellis height exceeds 2m then it's actually not allowed.

notangelinajolie · 28/03/2019 20:47

I'm not keen but to be honest I'm not keen on the white painted wall either.

White is not a good garden colour. Buy some climbers to disguise the white and then you won't notice the green trellis.

ghostyslovesheets · 28/03/2019 20:48

erm - I think it is an improvement on patchy breeze blocks to be fair!

HennyPennyHorror · 28/03/2019 20:48

Agree with everyone else. The wall is already ugly....grow something up it or put in your own fence style thing.

Tbh it looks like he's trying to shield himself from your side!

Smileymoon · 28/03/2019 20:49

I think it looks better with it.

Widowodiw · 28/03/2019 20:50

Would he consider changing the colour of the mesh so that it blends in with the fence trellis more?

Mangofandangoo · 28/03/2019 20:50

How about reed or bamboo screening? Relatively cheap and won't damage the wall

EdWinchester · 28/03/2019 20:51

Yes, it looks awful. But slightly less awful than just the blockwork wall.

You can't polish a turd...

Excitedforxmas · 28/03/2019 20:53

Paint the wall a bright colour. I painted mine bright purple- I love it !

SciFiRules · 28/03/2019 20:53

Yes looks pretty awful roughly tacked on. Just wait for a few storms and most of it will be shredded! It's unlikely to last summer /autumn.

Dutchesss · 28/03/2019 20:55

Looks fine, it's actually quite a nice bit of trellis, grow some strawberries and paint the wall.

Fakingitnotmakingit · 28/03/2019 20:56

We have a similar wall, previous owner had clematis and ivy all over it, which was encroaching on public footpath on other side.

Was worried it would take someone's eye out, so we ripped that all out, painted the whole thing black (on our side, public side is harled) and painted the shed next to it a "seaside hut" type colour.

The kids use the wall as a blackboard. Entertaining for toddlers, rain washes pictures away. Win/win for me.

ChicCroissant · 28/03/2019 21:02

This has got to be a reverse!

Pinkbells · 28/03/2019 21:05

You could plant something that would hide it - a row of fast growing trees, or a very quick growing scrambling plant? Either with or without the trellis, it's a very stark, bare look for a garden, think it just needs some greenery.

Notwiththeseknees · 28/03/2019 21:08

Could you paint the wall green so it blends together, then add your own trellis to just above the joint and plant some climbers and roses?

FelixTitling · 28/03/2019 21:15

That netting looks like it might fall off any minute Wink

dayswithaY · 28/03/2019 21:16

I think it's fine it's just the breeze blocks I couldn't live with.

ChandelierSail · 28/03/2019 21:25

😂😂😂

FleurNancy · 28/03/2019 21:28

Trellis: fine
Wall: dreadful

recrudescence · 28/03/2019 21:30

Ivy.

Chloemol · 28/03/2019 21:30

Just grow a clematis or something up the wall

buckeejit · 28/03/2019 21:31

Paint the wall black & attach trellis for clematis. He is right btw

Mabellavender · 28/03/2019 21:32

The betting is vile I’d rip it off and throw it over his sideGrin
