AIBU to wonder what the actual fuck they have done to creme eggs?

I mean, first world problems and all that, but why have they ruined creme eggs? Just had one and the chocolate was rank (DH said this was a big thing a few years ago that Cadbury changed the chocolate to make it cheaper and it doesn't taste like dairy milk any more but this clearly passed me by) and the filling was... kinda chewy. I mean, is nothing sacred? Fucking Brexit fucking up our creme eggs.

I was underwhelmed by Love Cocoa and Moser Roth (although they had some chocolate covered almonds at Christmas a few years ago that were to DIE for).
I think my tastebuds were just carefully optimised for Dairy Milk in my youth and now that's gone, I'll always be unsatisfied :(

ClaraTheClown · 28/03/2019 10:47

Someone bought me some Moser Roth chocolate recently and it was frankly horrid.

I blurbs dh some Bouja Bouja truffles for Valentine’s Day though and they were delicious- he shared, bless him.

ClaraTheClown · 28/03/2019 10:47

Blurbs? Bought!

HeavensToTenby · 28/03/2019 11:18

MerryBerryCheesecake YY to weird lumps in Weetabix! I thought I'd cracked a filling/taken a tooth out last week but it was only a very unspecific lump of... something in my Oatibix. Worrying.

IndigoSpritz · 28/03/2019 11:25

I remember my first Creme Egg. It was an Easter present in 1975 when I was five. I choked on it. Maybe it was an omen of things to come.

Bring back Border Creme Eggs while Cadbury is restoring the original, size and recipe.

**Some chocolate has gone to shit now. Milk Tray and Dairy Box and even Thorntons... Smarties and Rolos and kitkats don't taste like they used to either. As has been said, it's the use of palm oil. (And this is also the reason it's kinda slimy!)

I think milk tray and Thornton's are some of the best

StormTreader · 28/03/2019 11:54

Milk Tray was properly nasty the last time I had it, waxy and tasteless. It's firmly on my "do not buy" list.

LHMB · 28/03/2019 12:06

That's surprising. Someone bought me a box of milk tray for my birthday and they were so nice

iwantatattoo · 28/03/2019 12:46

Milk tray, black magic etc have too many truffles in now. Yuk.

Kokeshi123 · 28/03/2019 13:05

Aren't there any Creme Egg alternatives that are similar to what the original Creme Eggs tasted like?

If not, someone should bloody well invent some and sell them.

LHMB · 28/03/2019 13:09

Haven't had black magic for over 16 years, have they changed a lot then?

LHMB · 28/03/2019 13:10

Also love Lindt, my friend prefers galaxy over dairy milk, DP prefers dairy milk

IratePanda · 28/03/2019 15:09

Have you tasted Galaxy recently? They've obliterated Minstrels, and the bars themselves are not much better. I was distraught.

MadSweeney · 28/03/2019 15:40

@Wrybread interesting you say that. I had one a few years ago and it was horrid. Stopped eating them, but then a few weeks ago was given one. Grudgingly I opened it but was surprised that it actually tasted ok.

Of course this could be all in my head, but it did taste more like it used to.

iwantatattoo · 28/03/2019 17:17

LHMB - I think that Black Magic etc have changed for the worse. All the old chocolates that were a real treat in the 80's/90's are now cheap and taste horrible. That includes Thornton's Continental which used to be such a luxury, but are now about half the price that they were 20 years ago.
I'd rather pay more for better quality - a box of chocolates should be a treat!

ShowMeTheKittens · 28/03/2019 17:39

They never look properly wrapped, with there little naked chocolatey shells peeking out from badly squashed tin foil....
When they first came out , they were ok. Now they are utterly revolting. They just taste like condensed milk to me, and I hate condensed milk.
I used to like Toffee Mallow eggs, now you're cookin'!
Also; where are Freddy Frogs?

ShowMeTheKittens · 28/03/2019 17:41

PS nooo to Thornton's! It's bitter, fatty and full of Sorbitol!

LHMB · 28/03/2019 21:02

Oh, I love Thornton's

BaconAndAvocado · 28/03/2019 21:18

Moser Roth chocolate is gorgeous and so are Creme eggs, especially dipped in tea Sad

CiderBrains · 28/03/2019 21:21

I don't buy any Cadbury's chocolate now as it is horrible. I used to absolutely love it Sad Now it just tastes waxy and oily and disgusting. It used to be so creamy and delicious!

ArabellaDoreenFig · 28/03/2019 21:32

Sainsbury’s own brand chocolate bars don’t have palm oil in.

Also I never knew that Love Chocolate was created by a Cadbury and will have to investigate this further!

GingerRogers84 · 28/03/2019 21:55

Picture my rage Christmas before last at 8 months pregnant when I had the misfortune to try and eat a fancy tin of Cadbury's biscuits I'd been looking forward to! Angry

TheRhythmlessMan · 28/03/2019 22:01

The mini ones are more tolerable. At least the proportion of chocolate to gooeyness is palatable.

Hollyhobbi · 28/03/2019 23:33

Yes. And I'm in Ireland and we get the same horrible creme eggs now. Even my kids hate them and they'll eat any old rubbish food!

SparklyLeprechaun · 28/03/2019 23:38

I actually love the fact they've changed the recipe. I used to eat waaay too many, now I'm looking forward to not putting any weight on around Easter.

Since people have mentioned Moser Roth - I don't get the love, I think it's pretty yuck.
