AIBU to wonder what the actual fuck they have done to creme eggs?

I mean, first world problems and all that, but why have they ruined creme eggs? Just had one and the chocolate was rank (DH said this was a big thing a few years ago that Cadbury changed the chocolate to make it cheaper and it doesn't taste like dairy milk any more but this clearly passed me by) and the filling was... kinda chewy. I mean, is nothing sacred? Fucking Brexit fucking up our creme eggs.

I don't believe that creme eggs are now made to the same recipe as they used to be, Cadbury's have claimed publicly that they have used palm oil in their chocolate for many years, but it is only recently that people are complaining about the taste of palm oil in their chocolate.
But cadburys chocolate and creme eggs taste much worse. So I suspect some disingenuous. Perhaps in the past there was a tiny tiny amount of palm oil, and now there is lots of palm oil in these products.
Because the reality is they do taste differently. And they taste pretty awful.

PigletJohn · 29/03/2019 00:42

Nothing tastes as horrible as Hersheys.

Google "Hersheys vomit" and you will find out why.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 29/03/2019 06:17

Montezumas chocolate is gorgeous. Not widely available though.

RedForShort · 29/03/2019 06:36

The recipe for Dairy Milk was always slightly different in Ireland (even when Cadbury's was still a bit of the company they used to be). Many will tell you it's always been better. (And 'original' - I've met a good number of people who think Cadbury was an Irish estabilised company.)

So it's possible about Twirl. If you like, I shall be utterly unselfish and buy one today and eat it. (I'm in ireland.)

CookPassBabtridge · 29/03/2019 07:12

Galaxy used to be so creamy, I can remember the taste so well. It was when it was shaped in little squares. Now it's just oily.

HeavensToTenby · 29/03/2019 10:18

Also... Chocolate Oranges. I know Kraft/Mondelez redesigned the segments to save money but have they reduced them even further? They're almost wafer thin at the narrowest point now! No wonder Tesco are selling them for a quid each, there's about half as much chocolate in them as there used to be. And what there is has a weird lingering aftertaste that isn't chocolate or orange.

clairemcnam · 29/03/2019 10:54

Chocolate oranges now taste rank. I don't care they have made them smaller, just bring back the old taste.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/03/2019 12:02

IMO they were always gross - disgustingly sickly-sweet.
However none of my family would agree.

Heatherjayne1972 · 29/03/2019 12:57

Creme eggs must be rank - no
Ones buying them
I saw them In the bargain basket at b+m today
They used to be delicious

clairemcnam · 29/03/2019 13:16

Yes they are being heavily discounted.

TheRhythmlessMan · 29/03/2019 18:58

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER I would have agreed with you until I tried one dunked in tea so it partially melted then spooning it out and letting the whole thing collapse in my mouth. Probably one of the most sensual experiences of my life.

CiderBrains · 29/03/2019 21:34

Gosh I remember when chocolate oranges were about £4 each over 20 years ago and they were divine!

If they sell them for £1 nowadays god knows what's in them! They are rank now!

Won't they realise that even though they are sold so cheap now, people still won't buy them because they taste horrible!

Some things are supposed to be a luxury treat for a reason ie: they are expensive because they are divine and taste delicious so worth paying the money for, even if it's expensive.

MoaningMinniee · 29/03/2019 23:30

Top Tip. If when you go through the checkout at a chain like WHSmith or Poundland and they ask you if you'd like some chocolate for only a pound or so, it probably means it's shit and no one will buy it full price. Last few times, it's all been corporate Cadburys.

(As opposed to Love Cocoa from Jamie Cadbury. Which is extremely gorgeous although very very expensive).

lilabet2 · 30/03/2019 00:19

I think they're making Cadbury more like American Hersheys (which is disgusting!)

I think there's a sort of savoury taste to the chocolate on a Creme Egg now. Apparently they stopped using Cadbury 'Dairy Milk' for Creme Eggs and started just using Cadbury Chocolate in 2015- they suck!

Wrybread · 30/03/2019 05:55

Yes they did change it, and have since changed back because the stock chocolate is horrible compared to the previous recipe, so they got lots of complaints.

I went off them too. But tried again this year and they're nice again. That's when I said something to my source. Actually it was better when they had the nasty chocolate because then I didn't eat lots of them --unlike this year

I really don't like the creme egg ice cream though. And what have they done to Roses and milk tray? 😭

Bagpuss5 · 30/03/2019 06:12

Cadbury is a name only . Kraft (cheese makers originally) in the US took them over.
After the take over I noticed places like garage forecourt shops full of cadburys at reduced prices. They flooded the market imv, prob pushed out a few other manufacturers and now run the show, there are not many independent chocolate makers left. Green and Blacks were taken over too. Green and Blacks are no longer organic, Cadburys are no longer Fair Trade (but keep the logo on their wrapper in support ??not sure what they mean by that see link)
www.independent.co.uk/voices/cadburys-chocolate-fairtrade-fair-trade-mark-farmers-kraft-american-brand-abandoned-promise-a7445826.html

iwantatattoo · 30/03/2019 12:07

Wrybread- if they have changed back to dairymilk why haven't they advertised that instead of the daft hunt the white cream egg campaign?
I just don't believe it.

clairemcnam · 30/03/2019 12:10

They have not changed it back. It still contains palm oil. It is lies.

LHMB · 30/03/2019 12:51

I really don't like the creme egg ice cream though. And what have they done to Roses and milk tray? 😭

Roses have definitely changed, they're not as nice as they used to be, remember as a kid we had them at Christmas, they were lovely, now they're nowhere near as good. Milk Tray though still tastes the same to me

HariboLecter · 30/03/2019 12:56

OP I know you weren't being serious in your first post, and you've said it about a billion times... but you do know this is nothing to do with Brexit don't youGrin

honeyman · 30/03/2019 13:00

Stopped eating Cadbury's 2 years ago. It is cheap nasty and made with palm oil. Also terry chocolate orange. I remember reading a post here describing it as orange ear wax... most apt description. Never ate it since !

MoistMolly · 30/03/2019 13:31

I was bought a white chocolate version the other day. Tasted foul so went straight into the bin.

xsquared · 30/03/2019 13:38

Meh. Creme eggs have always been gross afaic. Who thought putting icing in chocolate was a good idea?
No great loss there.

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/03/2019 13:38

Lol at the 'top tip'- the £1 chocolate offered at the tills has nothing to do with it being what hasn't sold, it's actually almost the opposite. They're that month/weeks company Key performance indicator- a popular selling line brought from a supplier in a larger volume to be 'driven' in store for a set period of time to a)make money obviously because it works, and people buy these specific lines anyway and b) to assess how well a store is doing at its customer engagement based sales and things like 'adding value to a basket' which are performance indicators and how retailers assess the success of stores and predict future stock levels. The amount of lines sold will then affect the stores results on their performance dashboard and if you're a manager you'll get a bollocking or not. The only exception really is when there's a new product out and the retailer got an initial shipment at a lower price point from the supplier, so they will go with this to see how it sells, and because it's cheap and has higher profit margin.

And yes, creme eggs have been rank for years now, I'm still not over it. Could eat a whole pack back in the day. Cadbury's in general is just crap now.
